I can’t believe how the quality of the people running our country has sunk to such a low level that they use the very notion of rejoining the EU as an insult. I genuinely to my own shame and regret voted for Brexit. All we did was vote to make ourselves worse off. Why is the very notion of rejoining so laughable to these absolute clowns?! 🤡

Don’t beat yourself up too much. If David Cameron hadn’t told the civil service not to plan for a leave vote because remain were going to win the referendum we’re going to win the referendum the day we wouldn’t be in such a mess. It appears we shouldn’t have trusted that our politicians and leaders actually had the intelligence and the competence to manage the task of leaving the EU.
And the EU isn’t doing too well either. Immigration is causing people to move right because the politicians are not listening. And Germany is in recession partly because it turns out most of Merkel migrants are not working and have no intention of working. …..I could go on. Ursula’s comment |joke the other day about the uk rejoining was because they need our money but we ain’t got any!
But don’t worry they’ll only cook the books to ensure we are able to join like they always do.

Ava sums up the mental health issues perfectly. There are a large amount of people who are suicidal that need the help and support required however there is a larger number of people who are suffering from mental health issues in that grey area where there not doing great but aren’t suicidal and if these areas aren’t addressed then mental health is going to become a bigger crisis than it already is

We have to pay the NHS surcharge while applying for the visa. It's computed per year of stay. Mind, we pay for it before knowing if our visa is approved. Then refunded if visa is declined. I'm on a student visa and working in the healthcare sector. Since this news came about, there's been distress within the facitilities. We love our jobs caring for people. We had to prove our skills more than our local counterparts( who are as good). People have to remember we're not hands taking away from the work, but hands providing additional care for those who need it in our service.
People, and those comfortable in their parliamentary seats, don't realise how much they contribute and sacrifice. Ex. Intl student fee is double to triple with no bursary. We have to consider exchange rates. Each move we make has to consider if there are additional intl fees or if we need additional documents we pay the government for.
Not all of us moved here for a better life but because we just wanted a change.
The way legal migrants are being used as political pawns for the next elections is, to say the least, so dehumanising.
Politics exists everywhere on this scale. The lack of understanding of the people on the ground level, appaling how they don't even pretend to empathise anymore.

On the point about MH and talk to a mate. I'm in a place were I'm doing 'okay' but my mental health is terrible and I need lots of help. The problem with talk to a mate is my mental illness makes that so difficult and traumatic to even think about opening up to close friends. I've had therapy and counselling during my life and it's the only thing that helped because I was talking to a qualified stranger who I knew didn't have a personal stake in my mental health which helps so much in my being able to actually open up and talk about stuff that scares me.

One of the issues I don't understand being overlooked by the £38700 figure is that that is substantially below a nurse's wage, (excluding doing a lot of overtime, enhancements, etc. which are not guaranteed and therefore would not be included). There are particular issues besides the astonishing suicide rate that have disproportionately or almost solely affected men and boys for quite some time now and are becoming more acute - education attainment gap, homelessness and likelihood of dying at work for example.
I don't think "it's covered by someone else" is a particularly good response, nor "it's a sticking plaster solution". How do those criticisms of the position not also apply to the equivalent minister for women? Frankly this dismissiveness is a big problem we have on the left, it opens young men up to dissaffection and feeling like they're alienated which takes them down the manosphere/'alpha male' influencers rabbit hole because those people and groups loudly state "I'm concerned by the issues affecting you". Sometimes even just a gesture like a minister for men can have an important impact.

    • @huginnmuninn2155
      @huginnmuninn2155 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Wonder what would happen if someone tried to get rid of the minister for women?

