It's really not a big deal. I was a competitive gymnast and loved my leotards. You just make sure they fit you correctly and they'll stay in place fine. It's a big annoying going to the bathroom, but that's actually just because the long sleeves are generally pretty tight and can be hard to pull off.
@@isabellathefoxgirl6413 Me too. I didn't look that closely at the last Olympics, but I loved some of the leos the Russian girls were wearing. I hate the tiny swimsuit like suits..the German team wore long legged ones which looked great ..there’s also a shorts type button half dancers use in competition much much better especially at certain times of the month for females !
I mean, the reference to womans week is a good point tbh. I'm sure the majority of females would prefer to not have their monthly visit during the time they're doing the Olympics but we all know that mother nature doesn't give warnings or ask permission, so yes I think their should be another uniform option that covers more of the bottom half if/when the female athletes choose to wear it. Good point mate 👍🏻
I competed gymnastics all through high schoool. I have to say butt glue or hair spray is used but is not very effective. But even worse, if you ever go to adjust a wedgie during competition you get deducted. So you have to leave it hanging out even when you are bending over and everyone is staring at you. Super awkward.

Why don't they changed the outfit into a body cycling shorts they look way to reveling especially for the very private part 😀 or just change the bottom with shorts.....
Jsyk, the sleevless leos are for practice, and the leos with sleeves are for competition--there isn't exactly the option of wearing one or the other, it just depends on if you're competing or not
Umm.. no. You’re supposed to wear long sleeve leotards to any competition. Few teams have sleeveless competition leotards, but practice ones are sleeveless. Get ur information right
I am a former competitive gymnast and there are no secrets regarding gymnastic leotards. Just buy one that fits properly - one that won’t give you a wedgie simply from bending over or doing a routine.
Agreed. I thing college shows a bit more, but ours always had to cover our bottom. One time I fell on floor and it was basically up my butt. I danced in a part to pull it down away from judges (for my own coverage) so it didn’t get deducted (adjusting uniform/pulling wedgies). I’m already not wearing much, why can’t I keep my integrity? But why deduct a bra strap/underwear and not a thong purposely up the butt/not sized correctly? I got 1 size larger even though my young age group purposely covered my entire bottom. Even cheer get deducted for pulling down skirts. At least they have something underneath. It seems Olympic athletes don’t show as much as college, but 70-80s covered much more for sure.
Actually, gymnasts CAN wear pants. They can absolutely wear unitards and they have been making a comeback, the German team wore them at worlds. So you know, another poorly researched video.
Gymnastics is a sport, not a Las Vegas short girl entertainment. Crystals are not needed for shine and sparkle, which can be obtained in more comfortable and lighter ways than by adding so many Swarovski crystals. I would prefer more comfort and coverage, less buttocks and even crotch! Men's "uniforms" do not follow the same standards and guidelines as those for women's costumes! To me, it is insulting to think that women NEED all that glitz and glamour in order to attract attention! The accomplishments of these athletes is phenomennol on its own merits!
Girls . Still majority of gymnasts are minors . And if you use correct terminology , you would be horrified why underage girls are made to wear revealing clothes .
You don't need "butt-glue" if the outfits are not designed like swimwear. Those outfits are way too skimpy, sexualizing the gymnasts unnecessarily. The same is true in Track-and-Field running outfits. Women don't need to have their glutes totally exposed while running. And there are outfits that do not show all of this. Straight up----what does A--S---S--E---S have anything to do with a woman sprinting, or a woman doing backflips? Cover the glutes! That's not what the sport is all about! If seeing the shape of a gymnast's butt is so important, certainly the flesh-hugging spandex outfits will satisfy this requirement. It's stupid to put attractive women in these revealing outfits, and expect no one to get wrong ideas when training them. Then everyone is shocked when male or female coaches (for that matter) end up doing things to the athletes outside of training. No. The uniforms are not to blame for the evil actions of coaches; but those outfits don't help support an atmosphere of self-control. If anything, those outfits encourage wrong thinking, even for those who are not thinking "wrongly" .
