The original sounds like he’s trying to avoid his anger/sadness over losing his girl and he’s trying to force himself to move on, and this one sounds like he understands and accepts that pain and is slowly working through it (and maybe he’s having a hard time doing so). This different take on the song is really beautiful :)

He want's more, he knows he deserves more, he is going to be the one to get more out of life.
It's still a super sad song but on the original, the way they preformed it, after the last lines they do a magnificent build to the line, "I never." I have less of an opinion on what that means, than the fact the triumphant ending they give you is almost like getting over her/it. It doesn't leave you with a sad taste in your mouth is what I think I'm getting at, it resolves itself.

Mr. Brightside is such a sad song because it isn't pop-song-sad... it's desperate. It's that cold and hollow but all the while frenetic and rageful feeling of past love moving on. Anyone who's had that happen knows that it isn't a slow heartbeat experience, and so it shouldn't be a slow tempo song. It feels like the world is spinning around you, not slowing down. Mr. Brightside absolutely NAILS that sensation. And the crescendo!!! It's just the right amount of happy. It's the feeling the following week (month) when you're looking back on the relationship and finally getting a taste of solace: you're not happy yet, but that cold feeling is warmer. Each movement of the song has intention and purpose. Irrepressibly vibrant. Sad, sure, but uplifting as fuuuuuck.
Loved your cover man - so well executed - just needed to rant about pop-song "sad" and its cookie-cutter formula of down tempo + sad chords + 1 neo-soul R&B chord at the end to make sure the audience too isn't too down. You get what it says on the tin: a sad song. Beautifully tragic sad songs are different in that they don't bring you down, they guide you through... there's an aftertaste. Pop-song-sad coddles you; real-sad drops you off the edge of a goddamn mountain, swoops down, grabs you by the chest and lifts you up higher than from where you began.

You have a really good voice but it seems like you might be limiting yourself to a lot of songs that are pretty slow and chill, and theres nothing wrong with that, but as a suggestion maybe you could do something different.
