Decided to come back and watch this after the third game's trailer came out today. It's so fun to see how much this franchise has grown over the years.
Coming back here after Splatoon 3's final splatfest, this trailer is still such a masterpiece! Launching a brand new series that has endured for a decade with no signs of slowing down, all thanks to these funny little kids that are squids, WE SALUTE YOU SPLATOON!
I’ve never played the original, the only game I have played is the second one. I remember the final splatfest vaguely, it’s crazy to think that was about 4-5 years ago? I feel like every splatoon game is shorter lives than the last. I suppose all 3 had the same 2 year cycle but Splatoon 3’s just felt so short, maybe it feels like that because I didn’t play it.
I remember watching this back when the trailer first came out, I begged my dad to get me the game when it released and he decided to because Id been doing well in school. I remember playing for the first time, my first ever match was on camp triggerfish and I had so much fun just painting random things aimlessly. I love splatoon with all my heart
I got a Wii U for Christmas in 2014 because I wanted the newer console to play new games on, I mainly got it for Skylanders Trap Team and Disney Infinity 2.0 releasing that year. About 1 to 2 weeks before Splatoon came out, I saw the commercials/advertisements on TV, and I thought the game looked interesting. My mom even saw one of the commercials and said "you and your brother might like that game." So I went on TH-cam and saw some of the trailers for the game, including this one, and I typically don't buy into hype for new IPs, but I was able to see that Splatoon had the potential to be something really special. There was a testfire before launch so that gave me the opportunity to try out the game, and I was having a great time and I was officially on the Splatoon hype train. My mom bought the game for me from Walmart during launch week, I started to main the Krak-On Splat Roller, and the rest is history as they say. I got a Switch in October 2017, making it the fastest I ever bought a new console, and it's also the first console I spent my own money on, and I bought Splatoon 2 as part of my first lineup of games for the console. Then, on to Splatoon 3, I was skeptical about it at first tbh. I felt like they should've waited until the next console to come out before they make Splatoon 3, but as time progressed, I warmed up to the idea of Splatoon 3 happening sooner than later. Once they showed the Salmon Run footage, I was officially on the hype train, and Splatoon 3 is one of the only games I ever pre-ordered. The game came out at a perfect time, where I could use a new game to play, and it also came out right before my 20th birthday, so it's like Splatoon 3 was the finale of my transition from teenage-hood to adult-hood. I'm here right now because I'm making a playlist of nostalgic stuff from my childhood. I'll probably be back to watch this again whenever the Final Splatfest for Splatoon 3 happens, to relive the journey of what I am now considering to be the greatest game trilogy of all time.
I don’t remember much from when I started the second game. But I do clearly remember playing with a Japanese dude named snowman on the conveyer belt whatever map. That dude is still on my friends list for whatever reason. Haven’t been able to sneak into their games because of time zones but it’s nice seeing a little Afro man hologram.

Now that Splatoon 3 is coming, this makes me even more nostalgic. We even have the Inkzooka back now! I remember the days when Miiverse was still a thing and I can even faintly remember years ago of when I was just getting into my first Splatoon match. I can't even believe that 2015 was 6 years ago.

I remember before I got the Wii U how fascinated I was with this game. This (and Wind Waker HD) were the main reasons of why I wanted a Wii U so badly. And now that it's come this far, it's amazing to see what Splatoon was like back in the day and to see the hype that was built around it.
A game nobody saw coming. A game nobody asked for. The kind of game that you never thought NIntendo would be capable of making. But in 2018 it still thrives, and proved itself a worthy adition to Nintendo's ever expanding roster of IPs.
This honestly looks like one of the best games coming out of E3 so far. Colorful, frantic, multiplayer action... to me, this is all the things that make gaming fun, wrapped up into one package that also has squids. This is a day 1 buy for me.
Y'know I wasn't feeling it back when this was first announced, but 7 years later and we're all losing our minds at the announcement of the third one. Holy Jesus, how has it been that long?

