Here's something to consider: When Azulon was Fire Lord, Iroh = Zuko and Ozai = Azula, except, there was no one to save these boys so they just went with it. Iroh became a general and did..."much Fire Nation work" let's call it. Who knows what Ozai was like through his childhood. We can't sympathize with the man because we never see it and we never truly know....the dynamic between Iroh and Ozai is strangely one that's never seen. At one time, Ozai might have been the sadistic young Fire Prince with some potential for redemption. It just never came.
I was thinking about that recently, that Iroh is Zuko without an Uncle Iroh to help him avoid certain mistakes. So Iroh had to wait until life punched him in the gut to begin to learn the lessons that he then taught to Zuko. There was probably always the essence of a good man in him, like there was with Zuko, buried under 100 years of Fire Nation brainwashing. He was probably nice to the palace servants, a good general to the soldiers under his command, a good father, etc. But he was complacent and complicit until his son died and he started to become the man we know today. We saw a brief glimpse of Fire lord Azulon and frankly I wasn't impressed with his empathy levels. It's easy to see where Ozai got it from even in that tiny snippet of interaction we got. It is interesting to think about Iroh and Ozai growing up with THAT for a father, Did they ever care for each other? I would imagine Iroh would have cared for Ozai at one point, I wonder if Ozai ever cared for Iroh (as much as he is capable of caring for anything) perhaps in that weird way that Azula sometimes shows vague affection for Zuko seemingly with few or no strings attached.

Zuko and Sokka are tied for my favorites (I always love characters with the most growth). Followed very closely by Toph and Katara and Iroh. Then Aang, Suki, and Azula.
I've finally caught up, and just in time! I wanna say y'all have had the absolute best understanding of this show and its characters all throughout, from Zuko as early as the first few episodes, to Azula the moment her depth was put on subtle display. It's been a wonderful ride seeing your two experience the show I've loved for so long, and I think you'll both enjoy Korra when you get there! Thanks for the top notch content so far.
11:48 YES i also consider this her Zuko trip since its the only 1 on 1 time they had and earlier she technically went off and saw Iroh so these encounters equal 1 Zuko trip
Also, she had her own character development already, *with Katara.* On The Runaway. That was her trip. Now, this moment with Zuko is *Zuko's* character trip, with her.
I have much to say about the dutch dubs. Being South African, the dutch dubs have somehow become part of my childood memories of A:tla. I look back with fondness and humour.
The voice actor who does Zuko in the play is the brother of the voice actor for the real Zuko. Dante Basco does Zuko and in the play "Zuko" is done by Derek Basco.
This has been my favorite Avatar reaction series ever. Your connections with the characters run so deep and I can’t wait for you to see how this epic journey wraps up. Thank you so much for sharing
I'm not trying to start any controversy *(I SWEAR TO GOD I AM REALLY NOT),* but as a Kataang shipper, I really want to thank you for not giving Aang flak for him kissing Katara after her saying she was confused in this episode, despite preferring Zutara over Kataang. You wouldn't believe how many anti-Kataangers give him flak for it. They even go as far as to consider what he did as some act of sexual harassment or assault when really Aang was just as confused as Katara was and immediately regretted kissing her after she went back inside the theatre.
Yeah I’m glad they didn’t bag on Aang for that either. I’m an avid Zutara shipper and Aang is my favorite character, and though I think we can all agree that him kissing Katara right then wasn’t one of his better decisions, it also wasn’t as harmful as some fans make it out to be. Would it have been better if he didn’t kiss her right then? Yes, but they’re both kids, and when Katara backed away Aang didn’t push her. He realized his mistake, as that is what it was, and was in no way “harassment” or “assault” of any kind.
Yeah like it wasn't a great choice but he's a dumb 12 year old lol. And he immediately realized how dumb it was too, which is important. If he kept acting like that then sure people would have a point, but that was basically just him trying to repeat what happened last time, failing to read the room, and immediately realizing he was a dumbass and learning a lesson.