As far as the cost goes, we Sewists/Seamstresses understood the costs, spandex, especially in these custom colors is going to send cost up a notch. And the beadwork! Most people have no idea how tough it is to get all those SWAROVSKI CRYSTALS on that material, most likely hand sewn. All in all, I always stare at the leotard’s design first!
🤔 I don't know why this got recommend to me, but huge respect to the gymnastics out there. The amount of skill, training, dedication & discipline that is required to perform like that is enormous. Ps: the clothes seem to be designed to look appealing for the viewers and this unfortunately happens in other sports as well. Like I once said to a guy: "try to do the same as she does, than u see how hard it is" [high heels]
@@Pookie_bear88 anytime : ) It is just incredible what a gymnast is capable of. Unlike most of us with the standard - twice a week, basic sports routine (jogging lol) a gymanst is almost flying around. Much respect to anyone who can do this.
I consider leotards to be works of art. I have collected over 600 leotards from all over the world over the last 20 plus years. I was even thinking of applying for a Guinness record.
I love the leotards worn by my favorite gymnasts. They don't just wear full sleeved leotards for the Olympic gymnastic competitions, but other gymnastic competitions as well. I so much as notice the differences of the leotard designs. Lol, comparing Spider Man's suit to the girls leotards.
yeah comp leo’s may be expensive and custom fit, but they’re not exactly comfortable. i speak from experience. we had $300 leo’s last season and they’re not itchy but it’s not comfortable either. they’re very tight and you get wedgies, plus the crystals and mesh isnt comfortable.
As a level gold gymnast myself I know that they are very expensive and I just with that they definitely had for coverage so I were shorts every practice, every competition.
My gymnastics uniforms cost 200-500 dollars and they’re so uncomfortable. Especially if you have to take them off and put them back on it’s the worst. The long sleeves are also annoying because if you get sweaty you’re gonna be miserable. But they are stunning.
I've always been vexed that women's uniform requirements are skimpy, while men get coverage. As a former gymnast, I just wanted to be comfortable -- not to be oogled. ...Speaking of which, what is with your thumbnail frame -- the zoom on a girl's crotch? Trying a little too hard...
What surprised me the most is that they make leotards really small. When i bought a leotard, I needed 2 sizes bigger, to fit in. I’m 1,76 m and small, so normally I have size S, but now I had size L. There was also not a size bigger than L, so when a gymnast is on a firmer side, it can be really difficult for them to buy a leotard.
I personally felt covered when I was younger (despite the tightness), but college has shown a lot and I’m not sure if the age group prefers it, but Olympic covered more than college’s (sometimes improperly) fitted leos. This sport (along with others) has given me nutritional problems. I’d buy comp leos larger than they needed to be since it was just uncomfortable all these people seeing you.
Your American college gymnastics culture must be scrutinized and severely checked . I have never seen such inappropriately revealing leotards like in American college competition . Taking into consideration that majority of gymnasts are underage under 21 I feel that there must be a change of policy .
@@junglesuperstar9270 there are some gymnasts off the top of my head who order them purposely small or hike them up pre-routine, but I’ve heard (I could be wrong) they don’t cover the bottom as much since it’s not young young children or olympians so they may have an option to show more? Not 110% but no olympians are this revealing and if they have a wedgie they pull it down ASAP. Everyone, no matter the age, is scrutinized on weight and appearance and it’s not something I want to re-live. Very unsettling and gives severe body image issues like several sports where the body is shown to this extent. It’s a deduction to even adjust your leotard mid routine (understandable), but when it’s up your butt like a thong after gluing it yourself, children and adults like to feel as covered as the sport allows. During warmups coaches say “shorts and pants off,” and if you’re not used to it, your heart drops.
$700-1200 is a lot cheaper than I was expecting considering they're all custom designed and probably hand made. Especially if there's up to 2 years of design. Most of this was not at all surprising. Of course there's prototypes and multiple fittings.
