- Subscribers to my channel will know I bought an over-conditioned pair of Iron Rangers from eBay nearly 2 years ago. Recently, a better pair became available on eBay and I snagged it, leaving me with a decision as to what to do with the earlier pair. In this video, I clean it up to dye it black!

Who Am I?
I am a Management Consultant in real life but in my Bootlosophy channel, I make videos about boots and all things boot related. This channel posts reviews of boots, unboxing of new boots, and follow up reviews, and in doing so, may explore the philosophy of the brands from time to time!
I have owned boots for decades, but to be honest I have owned them as functional pieces of footwear. It wasn't until early 2020 when COVID struck that I started online shopping boots to an obsessive degree. I love the aesthetic of boots and I love finding out more about how they are made. I now own an insane number of boots, and one day I may sell some of them (just not right now).

That came out better than I expected. Great job! I own these iron rangers in black. Still breaking them in. Amazing boots.
Dying boots is always a fun process. I dyed a pair of ARIAT boots black. They were sold out of the black ones I wanted so I bought the brown ones and dyed them myself and they turned out great. As long as you do the process correctly it is really hard to mess it up. Great job! They look great!
For a DIY is a great great work, just to add for a better results, people can use acetone after the saddle soap and drying process; acetone will help to clean in deep the pores to receive the new dye. Then renovateur and finally some natural cream
Great to see people customize things on their own.
Very dope video sir. I was very excited when I saw the thumbnail for this one. I had been waiting on this since you mentioned and didn’t think you’d drop the video so soon. They look great. Very rugged and worn in. Would go great with a pair of jeans meeting some friends at a pub. Lol. I like this video style as well. You have a great channel. Appreciate the time and effort you put into making your content. Later.
Wow that's awesome! Thanks for showing the process.
Looks great. Good work Tek.
I’ve been pondering this… seems pretty simple! Great video 👍
Hey Tek...they came out a treat mate...well worth the effort I would say!
I’ve never had to dye chromed leathers. Nice to see it can work so well. Nicely done!
Well done Teik. That was a great idea given your other pair of 8111's. I really like the look of black Iron Rangers. My 8084's are one of my favorite pair of boots. BTW... I was channeling AC/DC Back in Black while I was watching your video!
😂😂😂🕺🕺🕺
Those look great! Excellent work😀
Those came out great. Keep up the good work sir.
That turned out well. Wonder if i should try this on my 10877s
Thanks for showing us
Turned out great! Definitely seems to have been well worth the work - not only unique Iron Rangers now, but they look good too (that doesn't always happen after dye jobs).
Fantastic video. Thanks for this
nice result, they look great!
Very Beautiful Job thanks for sharing
I really like the black with the darker brown welt and sole, and the dyed threads more than the stock 8084 look. Well done!
Teik, that was an intensely relaxing video to watch.
Great job, they look really good.
DAMN GOOD JOB MY FRIEND!!! I really like this type of content, getting into the modification process :-)
I need a workshop 🤣🤣🤣
Looks GREAT!
Man, they look great. Fantastic job. Really.
Hey. This is a great video. Thanks T!
Turned out great!
That looks awesome. Any update videos after some wear time? Perhaps some fading and brown coming through..?
that was awesome, they look like nearly new!
When you get them re soled, go all black out, soles, welt and leather. They will look great!
Love it.
I’ve dyed some cowboy boots. They turned out great. Nice job.
They came out awesome
Turned out nice.
Congrats, they look pretty good, honestly. Nothing like having a good pair of black IR. Mine were my favorites until I get my Copper R&T... And my AE Dalton... And Hamilton 😅
Thank you for the video.
Looks good
That was very interesting, I have a pair of Thursday Captain’s that I over darkened with Obenauf’s water proofing and conditioner. I think I will dye them black as I like the way yours came out. I do have black t-core horse butt Wesco Hendrix boots which I think look great.
i did this a couple of days ago i used acetone to basically clean and take out previous dye and oils and used water based fibings dye practically used the whole bottle to do both boots used a hair dryer to dry between dyes after all of that i used some fibings aussie conditioner to seal the dye took me about 3-4 hours to do everything
Wow Teik what a great outcome! Those look incredible. Do you think they will show brown scuffs like a tea core leather?
Ahhh I see you mention that with your 1 coat application. I had my heart set on the Blacksmith 3345 in the Black Prarie leather but they had sold out. So I picked up some Wolverine 1000 mile in Horween Arabica Lux and the core is extremely light. Could be some interesting patina on those eventually.
I dyed a pair of Slate Muleskinners Black and waxed it to get a Spitfire leather aesthetic. I love how yours turned out.
@JonnyRaz234, I just bought a pair of the IR Hawthorne Muleskinners, which were ordered in my proper Brannock size; however, the Salesperson ordered the Amber in a 1/2 size larger so, they definitely looked like clown shoes. I guess I could've asked that the Amber IRs to be reordered in a 6.5. I'm wondering, did you not like the muleskinners? Should I return them and go with the classics in Full Grain Leather instead of the Roughout?
@@themoor5498 I bought a second pair of the Muleskinners to make them the black waxed flesh.
What is the update on the patina of the dyed black pair?
15:38 I knew it! Your wife won’t be happy 😂
Nice looking boots I like the result. 👍
🤣🤣🤣
You have the sharpest eyes. Thank goodness it was the outdoor table
Red wing has a dies shoe cream in black that may be a good option for you for touch ups
Did you have to do anything to clean the dye of the eyelets and speed hooks?
After this use neutralising cream to finish the dye! It seals the dye!
❓Do you know the name of the dye that sits more on top? I like how the rub off can patina and I’m going to find a boot to do that on. Thanks! Great content.
I don’t really. This was a penetrating dye.
@@Bootlosophy they came out great!
Very nice end result. How has the dye lasted?
Good 👍 so far!
Nice! Do you think they would look even better with a black sole?
If the brown shoes through (tea core) then a brown sole goes pretty well. Has a nice dark roast coffee aesthetic.
Good video. 😅
Homemade Teacore👍
Teik, the Amber Boots look like they are sized larger than the black dyed boots. Is this an illusion?
Both 8D
How will you clean and condition boots now that you’ve dyed the boots?
😂😂😂😂😂 Good one!!!
You probably could have gotten the amber back by washing them good with dish soap and then re-condition.
I did. Multiple times. It was used as a display for a boot oil maker and totally doused to heaven in boot oil.
I hope you didn't stain your table, teik. wife's not going to be happy with that. :P
😂😂😂 I was able to hide it
@@Bootlosophy hah! knew it. your newspapers were there for a reason!
First
If you're so concerned about getting your boots wet while washing them, do you also refrain from using them in rain? I think your washing methods are a bit irrational. Rinse them under the faucet, lather and scrub them with soap and a brush, rinse all the soap off under the faucet, and dry them with a towel; same way you'd wash yourself. The leather can take it, and it makes sure all the soap is off, which is important. Water is what does most of the washing, and I bet the soap turning brown was because of the dye in the leather.
After washing leather is open to absorb all possible water, while in rain all conditioners help to protect it at least partially, even when soaked through, so I don't think this comparison is 100% fair.
that is not good....
How do I @ Nick @Stridewise ?
