- Copper is a much better heat conductor than wood. Here's a simple experiment to illustrate how much of a difference there is between the two materials.

the answer is that copper is a good conductor therefore it is able to conduct the heat away however wood being an insulator retains(keeps) the heat

The answear is that you wound the paper too tightly around that rod to the point that paper acts as a solid piece!
paper is a solid wether it is tight or not

Heat applied to the paper is being taken by the copper rod.