Long sleeves also add to the visual extension of the body line. I do wish, however (especially because the leotards are crazy expensive), that they fit better. When they're too short, it just looks so uncomfortable (and tends to emphasize the bum instead of the whole body). Unless, of course, that's what's intended!
But a lot of the gymnasts love the bling! So why not? 🤷🏽♀️ I mean, for the Paris games, the Brazilian team had a member design their leotards and they’re pretty sparkly!
@@andersnielsen6044 I am all for showing off athletic bodies and looking good and elegant. Sparkles doesn't equate to elegant athletes to me. It is tacky.
@@andersnielsen6044 Sparkles does not equate to sensuality. Sparkles = Spirit Fingers Pageantry. If couple teams did sparkle outfits, that is fine. But now it is the standard and it actually looks immature.
Swarovski crystals are bot crystals. They are cut glass. Very pretty and incredibly precisely cut glass. But not crystals. If anything a glass is the opposite of a crystal. The molecules that make it up are not aligned in any way at all. Where crystals are extremely organized.
"They even had a limited edition uniform" all the Olympics leotards were limited edition... And the competition apparently only lasts 4 days now... no qualifications then I guess. And some do wear short sleeves at the Olympics. A very odd video...
Aren't unitards (the ones with long legs) legal? But hardly any artistic gymnasts use them. Rhythmic gymnasts can choose between leos, with or without skirts or unitards. They can be very elegant and elongates the legs too....
They should allow gymnasts, of every level, from 1 to Olympic, to wear shorts over their leotards, or have leotards with built in long pants. If they are tight enough, there is no reason for the judges to have trouble seeing how tight their legs are and everything, and then the gymnasts can cover more of their body. I don’t know about other people, but I sometimes wish leotards aren't so see through or revealing. People should have the choice to cover as much of their body as they want, and there should be a limit to how much you can show. This might be an unpopular opinion, but it's what I think.
Tuna sticks is so odd. Why do they have to get all dolled up? They are professional athletes! Why on earth do they need makeup and hair before they hit the floor! Super weird and creepy. Idk why I’m the only one who feels this way

You wear less and show more skin wearing your personal swimwear at the beach or pool. If you are that uncomfortable wearing leotards in competition, find another sport to participate where the uniforms are less uncomfortable for you.
It would be better if the athletes themselves have their skin tight same skin color of their legs and thigh in cyclings as panty/s or underwear before using the leotard so it woulld look normal and well nothing's accidentally flashed as what's supposed to be covered should remain covered

How many women do not participate in the sport because they have to wear bikinis to participate?
eh, opinion is mixed between the girls I know. Some hate them and only wear them because they have, most don't really care, but some like me genuinely like wearing them. The bottom half feels nice and gives me freedom, plus it looks funny which I like xD
'guys would never agree to wear them' well, this is mostly true but my bro is an exception 😏
@@isabellathefoxgirl6413 but isnt it a pain having to be so careful with body hair? Seems like every girl would have to start waxing or get lazered
It's really not a big deal. I was a competitive gymnast and loved my leotards. You just make sure they fit you correctly and they'll stay in place fine. It's a big annoying going to the bathroom, but that's actually just because the long sleeves are generally pretty tight and can be hard to pull off.
@@94gymnast so glad that there at least some girls who share my love for leos! Did you have a fave? 😊
@@isabellathefoxgirl6413 Me too. I didn't look that closely at the last Olympics, but I loved some of the leos the Russian girls were wearing. Aside from that going back to 2008 and that era I always like Nastia's pink one and Shawn Johnson always wore such beautiful and unique leotards. I had a closet full kf them myself for years, but eventually started selling them. What are some of your favorites?
I feel they should cover more than they do.
I hate the tiny swimsuit like suits..the German team wore long legged ones which looked great ..there’s also a shorts type button half dancers use in competition much much better especially at certain times of the month for females !
The unitards look more body conscious and revealing to me. Glad the gymnasts get a choice now.
What happened to the long-legged ones?
