I tear up everytime! why why why? How can a simple flight simulation do this? There is something so honest and sincere about the pairing of the scenes and the music in the "California" that is perfect. The music of the new "Soarin' World" just seems forced. What "World" does do better is the transitions between scenes.

The jets in the desert and the flight over San Diego Naval base gave me chills. I really miss Soarin' Over California. Soarin' World doesn't inspire the same emotion that I got from the original.
Me too! This was one of my favourite DLR experiences of all time. Even watching it on this video makes me feel... free... and just giddy with sheer happiness... it's pure magic
Interesting fact: The Disneyland segment was filmed during the Private Cast Member Christmas party in early December 2000 with the employees and their families only. I know, I was there. I remember seeing the IMAX camera helicopter flying over us during the filming.
I was there too!!! I remember my dad explaining what the helicopter was going to be doing in the car. Whenever I would ride this I’d be like “I’m down there somewhere!”
Can confirm from an ex coworker who used to work at Disney in Main Street at that time. She said They instructed everyone to not look up at the chopper but everyone did anyways 😂
In this time of sheltered-in-place with the Happiest Place on Earth closed for two weeks and now "until further notice", I just enjoyed a virtual Disney experience. I'm now inspired to take my family to a virtual Disneyland today! Thanks Phillip!
What really gets me is that I experienced uncomplicated joy on this ride. I experienced true joy, no worries, no “but if”s, nothing. I am looking an my hands right now counting experiences like this and there are five fingers up, and three of them are this ride.
I hope they never take this ride down. It is amazing and allows visitors with health limitations that can't do fast rides, an opportunity to experience something that is truly incredible. Not to mention how amazing the music is.
Soarin’ remains the only canned (non-kive) attraction in all the Disney parks that consistently gets spontaneous applause. Disney needs to build more attractions like this and less cheap Pixar LED and laser shows.
Born and raised in Las Vegas. My mom side of the family is all over California and I've been fortunate to visit half of these places still like to go to Yosemite and Lake Tahoe!! This is my favorite ride at California Adventures it always tears me up.

Apparently, when this was introduced as "Soarin" at EPCOT, some guests assumed these clips were from different parts of the US: New England, the Great Plains, the Rockies, the Southwest, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, etc. Despite it's challenges, the Golden State is still pretty amazing.
The CGI in the new version just kills it for me, with fake elephants, kites etc...Soarin' Over California had some fake things, but it wasn't as obvious. Why can't they show both the old and the new? Maybe have even more experiences, like Star Tours? Bring back SoC.
Maybe have different terminals be different experiences? Then again, Soarin Round the World will always have a walk on, and over CA would be an hour...
Personally, I think Disney should have Over California brought back. Exclusively for the Disney World and Disneyland versions. They should have one of the theaters play Around the World while the other one plays Over California. And I think that since the one at Epcot has 3 theaters, they should add a third version called Soarin’ Across America and as the name suggests, it goes on a tour of the United States from West to East.
The Across America version would use a mix of CGI and live action like the previous 2. And also, it would use the entire soundtrack of Over California, parts of Around the World’s soundtrack, and its own sections. It would also be considerably longer (6-8 minutes compared to 4-5 minutes for the other 2).
Literally the only reason I can slightly say I enjoy over the world more is because I’m from Utah. But that’s the only part I like more. I can’t believe how lackluster a view of the world is... RIP California
Disney should do that with the source video. Sure, it wouldn't look quite as good on a VR headset as it does on a 4K IMAX screen, but it would still be nice. Edit: Actually, they should do this with all of their not-currently-running movie-style attractions. CircleVision VR would be great.
Disney is sorely missing out by not jumping on the VR platform. Plenty of peoples have Oculus Rifts and HTC Vive's, and we're desperately looking for that sort of theme park magic on our headsets.
The main draw of VR is that it's 3D, you have one screen for each eye so you can get a 3D feel. They captured this footage with a 180-degree fisheye lens, the question is if when they were filming they had the foresight to use two cameras side-by-side to capture the visuals in 3D.
I wish the videos can alternate at Epcot and California. Soarin Over California and Soarin Around The World like in Star Tours so you never know where to fly next
Soarin' Around the World... what a bummer. The CGI transitions, the new locations, the cheesy Indiana Jones-style map preshow, the absence of load music which was replaced by howling wind... and worst of all, the way the music was edited. They tried to make it sound cultural and fit in with the different locations, but the new music is just flat and boring... please, did you really have to mess with this ride? Bring back the original!
The only I'd say I sorta like is the transitions. I admit, I always thought it was a bit weird that the scenes just flipped with no sort of cohesiveness. While the CGI ones like the bird and plane I feel don't fit well, the fades used in the scenes on the ocean and the Taj Mahal really do work well.
Add-on to my comment: Frankly, can we even call this a ride? This is more of a experience! The sounds, the smells, the sights! It just all comes together to make the Beautiful experience called Soarin over California, dear Disney bring back Soarin over California.

They could've made it a little longer and captured places like Santa Barbara, Death Valley, Kings Canyon, Lost Coast, and far NorCal, but due to time constraints, this is what they ended up with, and it's still damn good.
Disney needs to bring back the Circlevision/Circarama movies (to Disneyland) -- originally based in Tomorrowland. They can be much more immersive than the Soarin' films -- although Disney needs to upgrade the technology to video -- without the join lines -- from the old projected versions.

Made me cry! lol THe jets were the Thunderbirds from nearby Nellis AFB. And i used to stay at the Famcamp on Coronado Naval Base.
