If anything, they should've started showing the NBA on NBC back in the mid 80s. Think of what they would've shown if it wasn't on CBS----the last Bird vs Magic NBA finals, the dawn of the Bad Boys, Bird's steal, the hayday of the Bulls-Pistons rivalry, the shot and the beginnings of several great careers (Stockton, Miller, Ewing, Malone etc).
Bulls won 6, Lakers won 3, My Rockets won 2, and the Spurs Was able to get one in 99! But, there were so many teams that were VERY close to picking some of these. Suns, Knicks, Pacers, Jazz, Sonics, Blazers. A lot of the bulls NBA finals series were down to just one Clutch Play by the Bulls! 🔥 Paxson in 93, Jordan in 98 Etc! For the rockets, Just imagine if Olajuwon DIDN’T block John Starks 3 in Game 6, the Knicks might have taken one of the rockets titles away, SO GLAD that block happened! 🔥 Olajuwon my favorite Center to play!

Jordan did come back in '95 after all-star break, and they lost to the Magic...the same team the Rockets swept in the finals that same year. Now, we all know that wasn't the same Jordan, but the Rockets were a very well-rounded team just like the Bulls. It would come down to who would have the bigger impact: Hakeem or Jordan, and I think the Rockets win one of those series. Hakeem was the best center during that small stretch, which included Robinson, Shaquille, Ewing, etc. and Jordan's Bulls never had a dominant center. Jordan puts Hakeem on his all-time starting 5 for what it's worth. Would have been one of the best series of all time

Yes man! I feel you on this one. This was my childhood during the 90’s. It was like a magical feeling, especially during the playoffs on NBC. Everything from the opening theme music, to the excellent play-by-play announcing, to the electric atmosphere of watching the games at home. What an experience it was! You’re right, Philly it just hasn’t been the same since.
All this happened in 2002 where I felt like my childhood was ruined. The NBA on NBC came to an end. Disney's One Saturday Morning came to an end on ABC. Then Fox Kids came to an end as well.
Chicago Bulls brought me to the NBA on NBC back in 1991 when they first won the NBA championship in the 1st repeat with Michael Jordan and his teammates and again in the 2nd 3-peat but it was an honor to be part of the Last Dance when I was a little boy!!!!

Even the WNBA on NBC was worth watching. ESPN/ABC tries to much to manufacture drama instead of building on it naturally like NBC did. It seemed like NBC and CBS before that really embraced the league and it's brand potential.
My issue with ABC (Disney)/ESPN is, it's all watered down. The timing couldn't have been worse. The only time I ever watched the NBA (after '02) was a year later. It sure wasn't the same. Wide World Of Sports should have still be on. Thank God for the Spanish/foreign channels (I love their real, raw, old-school style/approach).
Picture that the NBA on NBC had the two of the greatest play-by-play guys in Mike Breen and of course, Marv Albert. From Michael's 6 championships to Los Angeles' three-peat. Man, NBC's coverage was simply not just ordinary.