I mean, the reference to womans week is a good point tbh. I'm sure the majority of females would prefer to not have their monthly visit during the time they're doing the Olympics but we all know that mother nature doesn't give warnings or ask permission, so yes I think their should be another uniform option that covers more of the bottom half if/when the female athletes choose to wear it. Good point mate 👍🏻
they can delay this by meds
I competed gymnastics all through high schoool. I have to say butt glue or hair spray is used but is not very effective. But even worse, if you ever go to adjust a wedgie during competition you get deducted. So you have to leave it hanging out even when you are bending over and everyone is staring at you. Super awkward.
I support making boys have to wear the same leos we do 😈
Edit: I dunno how this comment got the number of likes and replies it did lol
They can wear pants tho😭
@@macyoakes2336 if i ran a gym, I'd make them have to wear leos without pants like we do!
Or, get this, girls get to wear shorts or pants but boys don''t 😘
Nahhh i would go like the old way NAKED❤️
That would be halarious I'm a gymnast and it's so not fair they get to wear pants or shorts while competing
@@Hazy_h not sure if this story is true but one of my fellow gymnasts told me that the brother of someone at her old gym was once made to wear a girls leotard (no shorts) and join the girls for an informal practice with them. Apparently he was being punished for something really bad but idk what. And yes, the color of the leo was pink xD
(She did show me a pic so I think the story is true xD
My daughter as a gymnast follows every move on gymnastics. And now that she is junior elite the leotards are even more but it is worth it to see the smile on her face when she gets her amazing Leo that is like 400 dollars.
My daughter wouldn’t wear that I think it’s a shame to put little girls in outfits that everything is hanging out. They need bike shorts r body suit pants
Or we could quit s-xualising the human body.
Wearing my Leo right now I can agree
The metallic leos are the best looking imo, like a beautiful suit of armor! Not a fan of the rhinestone covered ones though.
The crystals are still produced from glass and a bit of lead, not actual crystals mined from Moria
Why don't they changed the outfit into a body cycling shorts they look way to reveling especially for the very private part 😀 or just change the bottom with shorts.....
Gymnasts looked better in the simple leotards of the 70s and 80s. A thousand dollars plus for a leotard is obscene.
Jsyk, the sleevless leos are for practice, and the leos with sleeves are for competition--there isn't exactly the option of wearing one or the other, it just depends on if you're competing or not
Weird . In Russia both are worn during competitions .
Umm.. no. You’re supposed to wear long sleeve leotards to any competition. Few teams have sleeveless competition leotards, but practice ones are sleeveless. Get ur information right
Depending on the organization and level (USA) sleeveless competition leotards is allowed.
I've sean sleevless leo's at competition and once there were like three teams without sleeves
What what I’ve known Hong Un Jong has always competed in a sleeveless leotard?
I am a former competitive gymnast and there are no secrets regarding gymnastic leotards. Just buy one that fits properly - one that won’t give you a wedgie simply from bending over or doing a routine.
Did you have a favorite leo (either one you competed in or practised in)? 😊
Thank you! I was just goi g to say this.
Oh good deal!!
The old Team Spain leotards that looked like a Matadors Suit of Lights was so iconic. I was sorry they retired them after so many years.
GET RID OF THE GLUE AND MAKE THE SUIT WITH SHORT LEG COVERS! FIX THE SWIMMING BOTTOMS TOO!
My face when the clip with the Auburn gymnasts came on 😦😲😲😲
You don't need "butt-glue" if the outfits are not designed like swimwear.
You know athletes can be proud of their physiques?
Way too expensive. :O I had no idea they were so pricey.
The unitards are so uncomfy I have no idea how the German team wore a FULL leo. It’s so annoying and there’s like no aerodynamics.
Yes! Leotards FTW!
I think it is best creating you own custom made women's gymnastic uniforms.
Why can mens gymnastics pants be on the baggy side?
