Here comes the sun was my dad's favourite song - for his funeral, my brother put together a photo montage with this song as backing music. It was beautiful. Please also check out their song "Something" - it's from the same album, and was also written by George Harrison (their lead guitarist). I think you'll like it.
And that beautiful song is just the start of the greatest side of any album ever produced. I can never play side 2 of Abbey Road enough - its absolutely perfect....and what a coda to their entire musical existence. When you decide to call it a day - always finish on a high!!!!!!
One of the first things you should know is in 1964, the Beatles changed the culture of the free world.. Their global impact was immediate and un-paralleled. Before or since. Ok, you've heard 3 BEATLES songs now - only 224 to go! Without a doubt, the most prolific band ever. And there is so much variety in styles through their 8 year run 1962-1970. And then, there's all of the solo works after they broke up, especially Paul McCartney. Get busy, girl! ;-)
It makes me happy to see people younger than myself listening and being open to what was this band has to offer. And to this day it stands up to all the accolades they have received. By all means continue to extol the beauty of their music. We are all better for it. But love that you are open to it.
This song came when the Beatles were breaking up, and to me, that was a tragedy. They were just reaching their peak in musical creativity, and who knows if they could have gone far beyond what we hear here in this song? I think the same thing about all musical greats that ended sadly before their time. The world lost so much from this breakup. I don't think that they were nearly as good as solo artists.

George Harrison, the man singing this song, died 21 years ago today of cancer. I play this song every year in his honor. This year, I decided to watch all the reaction videos I can find for this one. Such a sweet, gentle soul George was. He was taken from us way too soon.
I graduated high school in 1970. In my senior year we went on the "Walk For Mankind", a 40 mile walk around the Twin Cities and we got sponsors to pay us by the mile we walked. We started in a football stadium and it was raining. Just before the start of the walk, the sun came out and everyone started singing "Here Comes The Sun". It was AWESOME!!!!! One of the most poignant moments in my life. And, yes, I did the entire 40 mile walk.

The concept of someone hearing The Beatles for the first time is something I can't wrap my head around. When I was four years old I caught a cold that had me sick in bed for a few days, and my dad would play the cassette for A Hard Day's Night just so I wouldn't get bored. (We didn't have a TV at that moment). So yeah, they've been a part of my life since forever.

Try out some of George Harrisons solo stuff after the Beatles split. He wrote some of the most incredible spritual music ever. Get hold of a copy of his album "All things Must Pass". It's extraordinary.

They do not realize how truly revolutionary they were. I was 10 years old when the Beatles came to North America. With them music changed forever. Of the 4 the most forgotten Beatle was George Harrison. Ozzy Osborne said in any other band Harrison would have been the lead member. They were just that talented. Practically all music today owes its existence because of what the Beatles caused to be introduced to the world. There may have been better bands around but they were the most influential.
George wrote this song with a 2-2-2-1 beat very common in Indian music, as in India not Native Americans. It makes it stand out and is one of my favorite songs.
My kids were born in the 80's and 90's and they listened to their own music over the years. The only thing they knew about the Beatles was there once was a band called the Beatles. Joke here: On the Simpsons, Lisa meets Paul McCartney and tells him "Paul McCartney! I read about you in history class!" Lol
