Because Russia is on the winning side, and you are losing. If the Europeans send troops to Ukraine, the Russians will kill them. You try it and see. And the Americans will not come to bail you out. Get it ? Numskull.

Doctrine of the EU armies is defence not offense. As long EU is not attacked the EU will hold its hands behind her back. ...and just waiting and waiting. No change for Ukraine this way. Only way Ukraine to survive is by a Coalition of the Willing (NATO members and other nations but no NATO as is no US boots on the ground). Or an invitation by the Ukraine Government to Poland and the Baltic states to ‘occupy’ Ukraine so Ukraine will become a straight member to EU and NATO. ...Ukraine will be seen as part of Poland a NATO-EU member. Can’t predict how the Russians would react but it seems likely that a steal mate will be reached by splitting Ukraine in half. In this scenario Kyiv will be a East/West Berlin kinda city.
Refugees pro West can flee East Ukraine now because of the Russian upcoming cleansing

Biden has not set Trump up in any way here, so if Trump fails, it is all on him, not because he was "set up" by anyone.
ZERO comparison. And to put a point on it, Soviets got burned badly when they went into Afghanistan in 1980. They've lost easily double the troops in Ukraine compared to what they lost in Afghanistan, and as for material, it is catastrophic. Putin is having his plants restore pre-Vietnam-era tanks to fight... that would be comparable to the US hauling M60's out of retirement.

    • @kinngrimm

Because most european nations are part of NATO and thereby treaty bound. NATO sofar tried to stay out of the conflict as much as possible, while still providing equipment and bankrolling Ukrain. That sofar works as russia bleeds out. If NATO gets involved with its own national armies, that would be an escalation that may actually lead to a nuclear conflict. So careful what you wish for.

Nasty EU and USA liberal politicans using ukrainan blood to try to push Russia to economic crash. Thats why everybody support now and ofc they later get gifted of that help. All was planned before 2014 special jewish group of newcons. This war is good excuse to cancel cheap energy and resources from Russian companies to open a more higher priced and better positioned market for USA supplies. This war is nothing about ideology, territory, people or democratic but only money and thise ugly warmongers who get richer.

However, we should not forget that just as Europe and its Leaders are slowly and quietly showing their actions regarding the near future of Ukraine, they also do not mention the fact that if someone really shakes the Crystal ball, for example China attacks Taiwan next year or a year later, what will happen then and whether Europe and NATO will tell America, Trump, something like he is saying now, this is not our war, Ukraine is not our problem and therefore after shaking the crystal ball, Europe or NATO will tell him, this is not our problem, this Pacific region, watch for yourself, what would happen then, it cannot be predicted. But everything is possible. Only God have all picture.

I tend to think that the worst is yet to come. That some Western powers previously intent on increasing supply to Ukraine's military will be pulling back on that material support. Trump's stance is a factor, but far from the only factor. Germany is headed for political change. France in the throes of political change. There is more, and none of it favors increased supply to Ukraine. It all tends toward reduced support, given the current political trends. If I were to take Canada as an example, and the fact that Zelenskyy said that Canada ought to increase its support to Ukraine, it seems unlikely that that is going to happen. Canada too is the throes of political instability and change. Leadership problems and an impending election are on the slate. Issues such as rising costs of living, increasing demands on food banks for those who cannot afford the costs of living, the homeless problem, the drug problem and more is tending to draw in the attention of the average Canadian to what are Canadian social and political problems. There is declining interest in supporting Ukraine and opposition to it is growing in light of other perceived national needs. So it does not look good, but Canada is not a unique exception. Other nations are feeling similar shifts toward a more nationalist, isolationist, viewpoint. So the pressures on Ukraine to enter into meaningful and realistic negotiations with Russia are going to increase, not decrease. It is also far less likely that Ukraine's supporters, allies, will be willing to put boots on the ground in Ukraine. The political climate is increasingly oppositional to any such move and yet it is entirely improbable that Ukraine can "win" the war without allies putting boots on the ground in Ukraine. We have seen enough, thus far, and it is clearly indicative of what the long term outcome, barring any allies putting boots on the ground, is certain to become. The one advantage for Ukraine is that Russia really does not want to go that distance if it can avoid it, and it would rather retain some capacity for positive relations with whatever geopolitical entities evolve from out of the conflict, rather than going all out, full force, to crush Ukraine more quickly or that completely. They are holding back and they seem intent on continuing to do so, but that does not assure that they will not escalate to that level as the war continues, without a negotiated resolution that serves the interests of all parties to the conflict.

    Very good discussion!
Maybe there is another way, not quick, but a must. A UN organised intervention force madeup of european armies and other member armies. Basicaly a sort of a bigger police department or jandarmerie, at global scale.
    Reason:
With some exceptions (Putin etc) we already behave like living in a big city and not as individual isolated countries. That force can intervine in conflicts or prevent others by making order and arresting leaders with criminal actions (like Putin). So, no need for nukes.
A model already exists: NATO. But a bigger one. A specialised intervention force, without any fancy nationalist poem based retoric, without any slogans, without nationalistic identity motivation, but more concentrated just on peace and order (like police for ex.). This kind of thing can be a well suited jobs for anybody that wants to make money by keeping the order, just like in a local police.
I know this is a very complex and huge discussion to have, also a huge effort, but we all must look to ourselves, recognise who we are and have it, in order to not let people die anymore because one or another idiot dictator. Any war is producing so much damage not only to people, but to economies and environment. Without that force, UN is just a bunch of well fed people talking nonsense on big salaries.
Humanity need this force now, not in the future!

European troops in Ukraine looks like a great idea. But were foreign mercenaries in Ukraine and where are now? Europeans want to die for Zelenski?

Thank you, Adam, and guests. Interesting discussion. I think the least expensive way to end the war in Ukraine is give them everything they need to defeat Russia. Trump does not want to be seen as a loser in anything.

'give them everything they need to defeat Russia. ' is a failed rhetoric, no point continuing with that line after defeat.
Firstly, Ukraine does not have manpower, it cannot recruit enough, and the ones sent to the frontlines now are deserting.
Secondly, the US does not have money and arms of quality and quantity to give.

They already received it. Plus that is zero concern for Ukraine in this proxy war.
In 18 months Ukr will lose 2 generations of men that would be irreplaceable as they have upside down demographics and even in a future peace will be replaced by Russians in their country.

They thought they had won the cold war, and they could threaten Russia with NATO expansion and Russia was too weak to retaliate. Now you know how strong Russia is - it has defeated the collective west, you are begging for a freeze to the conflict.

When the USA invaded the European continent in World War II, they found a continent of defeated nations that needed to be rescued. But in the current situation there is a continent of fully restored nations that are fully capable of raising armies, navies and air forces. The US Forces can come forward, but they need to see Polish forces on their right, French forces on their left and German forces making up the armored and artillery units and UK forces making up some air units. NATO needs to be a "rainbow" of units from all European nations. In this way every European nation can see their brothers standing shoulder to shoulder as they move forward.

Zelensky will not go for a cease-fire, because his conditions are contrary to Putin's demands.
The only choice Diaper Donnie has is to start giving Ukraine more efficient weapons, and that Europe will send country-based defence contingents (not NATO, as much as Mad Vlad will scream) to aid Ukraine, just like Russia is getting DPRK soldiers and other Eastern and African mercenaries.

Could we stop the Russian aggression directed toward Ukraine simply announcing Ukraine will not join NATO.
Nations in the western hemisphere could continue to aid Ukraine.
Both Russia and Ukraine could therefore agree to a peace policy.