🤔 I don't know why this got recommend to me, but huge respect to the gymnastics out there. The amount of skill, training, dedication & discipline that is required to perform like that is enormous. Ps: the clothes seem to be designed to look appealing for the viewers and this unfortunately happens in other sports as well. Like I once said to a guy: "try to do the same as she does, than u see how hard it is" [high heels]
I’m a gymnast and it feels good for someone not doing gymnastics to appreciate it thx
@@Pookie_bear88 anytime : ) It is just incredible what a gymnast is capable of. Unlike most of us with the standard - twice a week, basic sports routine (jogging lol) a gymanst is almost flying around. Much respect to anyone who can do this.
as a gymnast being recognized and appreciated feels amazing because people are always saying how "easy" gymnastics is. Thank you :)
I consider leotards to be works of art. I have collected over 600 leotards from all over the world over the last 20 plus years. I was even thinking of applying for a Guinness record.
I think you should apply!
Instead of "butt glue "I sometimes just use hairspray
Pritt stick is super effective (just a normal glue stick for paper)
My daughter used the glue for her socks in Irish dancing 😁
I love the leotards worn by my favorite gymnasts. They don't just wear full sleeved leotards for the Olympic gymnastic competitions, but other gymnastic competitions as well. I so much as notice the differences of the leotard designs. Lol, comparing Spider Man's suit to the girls leotards.
Wait what? Ur telling me that our competition clothes come in different sizes? I had no idea 😒
Such an amazing discipline. I couldnt care less about an uniform when Im seeing a performance tho.
It's I could care less 😌 😪 🙂
yeah comp leo’s may be expensive and custom fit, but they’re not exactly comfortable. i speak from experience. we had $300 leo’s last season and they’re not itchy but it’s not comfortable either. they’re very tight and you get wedgies, plus the crystals and mesh isnt comfortable.
I get what you mean but can you not simply buy bigger leotards?
As a level gold gymnast myself I know that they are very expensive and I just with that they definitely had for coverage so I were shorts every practice, every competition.
Girls leos get smaller and smaller, guys wear doesn't change.
My gymnastics uniforms cost 200-500 dollars and they’re so uncomfortable. Especially if you have to take them off and put them back on it’s the worst. The long sleeves are also annoying because if you get sweaty you’re gonna be miserable. But they are stunning.
Just for the record this isn’t just for Olympics this is also for team gymnastics
new design perfect 🤩 fit relaxing new
"Real Swarovski" crystals 🙄 they're just glass+
It’s the cut & sparkle that gives them their recognition. These are the highest quality, precision cut “glass “
I've always been vexed that women's uniform requirements are skimpy, while men get coverage. As a former gymnast, I just wanted to be comfortable -- not to be oogled. ...Speaking of which, what is with your thumbnail frame -- the zoom on a girl's crotch? Trying a little too hard...
yea leotards are tight but i rly like wearing them, like after training i dont get changed until i have a shower that night
Never been more thankful for leotards 👀 uh no
Wow compression garments that are custom tailored are expensive and tight who would’ve guessed
Everyone knew how tight those tights were, and that's the problem.
Long sleeves also add to the visual extension of the body line. I do wish, however (especially because the leotards are crazy expensive), that they fit better. When they're too short, it just looks so uncomfortable (and tends to emphasize the bum instead of the whole body). Unless, of course, that's what's intended!
The sparkles are a bit much in my opinion. I prefer a sleaker design. These are respected athletes not Beauty Pagent contestants.
lol it is all about beauty and elegance, sensuality and showing off. That is why the media and the sponsors are there. Don't try to justify.
But a lot of the gymnasts love the bling! So why not? 🤷🏽♀️
I mean, for the Paris games, the Brazilian team had a member design their leotards and they’re pretty sparkly!
@@andersnielsen6044 I am all for showing off athletic bodies and looking good and elegant. Sparkles doesn't equate to elegant athletes to me. It is tacky.
