    Gonna try to start my '79 Trans Am tomorrow after a 14yr slumber in storage, if its nice out. Miss that low basey rumble growl. Had BlackJack alumicoat headers with a Thrush exhaust so tight you could do pull ups on it. One of the collectors rusted thru at the ring because of the thinner metal, but coolest thing ever was the emergency brake cable was holding it in place and when I let the break off completely it was like running open headers! Rev it up a few times at the light then tap on the break a little and right back to stock sound :-) Much like what Bufford T. Justice said in the movie.... Thats an attention getter!

      Hey there, I know you commented on this a year ago, and I hope you are able to reply. My father passed away last year and he left me behind his '77 Trans Am that has also been parked in the garage for 15 years, prior to that it only ran for a couple of mins to take it off the trailer when we moved here and before that it was parked for another 3-4 years I believe. Can I bother you for some tips on getting it running? I'm mechanically inclined and have worked on tons of cars, have just never worked on anything with a carburetor or something that sat still for 15 years. Thank you.

    So with a bigger cam your 403 with 170hp...went to 190 hp?

    • @hitman5423
      @hitman5423 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s 185 when new, so by now it must be down to 140 or less. Than cam might’ve brought it back closer to the original rating.

      @adamguzzo94 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      No.. it's actually not that hard to get 400 hp and 400 ft pound out of them. Bottom ends are kinda weak but they make girdles for them.. can run some pretty ridiculous rpms for a big v8 too. But most people are too stupid to fuck with them or they see the 180 hp stock and figure it's not worth it. Which is fine with me cause that means you can still buy them cheap

      @@adamguzzo94 as someone who’s planning on trying to squeeze as much performance as possible out of one of a 79 403, you got any advice?

    • @adamguzzo94
      @adamguzzo94 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joakimcroteau1913 cam, duals, aftermarket carb, headers and after market heads are probably the best place to start. They have really thin cylinder walls so don't bore them out. They run kinda hot too so a bigger radiator wouldn't hurt. Biggest problem with the 403s staying together is the lower ends are kind of weak so if your going for real power I would suggest a halo support or engine girdle. Strengthens up the block. The have huge pistons and a pretty long stroke and they make torque pretty easy so If you really wanted to go balls to the wall with it then stroke it and you'll have torque out the ass. The aftermarket heads will raise the low stock compression ratio. And get rid of the emissions/smog bullshitery.. They are capable of pretty high rpms too, I've seen the T/A on my profile hit 6500 and I've heard of 7k plus but again that's with that girdle. They need that girdle to hold together with any kind of power

    Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
    from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
    Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
    reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
    central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all
    the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per
    minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned
    too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and
    gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
    So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They
    even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke
    crime.:-((

      I live in KY in the US. It's a rural state for the most part. We won't be banning combustion engines here anytime in the next 50 years. Europeans need to vote out the idiots who are oppressing your freedoms.

    • @robcawte4092
      @robcawte4092 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh this is not totally correct. From 2035 there will be a ban on the sale of NEW petrol and diesel vehicles in the EU. This applies to cars and vans only, not trucks (semis). You will still be able to have and use an internal combustion engine manufactured prior to 2035.