I think for Aang and Zuko especially it hurts. Zuko describes it more, but they essentially have opposite problems. Zuko is reminded of everything he actually did, mistakes he made in his own life...he's less concerned with others' perception of him because he ALREADY came to terms with being a "traitor" or needing to save his nation by being an outcast. This isn't that new of a problem for Aang, but it's a major concern for him - how the world sees him. He went through a lot of trouble accepting his role as the Avatar...and now he really wants to save the world and give people hope. When he sees himself being ridiculed, being portrayed as an incompetent enemy...it hurts. He's already worried about the battle yet to come, and the play just depicts him as inept....in combination with all the Katara tension...it's just too much for him to stomach. I think it would be for any of us.
We forget he is 13 years old and just watched himself get killed and people cheered for it. Thats down right horrifying. I think when he saw himself get taken down by Ozai that was when he really understood what Katara meant by it wasn’t the right time. It wasn’t him that was the problem but the fact that they could die. And like you said the people he was essentially trying to save viewing him as a clown didnt help much either.
I think what Aang meant in that moment wasn’t that he was so mad that he was going to go into the Avatar state but rather that ever since Azula struck him down he HASN’T been able to go back into it....... I dunno I think we’re all confused? Was that not what was happening? Anywho. I’m really glad you both found this show so that you know how it is to be appreciated and actually have something worthwhile to watch. No pain. Just good vibes.
The only crime that ATLA did was to give us only a few episodes where Zuko is in Team Avatar. I really hope that Avatar Studios can expand on the Gaang more *Fingers Crossed
@@youraveragepasser-by7367 I did read the comics but most of it was more towards what happened after Zuko become firelord and issues that are happening in the fire nation after Ozai was done.
The only issue I have with Aang and Katara is that Aang still seems like a boy to me because of his design and also his voice actor sounds like his voice hasn't cracked yet. And Katara seems like a young woman. Other than that, its been properly developed and Im happy with it.
It's the same for me! I love their relationship, and I LOVE their bond... but I can't help but feel like Aang's still too young! Even when the age difference between him and Katara is the same as, say, Katara and Zuko. Aang is SO mature and so strong, but even now, as he is, he still feels like a kid. Only in moments like the dance in The Headband or when he's calmer and wizer, he seems actually older to me.
I felt the same about the show. I had no idea how much I'd love it until I watched it after it being suggested by a friend. The whole avatar universe is awesome 😊
It brings me joy that you guys have grown attached to Azula she’s legitimately one of my favorites top 3 wit Zuko and Iroh (I might be biased 😳) but man it’s been a fun ride time to buckle in for the finale

aang doesn't want to kill the fire lord because he thinks he will be just as bad as him🤨. he doesn't want to kill the fire lord because its the main part of his culture and he doesn't want to lost that part of himself because he is the last airbender. if he wasn't the last airbender then he really think about it
aang doesn't want to kill because of who he is, not because of who isn't there. being the last airbender gives you another rational reason to justify how aang feels, but it's not a cause of that feeling. feelings aren't rational.
@@sirmoonslosthismind but the writers say it's because he is the last airbender. It says it in the "art of the animated series" book. Thats why yangchen kills and aang's doesn't. Those 2 opposing dualitys of being the last airbender and avatar is what makes him a great character. It's even in the title "avatar" "the last airbender"
No need to be snarky about it, they go into his reasons more in the next 2 episodes. It's perfectly fine to think his motivations for not wanting to kill the firelord are that at this point in the show
@@serenenature432 yeah basically Aang is still trying to honor the ways of his people by not killing. Its kinda like how Iroh didnt want to fight and kill Ozai because of how that would be perceived in history. Aang defeating the fire lord without killing him makes a lasting impact on people's perception in history
Something else that tends to get overlooked is the fact that Aang was born in an era of peace (or a tense peace, at worst), instead of being born during the war like everyone else. Everyone else just accepts the "you gotta kill the Fire Lord to end the war" mentality, but to Aang the very idea of taking ANY life is just alien to him. Aang's entire mindset is 100 years out of date.