I must admit, when they showed this game at E3 2014, I wasn't really interested. I was more hyped for Mario Kart 8. And then I got the game in July 2015. I have played it a lot ever since.
Well we dunno yet. People are saying nintendo has sent pics as teasers. Like an Omen to splatoon3. If splatoon3 is a game, hopefully the squid sisters come back and do the best thing ever

Haven’t played Splatoon 1, but I remember my first match, I was up until dawn, because I loved how the game was so simple yet so complex. Splatoon is probably the best game I’ve played before.

I might be wrong here, but I remember the best reactions for this announcement at the time being among the lines of "OK, that's interesting." A lot of people didn't think much of this, I even remember some thinking it looked like an eShop game. I got pretty excited after they showed more of it, but even then, I didn't think it would go far. It was a Wii U game with a pretty out there concept, odds were stacked against it being successful. And here we are now, it's one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. You love to see it.
Same actually, I remember watching this E3 with some friends and we all were ''Hey, it looks fun and the concept is a pretty original spin on a third person shooter'', but nothing more than that. We were not super hyped or anything else. Cue a year later and I bought a Wii U just for Splatoon after trying their copy out.
I'm probably one of the few people who, from the first trailer, felt this was going to be big. Same thing when the first trailer for Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse came out - most people liked it but didn't think much of it, and there I was losing my mind having this gut feeling that it would change the industry (and it did). I don't like being the one annoying "I told you so" person... but I'd be lying if I didn't say my intuition about these things is rarely wrong.
@@doomrider7 It didn't, though ? The first Splatoon is so campy has so much charm, most people look back at it fondly. It heavily reminds me of the Gamecube era.
One more to note, Walleye Warehouse had climbable crates, it would had been really easy to ambush chargers then. It was good thing it WAS 10% complete and Nintendo didn't pull a Ubisoft.
As of me writing this comment, Splatoon 1’s servers will be shutting down in just a few days. I cannot begin to describe how much this game series has impacted my life. I love this game with all my heart and it’s sad to see it go. I’ve met countless of people and made many friends throughout this series. From the moment I saw this trailer when I was 10 years old I knew it was something special. Although my time with the first game was short, it has cemented my love for the series as a whole. I got a Switch primarily for Splatoon 2. I bought Smash Ultimate just because Inkling was going to be a character. I even played the whole 12 hours of the Splatoon 3 Splatfest premiere and got Splatoon 3 the second it was released in my state. I’m trying really hard not to cry while typing this and it may be strange to some but this game is a big part of my life. Goodbye Splatoon 1, you’ll be gone but never forgotten ❤.

It's been 8, almost 9 years since splatoon 1 came out. Hearing its servers shutting down tonight is nothing short of depressing. I remember getting this game during 2015 and my wii u and other games with it. And i sadly can't play one last turf war. But if there's one thing i can do, it's sharing these memories with many splatoon 1 fans like me and come together one last time. To fans, it's going to be a long and hard goodbye. But we are greatful for everything we've gotten. So let us cherish these final hours together shall we? And most importantly, thank you Shintaro Sato for blessing us with one of the greatest video games of all time. You truly are the freshest man ever

You know what's the best part of having a new Nintendo IP? , imagining all of the crazy combos that the characters in it could have in a future Smash Bros. Just imagine one of those Inklings using those paint powers and turning into a squid. So awesome.
I played this game when I was 8. Now I’m 16 turning 17 in this year and this breaks my heart that seeing this game already shutdown. This game was my childhood, I got this game when it was my birthday on 2015 and played it with my sister cuz she was obsessed with this game. I remember playing the Gobal Testfire when it was out. Now this game is already gone, R.I.P Splatoon1. Thank you for everything….!!!! :((((

***** The thing with this game, is that there is heavy focus on needing to use the gamepad for normal play. Maybe Nintendo is finally keeping to their promise of being able to use 2 gamepads per console, so to include local co-op for games such as this..? Also, I'm not saying that local co-op isn't likely, just keeping in mind what the developers have said about the game.
To think that back at one point, people were doubting this game and how successful it would be... Yet only a short while ago we saw the Smash teaser, with the inklings in a recreated version of this teaser's introduction and imminent joining of the Smash roster.
I never doubted this game. I actually have a debate with a person who thought bloodborne would out sell this. Needless to say I ended winning that debate.

