Can be only a little bit crowded if the Airport Train is crowded and many people want to use the escalator at Phaya Thai. But wait for some minutes, and you'll be fine.

Thanks for posting this? How long is the walk from Phaya Thai Station to the BTS station?
Not long, may be at most 200 metres from Platform to platform. Much better than changing at Makkasan as the walk is much longer.