    • @whatsahellhell
      @whatsahellhell 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I don't think it's "dismissive". The Tories have tried to use men's mental health as a complete point scoring exercise, when it's obvious they couldn't give a toss about anyones mental health. No one's denying the stats. The stats are shocking, but the only solution I've seen anyone offer for mens mental health is "it's okay to talk guys." I genuinely think the actual issues are being avoided to make it another culture wars issue that we can all argue about. It's not like the "minister for men" is suddenly gonna decrease these horrific figures, I think that needs genuine systematic change in the mental health sector, and the workplace. No one in power actually wants that though, they just wanna virtue signal that they care so much about men (when they obviously don't, especially if you're working class). If people care about mens mental health, fund the criminally underfunded mental health system. But they won't. Because they don't really care.

    Regarding the NHS "Honesty Box".
Everyone has an NHS number, assigned at birth (or at first visit to GP) which shows if they are a UK citizen or not (among other things). this allows GPs and the NHS and everyone else to share data about you without having to have a copy of all records each.
The NHS already has "Paying Patients" teams in each trust who are in charge of extracting money from overseas patients who may owe it. they are woefully underfunded as normally it costs more to get the money than you would be getting.
no one goes untreated in an emergency. it's always an after-the-fact process and only tends to impact people (mostly from America for some reason) who have elective surgery in the UK

Immigration lawyer here. Health surcharge ..
It’s paid in advance, so you pay a set amount depending on the duration of your visa. At current rates it’s £624 per year, so a 2.5 year visa will mean you pay £1,560 as a mandatory fee along with the £1,048 application fee. So you pay that full surcharge even if you have end up having no medical treatment for the duration of your 2.5 year visa. So in reality your application fee for a 2.5 year visa (potentially just to stay here with your child or partner) is £2,608.
And that’s BEFORE the fees are due to go up.
I find the health surcharge a particularly cruel part of our immigration system that isn’t often talked about and I’m glad you mentioned it, even briefly…. but, y’know, get it right, yeah?

Re policing the surcharge - I moved to the UK in 2005 and the very first time I went to A&E five years ago they did ask me for evidence that I was entitled to not pay for NHS services because my NI number is from a range reserved for foreigners. It was a bit weird because my GP never raised this as an issue.
They didn't refuse to treat me but told me to return with evidence as soon as possible to avoid getting a bill in the mail.

I think we need a minister of mental health and a minister for communities not a minister for men. Because that’s where mental health issues starts because if our communities are ruined then unemployment is high, productivity is low, education levels are low, children don’t have hobbies to play and learn life lessons, families can’t afford opportunities to live life, health problems are high and talking to a mate about can’t do much other than ‘I’m sorry mate, but go to the doc’. We’re in a pandemic of mental health and communities losing their soul and we need to act now

From someone who has been through the family court system, we are second-class parents in the eyes of the law, school, social services etc. There are many inequalities specific to men, that the speaker couldn't begin to discuss in a 30-second question.
What harm would having a minister for men do?
Otherwise, enjoying your content as always.

36:23 The NHS is NOT good at dealing with people with extreme suicidal thoughts - I speak as someone who lost a close friend to suicide where NHS failure was a big contributing factor. I don't believe that this was in any way unusual either.

The truth is, sunak is s secret arsenal fan.
He pays rawanda, then rawanda pays arsenal as a sponsor.
So this is really all arsenal's fault

NZ's public health is a joke, frankly. It seems to have a good reputation among those who've never had to use it.

To be fair Starmer can’t promise to scrap something that’s not actually a legal and legitimate thing at this point.
You said Stephen Flynn did well because his question was “ funny “ ? I mean yes it was funny. But it’s not a comedy contest. And why didn’t you talk about how lairy it was today ?

Sunak is right, no child will grow up in poverty in this country; cause he changed the criteria for child poverty. Integrity much not.

The men's health campaign seems to be a worrying trend. Like Ava said in the past there should not be a distinction in mental health between gender. The only reason woman's mental health has needed a distinction is because they were historically disregarded, ignored or institutionalized with conditions like autism and bipolar. This "men's health" campaign seems to let the Tories control the narrative of public health and I don't like the direction they are taking it.
