I had 3 of 49 chicks with black spots this summer. One of them was my “albino“ chick who went to the breakfast flock. I apparently ate the other two. 😮😋 My albino chick is 19 weeks old and other than that black spot which has since gone away, her only other color is a light peach.
That is true and also reports say it could be a lack of mineral in the hens diet. I do know that a lot of American Bresse breeder experience this though and if it can be caused by inbreeding it could happen to any breed for that reason as well.
We do sell and ship day old American Bresse chicks, right now we are sold out but will be putting up more availability soon. If you email me at RH.Hatchery@gmail.com I will email you when more chicks are available. If you want to check out our web store therecreationalhomestead.com
This not true. The black leakage-simply means that the chick is heterozygous for dominant white. It is super SIMPLE to breed out even using those chicks as starter stock. When they are homozygous for dominant white you get an all white bird. If a heterozygous bird is bred to a homozygous bird or even another heterozygous bird you will get a percentage of homozygous chicks to move forward with. Its not complicated at all. Of coure the faster route is to only use all Homozygous birds but i think its a disservice to act like the birds with black leakage-are useless. They are not and can be used to start your flock. Breeding that bird to a homozygous bird wull give your a higher percentage of leakage free chicks to move forward with, then Breeding to birds with leakage but you absolutely can breed two birds with leakage and get a smaller percentage of birds with no leakage (homozygous). Having a basic understanding of how these genes work in a real life application is a really good starting point in my humble opinion. Start with what you have and constantly make decisions to improve your flock. Only keep offspring that are as good or better then their parents. Over time you will enhance the quality of your flock. It takes time, knowledge, experience, and dedication. Good luck!

I have invested in a good one now, sound is the hardest part of editing.