@@igloozoo3771 The "look" and the sensuality etc is literally what pays the bill for the gymnasts. Stop pretending ;)
@@andersnielsen6044 Sparkles does not equate to sensuality. Sparkles = Spirit Fingers Pageantry. If couple teams did sparkle outfits, that is fine. But now it is the standard and it actually looks immature.
I believe there are laid down rules for leotards for gymnastics which have to be adhered too.
Yes the cost of the leotards is very expensive my leotard from decathlon cost 25€
this is all true I am a gymnast and I go through all of this
Do you have a favorite leo? 😊
Swarovski crystals are bot crystals. They are cut glass. Very pretty and incredibly precisely cut glass. But not crystals. If anything a glass is the opposite of a crystal. The molecules that make it up are not aligned in any way at all. Where crystals are extremely organized.
They now use materials that come with strechy nylon polyester cloth, theres really tight fitting.
"They even had a limited edition uniform" all the Olympics leotards were limited edition...
And the competition apparently only lasts 4 days now... no qualifications then I guess.
And some do wear short sleeves at the Olympics.
A very odd video...
Yes WHY do MEN legs are COVERED.STOP wearing this YOU canREFUSE ladies.DECIDE for YOURSELVES😮😮😮😮
I do a different type of gymnastics and you have to wear way more gems on your leotards and the cost is 700-5000+
Sounds like some one/S are clipping the ticket in the making of the uniforms
Tuna sticks is so odd. Why do they have to get all dolled up? They are professional athletes! Why on earth do they need makeup and hair before they hit the floor! Super weird and creepy. Idk why I’m the only one who feels this way
They are way too tight and whom is this for .....men
Lovely unitard worn by Sarah Voss (Germany), performs a gorgeous balance beam routine at City of Jesolo Trophy 2022. th-cam.com/video/VDPhD1yu5Bc/w-d-xo.html The traditional leo will never go out of style, so the unitard is just an optional style for the taller gymnast.

It’s just ridiculous that the gymnasts are not allowed to fix wedgies during their routines. Why?
They could’ve done a full body leotards especially of those conservative gymnasts that are not comfortable for such swimsuit leotards.
Omg seriously- the Leos are so expensive 😭

Es solo para mujeres los leotardos?
After hearing about how much a leotard costs, and the time it requires to make one, it's surprising how hideous looking some of them are
Gymnastikanzüge sollten in jeder Körperhaltung faltenfrei sitzen...
Leotards are the biggest reason i cant do gymnastics outside of school
I clicked on this because im curious what people have to say abt Leo’s and curious what everyone knows 👀
Are you a leotard fan too? Do you have a fave which you wear? 😊
Bring back naked gymnastics!!!!!
$1000 is cheap. I’ve seen competition bikinis and figure outfits for bodybuilding cost that much with in have a lot less material.
The USA is already amazing but imagine how it would be with a state sponsored structure like China and the Soviet Union did.
i'm a gymnast, and when i wear pants or loose shorts to practice, they get so mad. im insecure and i hate wearing leos. imo, they are too tight, and uncomfortable. our competition leos are wayyyyy too small and ride up our butts all the time bc of how tight and small they are. it's ridiculous.
You wear less and show more skin wearing your personal swimwear at the beach or pool. If you are that uncomfortable wearing leotards in competition, find another sport to participate where the uniforms are less uncomfortable for you.
Volleyball, Handball, Gymnastics are all sexual and have nothing to do with functionality then the men would wear the same thing.
They even force the women to wear revealing uniforms and tell the men to cover up
It would be better if the athletes themselves have their skin tight same skin color of their legs and thigh in cyclings as panty/s or underwear before using the leotard so it woulld look normal and well nothing's accidentally flashed as what's supposed to be covered should remain covered
We are required to were sleeves during comp
ReFUSE to wear Junk on your bodies.STOP being EXPOSED like this.Tights can be used to.
Male and female gymnasts should be required to wear full leg leotards instead of the sexist leotards they must wear now. Why do girls have to wear a bikini bottom!!!!! How chauvinistic
i have been in gymnastics for five years and the leos have to be tight to fit