truth be told, i had absolutely NO idea this game existed until my mom bought it for me right after my fifth birthday. i know i was young but i was so hooked to this game, and to think that we're already on our third game is insane. i love splatoon so much :)
(Longer comment ahead) Sadly I never owned a Wii U. And even when I got myself a Switch I also never played Splatoon 2. I did however get Splatoon 3 when that game released. And with the Grand Fest happening this weekend I keep thinking about this trailer. While I didn't play this game myself I did watch LPs of the story mode and general online matches. Same with Splatoon 2. And I really liked it. But what I remember the most was when I visited my older sister back in 2014. She was all happy and giddy and told me about this new Nintendo game and how cool it was. She then dragged me into her room to her computer and showed me this exact trailer. And It just stuck with me. Reminding me of simpler times back when I was a kid, waiting for this game to come out where you were a squid. It was sad to hear that the plug was being pulled on this game. And I'm sure many who had a copy went back to maybe play a match or two again. This franchise may not be an old one, but it has claimed a spot as one of Nintendo's iconic IPs and also in many of our hearts. And now I'm finally catching up with Splatoon 3. Not as a kid but as an adult. I joined Team Past in the Grand Fest. Because of reasons like these. Like this game. It reminds me of the better things. My childhood.
Man, I haven't played any Splatoon game in years. That being said, the memories of this game make the lag and glitches worth it. The splatfests, the memes like Splat Tim, 'i wish squids were real', etc. This game is one of, If not the best game for the Wii U. You made 9-10 year old me very happy. RIP 2015-2024.
This is why I'm not worried about the final game. Anyone worrying about the visuals have to realize the game is not even coming out until Summer. Things are going to be polished.

3 years ago, Splatoon 3 was announced. I remember watching along to ZackScott since 2015, saving every penny I could scrap up for a used Wii-U and game disk. I eventually got it, and played religiously, not a care in the world. I bought plushies, amiibos, all things I still have now. To this day, playing the third game, I still love Splatoon. I even bought a Wii-U again, just to experience online gameplay one last time before it sits down next month, April 2024. Splatoon is one of the lists of things I can say shaped my childhood. I’ll miss Splatoon 1 gameplay and it’s chaotic nature.

Haven’t played Splatoon 1, but I remember my first match, I was up until dawn, because I loved how the game was so simple yet so complex. Splatoon is probably the best game I’ve played before.

I might be wrong here, but I remember the best reactions for this announcement at the time being among the lines of "OK, that's interesting." A lot of people didn't think much of this, I even remember some thinking it looked like an eShop game. I got pretty excited after they showed more of it, but even then, I didn't think it would go far. It was a Wii U game with a pretty out there concept, odds were stacked against it being successful. And here we are now, it's one of Nintendo's biggest franchises. You love to see it.
Same actually, I remember watching this E3 with some friends and we all were ''Hey, it looks fun and the concept is a pretty original spin on a third person shooter'', but nothing more than that. We were not super hyped or anything else. Cue a year later and I bought a Wii U just for Splatoon after trying their copy out.
Aged Like Milk brought me here for that very reason. And yeah, I remember all of those posts on here and other places.
I think it was when the story mode was revealed combined with the testfire that hype began to pick up
I'm probably one of the few people who, from the first trailer, felt this was going to be big. Same thing when the first trailer for Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse came out - most people liked it but didn't think much of it, and there I was losing my mind having this gut feeling that it would change the industry (and it did).
I don't like being the one annoying "I told you so" person... but I'd be lying if I didn't say my intuition about these things is rarely wrong.

