Nope, I have never seen an axle being built next to the toilet 😂😂, but this series is by far one of the best DIY videos I have ever watched... Simply amazing.

The best part of all of this is that it is a true restoration at home, using what you got. It's the resourcefullness and dedication that is the content. I couldn't care less for fancy shooting and what not.

Great work again young lady! A little tip for bearing races, hot spots and brake caliper pistons is to put them in the freezer for three or four hours. They will shrink a tiny amount and aid installation. With the brake caliper, after cleaning up (on an old unit being refurbed) just pop it into your oven for half an hour prior to rebuilding and at no more than 60 or so degrees. This further aids inserting brake pistons because the heat exoands the caliper and the freezing cold shrunk the piston so a nice easy fit. I have done a video covering this on one of my Discovery's.
On anthoer note of messing with Land Rover parts in a house, I once started a 2/14 Series 3 diesel engine in my mums basement. The noise was incredible, it bobbled around like a whacker plate and smoked out the basement, dining room and kitchen. Mother was less than impressed, more so when she saw my mate and laughing at the sight because the engine was an unkown quantity prior to that. As it happen, I have another 2/14 diesel engine coming in a week or so and it's been stood for about 25years so may do a "Will it Start" video in shippon at the back of where I live now.

Thank you! Yeah I’ve used the heating and cooling trick a few times. I used it on the input flange for this axle when I changed the pinion oil seal but sadly I forgot to record this. Good advice though never the less!

Hello from Detroit Sophie. Makes perfect sense to take a rear axle apart in the bathroom. Easier to wash the 90w gear lube out of your hair with Comet cleanser that way. Ask me how I know.

Thoroughly enjoyed the long awaited part four. You are so confident in what you do, have you had any mechanical training. Your presentation of the work you are doing is so good and easily understood. What I have noticed is the thorough way you go about your jobs and it shows in the finish. I am sure Mike at Britannic Restorations is impressed with your restoration, I know I am. More please Sophie and I look forward to seeing the completion of the 110.

Just so you know, bolt tensile ratings have nothing to do with their colour; the passivating or anodising can be done to most colours, though silver and yellow are most common. Sherardising is usually charcoal grey, which is what you see on a lot of the Gen Parts fixings.
Old bearing races are good drifting tools. If you cut a slit in one side, then it works very well for drifting in new races while being easy to subsequently remove.

lt is a pleasure watching your work young lass,at your age l was struggling changing oil and tyres. These days the only problem working on 110 Isuzu county is my age factor. The worse job l had was taking the diff carrier out to put a Elocker in with the diff still bolted to the landy.

Firstly not everyone has an RSJ in their hall, when I was single I rebuilt my Jaguars rear end and brakes in my lounge while watching the TV with a nice roaring fire :). must agree Timkin are the best.If possible when using the old race to drive in a seal use the thicker side on the seal and tap on the thinner side, less chance of it skewing when it goes in.When torquing nuts like on the shaft and you are pulling the wrench up try going the other way so you can use the weight of your body to push down on the wrench it makes it easier, not trying to tell you what to do just years of working on cars you pick up the odd trick. by the way your video's are great for anyone doing the same job.

This lady is incredible. The sand paper on a stick / rod with a slit in the end works well for cleaning tubes, bores & structural frames
How come whenever I even suggest bringing a bicycle into their hallway every (potential) girlfriend thinks I am weird, and I stay single? But you are building an axle in a bathroom and your hallway........And extremely competently, more to the point. Keep Landys on the road.

Rebuilding an axle in the bathroom, storing a MIG in the hall and the floor covered in sockets and tools, I feel that there is a strong chance we’ll see you using the dishwasher to clean engine parts soon (it woks pretty well actually)
The engine is tore apart on the kitchen table Transmission is tore apart on the living room coffee table axle is in the bathroom hopefully she didn't have to pack it up a set of stairs 😳

Great video Sophie, just noticed that the spring from the oil seal was facing away from diff which I was always lead to believe that the spring should always face towards the oil and with your bearing driver take out the 13mm bolt in the end and put back in when you have chosen the correct cup size, I'm not criticizing just trying to help, keep up the excellent work.

If I saw all this work going on in my place with car parts & bathroom parts everywhere, I wouldn't bat an eyelid. My mum & dad were like that with their motorbikes back in the day.
If I were a couple of years younger, I'd be chasing after you. Using half built bathrooms & hallways as your work area is similar over at my place. At least the weather here is warmer.
Again, another brilliant video which I know puts most professionals to shame with the level of work & dedication you put into it. By the time it's all done, your Deffy will be a gem.

You can use a torque wrench like you did as a ratchet with no consequences if the bolt isn't giving any resistance. I was always told it's continuous breaching of the set torque level rather than stopping after the click that screws them up.
Memories of servicing the fully floating hubs on the Austin Champ. It had 4 wheel independent suspension with torque bars (highly sophisticated) and a mixture of "rubber" and leather oil seals.

Awesome video. I'm loving this series. Thanks for sharing. I'm learning a lot from your journey. One tip on using the race tool. There's a bolt at the end of the driver that you remove then put the race driving tool onto the end of the shaft, then tighten the bolt down to hold it in place. I hope that makes sense. Great work work Sophie! You could make a career of this if you wanted to.

Love the attention to detail on the rebuild of the axle even down the padded axle stands to protect the paintwork. Have used the torque wrench as a ratchet in the past. Copper grease works wonders on cars. When I buy a new car one of the first jobs I do is put copper grease on all the wheel nuts or bolts whichever is fitted.

Great work as always, I did most of my axle, brake and suspension work in winter outside huddled under a gazebo, I did take my hubs inside to do the bearings to make sure they stayed nice and clean.
Built a workshop now and its made a huge difference.
Looking forward to more updates.

I thought youtube suggested me some clickbait with girl woking on a car video, but this actually looks like the real deal. On the rust topic I spray all body cavities with used engine oil. It''s a real mess, but in my experience no modern wax in the long run does a better job.

Good work as usual, an unfinished bathroom is as good a dry workspace as any! The internal corrosion is usually caused by condensation, axles will have a breather to help vent the air space, the air will contain moisture and that will condense on the cold steel. I am not familiar with this period of LandRover and their apparent lack of 'anti-rattle' brake pad springs/clips usually held by the pad pin's, the small coil springs will help somewhat - I hope they are well protected from corrosion though.