These lovely ladies are truly not ready for the post finale blues. I couldn’t enjoy any tv shows or movies for a week or two after finishing. Nothing could compete with this beautiful show.
Fun fact: That was the original character design for Toph.. a still blind muscular, jock-type that would be a foil to Sokka's nerdiness, but a head writer pushed for the character to be this jolly, sarcastic girl instead. That heavily impacted the story in the whole series and it turned out beautifully with Toph becoming a badass favorite for many.
I think it's important to note, the Zuko-Iroh relationship goes even deeper than Iroh righting Zuko's path and moral compass. When his son died Iroh was a broken man, his birthright was taken from him and he shirked his responsibilities as General walking away from a siege, if he hadn't returned to be there for Zuko who knows what sort of man he might have become. In short, both were exactly what the other needed exactly when they needed it most.
@@Qin_Lee It SERIOUSLY is! Any Royal Family centered episode, like The Storm, Zuko Alone or The Avatar and the Fire Lord feels like a really good Game of Thrones episode!

3:25 azula is a tragic and great character but that doesn't excuse her actions. If anything bad happens to her she deserves it. She literally killed the avatar in front of Katara.
While I understand and kind of agree with you, I always find it interesting that no one ever has this type of energy for Zuko. And I'm talking about before he left to join them. Azula may have delivered the final blow however Zuko contributed to that situation and welcomed it happening. He's done some horrible things however he always gets sympathy from the very beginning. Honestly I feel like Milena and Lola understand Azula's character better than every other reactor I've seen on here(and that's a lot of people)
@@byronstone386 100% agree at the beginning almost everyone despised Zuko for his behavior, attitude towards uncle, and just plain ignorance. Of course his redemption arc was great but let’s not pretend Azula shouldn’t deserve the same after all she’s also a product of bad parenting and war. Not saying what she’s done wasn’t bad but clearly her drive is to win slightest affection from her father by being a war machine and absence of loving mother did not teach/help her with healthy personal relations ie friends. Iroh’s unrelenting love for Zuko really helped a lot. Like A LOT. They’re all still adolescents
i think it's just how she views killing in general. her whole life her father and Fire Lord has said, "You're great, we're great, everyone's our enemy and if you kill in the name of the Fire Nation, it's ok." She's still a child with absurd fire powers.....there was never any frame of reference that murder is bad. I don't really think that conversation ever occurred.
@@XxdextriousxX Yeah. I don't think enough people remember that Azula is literally like... fourteen. (She only ever really looks as young as she is one scene, when she's taunting Zuko in season 3 and has her hair down and her makeup off as she gets ready to sleep, which was a nice touch.) At this point most of her worldview and personality is just a lens for what her father wants.

I would pay good money to see that story.
Your reaction videos of ATLA is my favorite reaction videos here on TH-cam. Thank you for your videos, especially with this series.
It's fun to watch that you feel the joy, the sadness, the excitement that we felt when we watched this series for the first time. You girls brought back all of those for me.
Zuko: d-did jet just die?
Sokka: you know it was really unclear
everytime you two watch an avatar episode.........you can't watch it again the first time........welcome to our life!
Best episode in the series imo, and one of the best filler episodes of any show I've ever seen. A filler episode so good it trashes another filler episode, The Great Divide
still better than The Last Airbender movie
They abridged three seasons of content in less than half an hour... AND THEY DID IT BETTER.
5:50 - I can't remember where I read this, but a fan once theorized that one of Ty Lee's identical six sisters is the one playing Aang and I LOVE that theory so much.
I can't believe we are getting 4 episodes in a raw the next week! I swear, these girls are going to tear bend)

8:30 WAIT. ''You're getting bored?" During the Drill?? I think we found a little undiscovered joke in here XD
It only took like 20 reactions and 10 years to find that joke lmao
God i love this episode, what an amazing way for the writers to connect to the audience
S3 Zuko: "MY SCAR IS NOT ON THE WRONG SIDE!"