As of me writing this comment, Splatoon 1’s servers will be shutting down in just a few days. I cannot begin to describe how much this game series has impacted my life. I love this game with all my heart and it’s sad to see it go. I’ve met countless of people and made many friends throughout this series. From the moment I saw this trailer when I was 10 years old I knew it was something special. Although my time with the first game was short, it has cemented my love for the series as a whole. I got a Switch primarily for Splatoon 2. I bought Smash Ultimate just because Inkling was going to be a character. I even played the whole 12 hours of the Splatoon 3 Splatfest premiere and got Splatoon 3 the second it was released in my state. I’m trying really hard not to cry while typing this and it may be strange to some but this game is a big part of my life. Goodbye Splatoon 1, you’ll be gone but never forgotten ❤.

It's been 8, almost 9 years since splatoon 1 came out. Hearing its servers shutting down tonight is nothing short of depressing. I remember getting this game during 2015 and my wii u and other games with it. And i sadly can't play one last turf war. But if there's one thing i can do, it's sharing these memories with many splatoon 1 fans like me and come together one last time. To fans, it's going to be a long and hard goodbye. But we are greatful for everything we've gotten. So let us cherish these final hours together shall we? And most importantly, thank you Shintaro Sato for blessing us with one of the greatest video games of all time. You truly are the freshest man ever

The thing with this game, is that there is heavy focus on needing to use the gamepad for normal play. Maybe Nintendo is finally keeping to their promise of being able to use 2 gamepads per console, so to include local co-op for games such as this..?
Also, I'm not saying that local co-op isn't likely, just keeping in mind what the developers have said about the game.
I don't even play shooter games, but this one looks really cool and fun. Really creative mechanics.
To think that back at one point, people were doubting this game and how successful it would be...
Yet only a short while ago we saw the Smash teaser, with the inklings in a recreated version of this teaser's introduction and imminent joining of the Smash roster.

reading this on the last day of splatoon 1 right now, literally brought tears to my eyes. thank you for everything splatoon you were great, we'll miss you.
truth be told, i had absolutely NO idea this game existed until my mom bought it for me right after my fifth birthday. i know i was young but i was so hooked to this game, and to think that we're already on our third game is insane. i love splatoon so much :)

Sadly I never owned a Wii U. And even when I got myself a Switch I also never played Splatoon 2.
I did however get Splatoon 3 when that game released. And with the Grand Fest happening this weekend I keep thinking about this trailer.
While I didn't play this game myself I did watch LPs of the story mode and general online matches. Same with Splatoon 2. And I really liked it.
But what I remember the most was when I visited my older sister back in 2014. She was all happy and giddy and told me about this new Nintendo game and how cool it was. She then dragged me into her room to her computer and showed me this exact trailer.
And It just stuck with me. Reminding me of simpler times back when I was a kid, waiting for this game to come out where you were a squid.
It was sad to hear that the plug was being pulled on this game. And I'm sure many who had a copy went back to maybe play a match or two again.
This franchise may not be an old one, but it has claimed a spot as one of Nintendo's iconic IPs and also in many of our hearts.
And now I'm finally catching up with Splatoon 3.
Not as a kid but as an adult.
I joined Team Past in the Grand Fest. Because of reasons like these. Like this game. It reminds me of the better things.

Looking back at splatoon 1, this game was honestly a massive gamble, and the fact that we got 2 more games (so far) is insane.
Man, I haven't played any Splatoon game in years.
That being said, the memories of this game make the lag and glitches worth it. The splatfests, the memes like Splat Tim, 'i wish squids were real', etc. This game is one of, If not the best game for the Wii U.

3 years ago, Splatoon 3 was announced.
I remember watching along to ZackScott since 2015, saving every penny I could scrap up for a used Wii-U and game disk. I eventually got it, and played religiously, not a care in the world. I bought plushies, amiibos, all things I still have now.
To this day, playing the third game, I still love Splatoon. I even bought a Wii-U again, just to experience online gameplay one last time before it sits down next month, April 2024.
Splatoon is one of the lists of things I can say shaped my childhood. I’ll miss Splatoon 1 gameplay and it’s chaotic nature.
