You need to use the regulator that comes with your camping stove. The hose or stiff line with the knob like I showed. In the comments people were referring to an additional regulator like the circular silver ones used with propane barbeques 👍
It will turn on and run until it burns all the gas in the lines. But if you turn off knob at tank it should turn off after a minute or so. Can test by running stove and leave on while turning off tank. Let it run until goes out. If doesn't ever go out, valve on tank could be bad and not closing all the way

So it's the hose that is the contaminater?🤔 Ok
@@JeremyMN Yes I believe its the hose degrading over time. No it shouldn't act as a regulator. But I have heard a lot of people add those filters to keep them running longer.
What about a filter? I was reading that bulk propane isn't as refined/filtered as the 1lb and some hoses have oils from manufacturing that can clog up the buddy heaters.
Yes you can add an in line propane filter. I would suggest if you had a Buddy heater to do that. But I haven't had any issues with this set up yet. Will update if any problems arise
@@JonnyDIY Thanks man. Apparently it's only an issue with the heaters.
@@rodneylittle3530 Get the Mr buddy hose that doesnt require a fuel filter. a little bit more but you also add 5 more ft of hose. PART# F273704
i converted my propane coleman stove to a twenty pound tank and i notice a considerable pressure loss. the one pound tank had more flame than the twenty pound... any ideas why... the tank was full
You didn't put a hose with another regulator in line on? That or sometimes certain hoses just don't work with the connections. Like they don't fully engage and open so maybe not letting it all in. May want to try a different hose. That would be my guess
the only regulator was the one from the stove@@JonnyDIY
@@carmencristantiello5176 ok then most likely the adapter hose isnt fully engaging the connection on your regulated hose coming off stove. Seems to be quite common problem with certain stove/hose combinations after reading some reviews
Hi. I have bought 2 different adapters, 1 from your video, and another one but neither works, what am I missing?
Make sure screwed in all the way. Sometimes it doesn't engage unless screwed all way. And some adapters I have heard don't work with some appliances
@@JonnyDIY We got it! Thanks so much.
@@lisarodriguez5461 Awesome, glad you guys got it. You're welcome, happy I could help 👍
Different regions use different bottles with different fittings.
.
2003 in our ExpeditionVehicle, we did South America twenty-four months twenty-four thousand miles.
Had a Dickens of a time getting propane.
.
These days, we carry several full spare five-gallon twenty-pounder propane bottles.
Ohh mann that sounds like a hassle. Carrying extra seems smart or maybe some sort of adapter? If they even make them
The one pound tanks are refillable. It is not illegal to refill them, but it is illegal to transport them.
Ohh ok I was under the impression it was illegal to do either, but I guess state to state will be different
So if you can’t transport them how do you get from the hardware store to your house?
@@nole8923 it's illegal to transport refilled 1lb 1 time use propane bottles
So they are refillable but they’re one time use?
I don't think the cops gives a shit about you transporting 1 pound propane .. and yea refill them it's easy with an adapter .
My regulator stars leaking after 2-3 times of usage. I had switched from 1lb to 20lb with hose and then again to 1lb...now regulator leaks😏
That's strange it shouldn't matter. The pressure should be around the same between 2 tank sizes.
Can I hook large 100 lbs tank and use safely?
Yes, any tank size will work 👍 just be sure to check for leaks as I did. And also shut off valve on tank after use as I did 👍
So lucky I stumbled upon Hank Hill's TH-cam channel. Thanks Hank.

Yes😂 always put a propane next to the grill

He lost me at those tanks are not refillable 😂
@@roughridersmobilecarwash8462 you can refill at your own risk, yes. But the tanks and valves aren't rated for reuse
Strange, I see that you connected with a regulator in-line, but all the comments say you don't need to use a regulator??? I am confused
You need to use the regulator that comes with your camping stove. The hose or stiff line with the knob like I showed. In the comments people were referring to an additional regulator like the circular silver ones used with propane barbeques 👍
My stove still turns on even when my tank is off. Anyone know why this is happening?
It will turn on and run until it burns all the gas in the lines. But if you turn off knob at tank it should turn off after a minute or so. Can test by running stove and leave on while turning off tank. Let it run until goes out. If doesn't ever go out, valve on tank could be bad and not closing all the way
Must be the valve on the tank because it’s not turning off even after 5 mins. Thank you.

In our ExpeditionVehicle, we use a Wave 3 catalytic heater, fed by a dedicated five-gallon twenty-pounder propane bottle.

I need that hose conector, where can I find it ?
I put a link to one in description, can order one off Amazon or can sometimes find locally places like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware 👍
So it wouldn’t be too much pressure on the stove so it blows?
No it's fine, the stoves have their own built in regulator on the hose that has the gas control knob 👍
@lan,
Yes, it wouldn't.
Those little tanks are actually refillable. You can fill them off of that 20 pound tank yourself
Yes you're correct, only problem is the tanks and valves on those tanks aren't rated for repeated use.
I have a 5 pound tank
That will work just the same too 👍
Checks for leaks with soapy water. Proceeds to start the grill against a 20lb propane tank. 🤣🤣
Still a good vid.
lol thanks yeah I should have mentioned not to use propane next to stove, I just had it up for ease of making the video. I forget things sometimes in the midst of filming 🤦♂

Theres a link in the video description to one of the conversion hoses. May also be able to source locally depending.
Do you know of any refillable tanks for car camping?
You can refill a 1lb tank with a 20lb there is a small connector that does it.
I have this exact model
Awesome, glad to help 👍
Those little 1lb Propane Tanks ARE refillable... go get the adapter from Amazon and refill them from a 20lb Propane Tank.
Yes you can refill, but the bottles and valves aren't rated for repeated use and refills. And not legal either. There used to be a company who made legal 1lb bottles, but I haven't seen them last few years

So I know some of those adapters have the regulator and some don't. Is it better to have the hose with the regulator? Thanks for the video!
If you're hooking to a stove or heater like mine I showed they already have a regulator so it's not necessary. Only when hooking to appliances that dont have a regulator it's needed. Having 2 would end up just restricting gas flow 👍
@@JonnyDIY Okay great thanks for the quick response! I'm just going to hook it to a Coleman heater that usually takes those small green cans. So in that case you think I should be okay with just the hose? Thanks again!
@@ReWildTucson yes just the hose will be fine. Some have mentioned they recommend adding a filter in line on the hose to the heater. They mentioned sometimes the hose degrades and pieces come off inside and can clog things. Just something to know about 👍

No the camp stoves have built in regulators, the pressure is the same regardless of tank size with propane 👍