S2 Zuko: 👀
💥_👁
Also Zuko: HONOUR!!!
They're faces @8:58 are priceless.
"That wasn't a good play" "But the effects were decent"
*The Last Airbender Movie in a nutshell*
There is NO movie in Ba Sing Se.
I heard they're thinking about a remake with Jackie Chan as uncle Iroh...I'd have to give that a chance.
I really don't think the effects were decent.
@@SpiffierShindigs For real, it was trash LOL
effects were awful
i am not ready yet so exited to watch your reaction to the 4 part finally.
this episode is one of my favorite recap episodes ever made. it recaps 3 books in 1 episode
Zuko and Sokka are tied for my favorites (I always love characters with the most growth). Followed very closely by Toph and Katara and Iroh. Then Aang, Suki, and Azula.
Aww they missed the ‘and a surprisingly knowledgeable merchant of cabbage’ line.
Like watching an SNL recap of their adventures with a dark ending.
Y'alls love for Sokka and Zuko gives me life. They are my favorite characters under Iroh
Fun fact: in the Dutch voice over of the play, most, if not all the characters who portrayed team Avatar in the play, were voiced by the same actors
I have much to say about the dutch dubs.
Being South African, the dutch dubs have somehow become part of my childood memories of A:tla.
I look back with fondness and humour.
@@cg6176 Yeah there's some voices that I acrually prefer in Dutch, like Roku and Iroh
They got the Information for the play from the Cabbage merchant and pirates etc. They said it at the beginning of the episode :)
@@erinrosado1617 Thank you for acknowledging this as well! I really appreciate that!
@@erinrosado1617 Thank you! 😭
Sexual harassment? seriously? The boy is 12 years old!
The news in recent days has almost sounded too good to be true, but I'm choosing to keep hope in my heart that they do right by this great series.
Read the comics! They spend tons of time together
@@wandanemer2630 i agree, He just still seems like a kid to me. But I do agree w/ the pairing, i just want them to wait 2-3 yrs first.
I always love seeing people’s reactions to the finale of this show. Great ready for a real treat.
I felt the same about the show. I had no idea how much I'd love it until I watched it after it being suggested by a friend. The whole avatar universe is awesome 😊
My girls, you are in for a ride the next 4 episodes. Take your time, take it all in and enjoy.
It brings me joy that you guys have grown attached to Azula she’s legitimately one of my favorites top 3 wit Zuko and Iroh (I might be biased 😳) but man it’s been a fun ride time to buckle in for the finale
Zuko= best character
Azula=best villain
Iroh=best wisdom of this show
I'm not ready for them to watch the finale yet! It's been so fun watching them react and I really don't want it to end yet.
Korra is going to heal that feeling
@@Qin_Lee You're right of course, I just hope they like Lin, she's my favorite. I feel like Bolin will be the new Zuko for them.
@@zeldahylia8549 I think Mako is more like Zuko, brooding and everything. Bolin is his polar opposite I feel,
I'm sure I'm gonna cry when they cry in the next few episodes.
12:35 (Aang kiss Katara)
Yue: 🌝
when i got to the blue spirit episode, i realised this was a top tier action show, when i got to zuko alone, i realised it was a great character study, when i got to tales of ba sing se, i realised it could be heart breaking, when i got to this episode i realised it was a laugh out loud comedy
So you haven't seen the cactus juice episode then?
aang doesn't want to kill the fire lord because he thinks he will be just as bad as him🤨. he doesn't want to kill the fire lord because its the main part of his culture and he doesn't want to lost that part of himself because he is the last airbender. if he wasn't the last airbender then he really think about it
aang doesn't want to kill because of who he is, not because of who isn't there. being the last airbender gives you another rational reason to justify how aang feels, but it's not a cause of that feeling. feelings aren't rational.
