    Rear brake lock - probably one of the brake shoe anchor pins broken causing brakes to shift in drum & jam.
    Headlights - probably a short in the wiring for the headlights causing the breaker to trip and then it resets again

Relocate E brake. New flow master exhaust and mufflers. New gas tank. Rust repair. New posi trans. Shocks. Door cards. Rotors and brakes. Paint/clear coat. 5k, and she’s sorted nice.

      It's worth the cast of the valve cover gasket to find the casting number on the heads. Your looking for a "Camel Hump" mark on the frort and a casting number of 3782461 or 3782461X as factory "go fast" parts. But, it's all here. www.mortec.com/castnum.htm Not my website, just trying to help. Also, the money in the 327s parts means do not just trash that engine! Sell that stuff on ebay.

      It's a no brainer swap un bolt the grill and headlight housings and swap 73-75 no issues 76-77 have stacked square headlights and each model yr between 73-75 have different but interchangeable grilles even a LAGUNA S3 nose cone is a simple bolt in swap

    • @dragonslair59
      @dragonslair59 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've owned many cars gm a bodys and never had a fit and finish especially the nose. Its a trained monkey swap. Hell my 9 yr old son can do it and it would look good. A screw driver and basic set of hand tools is all it takes. You talk like it's some great feat of body work to swap a grille and shell and in this case the 1 yr only headlight buckets.

    • @PhaQ2
      @PhaQ2 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dragonslair59 Actually I was only complimenting the prior owners ability.
      Most people don't own simple hand tools. And lots of the people that do, find tasks like this to be beyond their confidence in their abilities. You and I know the process is simple. And can be done much easier by removing the entire front clip of a '73 elky and bolting it on, (which is likely the case here) than replacing the front facia.
      I do hope you find some ointment for that sore tooth, have a great day!

    The e brake cable should be above the trans cross member, the motor might be a 400 or 283 or 307, there is a casting # behind the left head on block

    • @deanking9185
      @deanking9185 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right about the brake cable should be above the transmission crossmember from what I can see it it's either 283 or 327 it definitely is not a 400. The 400 small block has 3 freeze plugs on each side and the balancer is like a normal balancer except half of it is machined out because it's externally balanced since it doesn't have a bouncer it has to be a 283 or 327 or bolts in the front of the heads for accessories as long as heads are original to that motor and the casting number on the back of the motor on a driver side should tell you what it is

    I haven't looked at any other comments so I don't know if I'm repeating someone elses comments or not, On the 74 Elcamino to get the headlamps to work I would keep clicking the dimmer switch to free it up and clean the contacts, I would also drop the gas tank again to see if there is a ground strap from the sending unit to the floor pan, The gauge won't work without it. Before I would write the transmission off I would change the filter and fluid and see if that clears it up for you. If it doesn't I think the T 200 and T 350 are direct replacement for each other. On your 80's Elcamino I would take the windshield out of the blue one and check the opening to see if it's solid, If it is drill the spot welds out to release the outer sheet metal from the inner roof structure then cut about a 4 inch wide strip of the outer sheet metal and weld it into the roof of the other one to repair the opening.

Patch up the rust and take her to Macco for some Pull Me Over Red and she'll be as good as new. With the parts from the blue one you'll have her ready in no time. Keep the rims on the red. A little polishing and new tires and the rims will look great. Welcome to Randy's ElCamino Workshop. And you got free ants. Keep them and sell them as starter kits for Ant Farms.

    Hey Randy go to Home depot or Lowes what ever one is near you and buy some extra shop vac hose so you can run the exhaust outside when you're working

    I just got off of the phone with my Uncle in Chattanooga . Tears of joy are running down my face as I write this. My Uncle Bart is a retired Pentagon cook, and has overheard the plans of the imminent UFO disclosure and how it relates to the El Camino! That’s right.
    Our intergalactic space brothers are on a mission of peace, and intend to start right there in Oklahoma at AAR HQ. They will be landing soon in that empty lot right next to the house. They wish to see the USA in a Chevrolet, and what better car to appear non-threatening than Randy’s El Caminos?
    Randy is a key component of their plans, and he has been previously kidnapped, probed, and hypnotized and given instructions to grab as many El Caminos as possible .
    Please join me in wishing the best of luck in this endeavor. Randy, AAR, and our intergalactic space brothers are working hard to bring about world peace in our time.

    Great Content Randy, I Think That’s A 327 In The ‘74, That ‘74’s Worth A Coat Of Paint, Maybe A Carb Rebuilt, Rear Brake Rebuild, Send The Old-Gal On Her Way, Make A Young Man A Nice Project Or Someone.. I’d Still Do That Engine Swap On That ‘79, Remove That Old Tired Original & Put That Cammed-Out One In It From The ‘85, Medal Work Or 3/4 Roof From The ‘85, Then Paint..

    Have you not seen "My name is Earl"? The red one is the coolest one, have Maaco do it pull me over -red, grille mesh same red or black, polish the wheels, new white letter tires, cheap car to tint, done.

    The El Camino is officially the new Crossfire for Randy, and I am here for it.
    Haven't finished the video yet but I reallllllly hope you just decide to swap all the good from the Blue elco in to the new 74.
    Also... 70/71 front end swap should happen on the new one.... and then you should keep it.

      70-71 front end won't fit, was a different generation than the '73-'77.

    Speedometer noise - remove the cable from the actual speedo and squirt some graphite lubricant from there. The cable will cause it work its way down.

    Randy:
    Many salutations!!! Very good move to pivot toward the Chevy El Camino and its GMC cousin the Caballero! As an 1980s kid, the interior trim on the A pillars inside of the 1985 El Camino brings back many childhood memories -- the greatest of which is whether the El Camino is a car or a truck? That question threw me for a loop for the longest time.
    I personally would love for Chevrolet and GMC to bring back the El Camino and the Caballero for the 2020s along with the station wagons that were commonplace throughout the 1980s; considering how much economic turbulence there has been, the time is right for the United States -- and the world -- to practice a bit of humility. You see, Randy . . . if serendipity were working in my favor, I would have an automobile library where I would be involved with maintaining the vehicles for the purpose of making it possible for people to partake of DoorDash and Insta-Cart along with their app entrepreneurial brethren similar to what you do on Auto Auction Rebuilds and what Tyler Hoover does on Hoovie's Garage; unfortunately, not having a supportive community to guide me through how to start a business has cost me dearly to where I might have no choice but to declare bankruptcy since I cannot get a consolidation loan nor steady employment to earn the money that convinces a lender to take a chance on me nor build the business credit to keep me out of this mess in the first place.
    I am also very concerned about the Federal Reserve's quantitative easing which seeks to monetize the national debt and reset the US dollar; I am also computing for that contingency. I am wondering which alternative currency I should choose . . . at any rate, while I am computing that, I am wondering something. I once watched a video where ChrisFix interchanged a steel flywheel for an aluminum one . . . you should give that some thought. I also heard that availing a smaller torque converter channels more torque from the engine into the transmission and quickens acceleration . . . something to consider since you are thinking about interchanging transmissions -- and remember that rear main seal as well!

    Randy has definitely come a long way working on these older cars. Definitely seems to be a lot quicker diagnosing and fixing issues.

    Get the code from the back left side of engine right before the bell housing and check it.
