  • Going under in Chinatown can actually be a good thing - if you know where; the legendary Sam Wo is a good start.

Just found out about Yan about 20 minutes ago. I go looking through his videos and see this - I randomly click on it. The very first scene, my jaw drops as I know exactly where he is. I've had many late nights at New Woey Loy Goey, getting warmed up from a hot cup of tea and soup when escaping the cold wind. I had no idea he lives in SF! I hope to one day run into him at a restaurant and buy his next meal. 谢谢叔叔!

Hey Henry, so it took you 40 years to find out about me, finally. Better late than never. Woey loy Goey was one of my old hangouts. Maybe we had met in one of those cold nights when you came in for a coup of hot tea or soup. Look for me next time.

Martin, I’m so sorry that you are not familiar with the old Woey Loy Guey. They had a roast pork with gravy over rice and a side of cabbage. We old timers miss it so much. Yummy. Thank you.

I love Szechuan dishes! Luckily I live near 2 Chinatowns, Manhattan and Flushing, NY. I believe the Manhattan one is more Cantonese and Flushing is Mandarin. I could be wrong but I can’t tell the difference. I would love to cook my own Szechuan dishes. 😋😋

What irritates me is the owner clearly has been in the USA making a living outside communist China for decades he decided to leave instead of help China which we respect but why on earth he cannot speak 1 single word of english. Mr yan on the other hand is a national treasure.

If you’re in a chinese restaurant English ain’t valid. Besides who the hell says just because you come to America you have to speak English. Dumb as hell.

He did say "right now" lmao. Not completely illiterate in English. Maybe he just prefers speaking in his mother tongue when he's in the company of people from his same hometown?