I have loved following along these reactions for the last few months and hearing your thoughts. I've followed since t100 days and I really enjoy how openminded you are to each character you see on screen. I can't wait to see your reactions to the finale. All that pay-off!! I was feeling so sad since I just failed my driving test. Thank you for uploading, I just know I'm gonna laugh at this reaction 😂
Also i like Zuko and Toph conversation. It's pretty underated and i think it was little life changing trip with Zuko for Toph in that episode
Dxcept the one who received the help this time was Zuko himself
@@evetea9780 Agreed. Toph and Zuko actually have good chemistry. Toph pretty smart despite her age.
Toph doesn't get a trip with Zuko, because she got a life changing trip straight from the source. And then she ends up changing Zuko's future by taking a trip to talk to him to accept him before anyone else did. Only to get her feet burned.
I love these two and they are siblings.
@@cg6176 Well they still great friends forever

Milena's face @ 8:55 is everything
This episode is just genius, the characters reacting to ATLA lol, most recaps are boring af xD
My top 5 is: The Storm, The Blue Spirit, Zuko Alone, The Guru And The Avatar and the Firelord, but this episode and Tales of Ba Sing Se have their special place c:
There's going to be so much tear bending coming up and I cant wait
They are not ready for this finale
Im not ready and I've watched it 15 times or more
These lovely ladies are truly not ready for the post finale blues.
I couldn’t enjoy any tv shows or movies for a week or two after finishing. Nothing could compete with this beautiful show.
are you kidding? that is insultingly low
we gotta bump up those numbers...those are rookie numbers
:)
lol same
Fun fact: That was the original character design for Toph.. a still blind muscular, jock-type that would be a foil to Sokka's nerdiness, but a head writer pushed for the character to be this jolly, sarcastic girl instead.
Indeed i have to admit that Royal family of fire nation is something on game of thrones level
Awww.
@@Qin_Lee It SERIOUSLY is!
Any Royal Family centered episode, like The Storm, Zuko Alone or The Avatar and the Fire Lord feels like a really good Game of Thrones episode!

8:55-9:05
Nice face Milena 🤣
the calm before the big storm
11:59 HAHAHA! You Know Who Else Uses The Cabbage Patch? The Cabbage Patch Kids! 😂
Best recap episode in all of television. They took one of the most hated tropes in TV fandom and made it total meta genius. This is undeniably a top 10 episode in the show and speaking from a purely technical/objective standpoint probably its in the top 3.
Sokka is a comic relief character done right. He is on the receiving end of many jokes, but he himself is not a joke.
I think you are my favorite reactors, So wholesome and fun, thank you for sharing these moments with us all
0:32 her cup color changed 😮😮😮😮
Magic...!! :)
The channel has been growing so fast recently I’m proud of you guys👏👏
bruh there are going to be so many tears in the finale
@@XxdextriousxX Thank you for mentioning the depth of azulas psychology!!
i think it's just how she views killing in general. her whole life her father and Fire Lord has said, "You're great, we're great, everyone's our enemy and if you kill in the name of the Fire Nation, it's ok." She's still a child with absurd fire powers.....there was never any frame of reference that murder is bad. I don't really think that conversation ever occurred.
@@XxdextriousxX Yeah. I don't think enough people remember that Azula is literally like... fourteen. (She only ever really looks as young as she is one scene, when she's taunting Zuko in season 3 and has her hair down and her makeup off as she gets ready to sleep, which was a nice touch.) At this point most of her worldview and personality is just a lens for what her father wants.
i keep rewatching this just for your reactions for the katara-zuko scene in the crystal cavern. love it.
Fun fact: The earth bender that appears in the intro was supposed to be toph until the creators thought it would be better to make toph a blind little girl who is capable of kicking the fire nation soldiers asses. That s why toph is portrayed as big buff man in the play. The fire nation cant parody a character that made their people look bad repeatedly.
Yes, what soldier wants to admit in public he was defeat by a blind little girl ? 😂
HERE COMES THE 4 PART FINALE AND MORE TEARBENDING
