I like how you teach how to get to a usable bass line rather than just playing a transcription. Both are valuable, of course. thanks so much1
My pleasure Scott! Glad you really like it! Cheers!
I'm a 68 year old woman with a grandson who is 17 and a natural for playing just about any thing. I'm trying to relearn to play my Bass which I could play however never correctly. I'm trying to change from picking with my thumb to my fingers. Bad habits are hard to break. Your video on playing Pride & Joy has given me new hope that I might just pull this off. We will both be surprised if I can accompany him when his plays this song. Thank you!
Good luck... you should join us on the new blues accelerator we’re building
Nice breakdown, thanks!
Thanks man…
Thankyou, Thank-you, Thank-you. Worked on many bass riffs for years. Oh yes. "All Right Now" the original bass used a short neck Gibson. Can be found in a early black and white video.
You're very welcome! Cheers!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get this song done.
This is a timeless lesson mate. Thank you. I like the approach of the 'core ideas'.
I agree about the core ideas. If we’re to aspire to a level of musicianship worthy of the price of admission, we have to be able to run with the core ideas and make it pleasing to listen to. And quite frankly, I don’t have the time to sit down and learn to play it note for note just like the Double Trouble bassist does.
Spot on! My pleasure! Cheers mate!
Well done. Simple, clear and complete!
Thanks man! Stay tuned for more videos! :-)
thank you I learned this awhile back and I used it for live playing works great but im a rocker so I forgot. great to learn again maybe but will stick this time

very easy to learn and awesome lesson. Thanks
Cheers! Thanks for the feedback Thomas :-)
Very helpful: this approach to detect patterns and to include them in into the 12 bar blues structure. Then modifying the simple patterns step by step. I do like this lesson a lot! Thank your!
Glad you like the lesson Jens! My pleasure!
Thanks James, really useful for me as a beginner who loves the 12 bar blues already. Richard (UK)
Hey Richard! Glad to hear you find it very useful. Cheers!
excellent! thanks so much!
My pleasure :-)
very very very very good explanation
Thanks man! Appreciated it very much!
I really like that second idea dropping to the lower third. I think Tommy Shannon does the same thing on Johnny B Good e with Johnny Winter. Great explanation thank you!
My pleasure Chris! Great share!
Nice explanation. ps: that cat is so chill :)
Haha! Thanks man! :-)
can you do a video on the bass line to cold shot?
thanks!
My pleasure! :-)
I like that alot
Glad you like it Billy! Cheers!
Love your videos. Would you consider doing a lesson on Baby Please Don’t Go by B.B. King?
I’ll stick it on the list!
Appreciate this, super-helpful. Guitarist converting to bass for a gig and really didn't know how to approach this.
Happy to know you found this helpful!
@@ebassguitar Thanks, gig went great, the song came off flawlessly thanks to your video.
Super helpful. I'm in the same situation, except I have two days to prepare 🙂
Glad you find this helpful! All the best!
Great video. Great to study. Can you translate it to E standard since this is Eb. Guess you only need to move up a half step.
Absolutely - just transpose it up one fret!
Finally, some one who talks sense
Thanks for the kind comments Jeff! All the best! :-)
Nicely Done!!! I know it's been 3 years, but how did Denny do?
I'm interested on this too lol
(I was curious, myself. Looks like it went well)

Thanx to You James...I Had a BLAST !!!
Nice job, James. I've ALWAYS played that line wrong - and I mean REALLY WRONG! LOL. I just play 1-4-5 in E - walking, of course. Thanks for the right notes!
My pleasure dan!
Have you joined us in basslabgroup.com yet?
Thanks, sometimes a guy just needs to hear this stuff again
You're most welcome Dave! :-)
the cat is taking it easy ;)
Thanks brother for explaining things that are easy to get. Do you ever show any hard rock, or heavy songs on bass too?
Pleasure! I can do... what songs / bands so you have in mind? also, have you joined basslabgroup.com?
❤❤❤❤❤
So glad I decided to take a peek here James!.. even though I should be working on my Riff Masters course ;) What a great job explaining and making it easy to grasp and understand at same time! With Bass in hand and a few rewinds to concrete things in and hear the notes to make sure I had it right, I did it! Coming from me, that is HUGE! You the Man! Thanks so Much!
In a similar position..looking to learn black cat bone...can u help..
How am I going to sing this and play the walking Bass line !!! Oh my actual life
As far as I know,Thommy Shannon was simply tuning his bass down a half step as well. That's it.
SRV and DT played everything straight but tuned down a half step... almost anytime i've played SRV songs the bands just play them straight, either in E or A... the 5 or 6 bands i've played Pride and Joy with have always played it in E, so you get to do some open string stuff and ghost note stuff like TS does....
I really like the feel of playing it tuned down a half step...
You want to show us that lick you're playing at the beginning of this lesson?
Habla demasiado tiempo
As you said, Shannon gets more involved. What most people dont notice is that he plays open E, or Eb, all the way trough th-cam.com/video/sZv3CEZahYE/w-d-xo.html
It is e flat when it is tuned down.
Fair point. But in the context of the gig my student was doing they were not tuning down. As a bassist I've played songs like Sweet Child O' Mine in Db so many times!
Tune down and play it a half step higher.
Thanks John! Truly appreciate the suggestion :-)
Fret buzz is killing me
Its heavily accentuated by the lav mic for the teaching... just pulls out the top end. Quality of the information is still good tho... :-)
Did you really not tune down for this?😊
No!
Being able to play in ever key is an important skill
too much talking
Ciao,Vaugan suona accordato in Mib (Eb) così puoi suonarla in Mi comoda
Brilliant bass lesson for a classic song!
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
