    I’m a 58 yr old Englishman who got upper and lower metal braces for the first time ever on 08/11/23 (as my teeth have always been pretty straight) for a deep bite. Despite a powerchain being fitted to my lower teeth from the very first fitting appt., I have not had any sensitivity let alone pain at all but hate that I can no longer enjoy food as 1) there are loads of foods I can’t eat at all 2) the food that are left can still break brackets (a soft sliced white bread sandwich broke one of mine within 5 days!) 3) my bite blocks mean I have to shovel all my food two the only two points I can chew on at the back of my mouth so I don’t taste the food well and 4) I then have to clean the mess up on my braces afterwards. All this is just too much hassle and I hate the thought that my teeth will not look any different after 18 months because my teeth were already straight and no one notices a deep bite anyway (load of my friends have asked what on earth I am doing because my teeth looked fine!). I am therefore thinking I need to get my braces removed at my second monthly appt. on 03/01/24 and cut my losses.

    Great video! I didn’t realize I had an overbite until recently. It makes my profile look strange because my chin goes in a lot under my lips. I guess I would have worn my retainer and head gear more when I was a kid with braces.

    I think I have an overbite and it started to cause some jaw issues... My jaw makes popping sounds when I move it and sometimes aches. I was too scared to go to the dentist because of the pandemic but Im finally going for a cavity so Im going to ask about this when I go :/

      @@ThriveDentist 👋 Question
      I just got an amazing 👏 job from my dentist with 20 extractions then dentures...my natural bite , I had a slight overbite..not a overjet..lol..now the dentures I have doesn't have the overbite ..Could that be a reason I can't close my mouth good. I look in the mirror and see my teeth sitting straight on top of each other ....which is not what I'm used to. They look funny to me on the bottom THE top teeth are perfect 🥰 100 % And the bottoms hurt and seem to shift. Also on the bottom right ✅️ I wud call it a eye tooth , idk the # of tbat space...I have what appears to be a bone splinter or fragment popping thru and it hurts like the devil 🤘 Any suggestions I wud so appreciate. THANK U SO VERY MUCH

    Hi i am a current college student at Diablo Valley college and majoring in Biology. I want to become an ortho and have so many questions. I don’t know who to ask and can’t go to my family for help since I am the first to go to college. I would be planning to transfer to a 4 year University in 2021. First question would be, after the four year university, what would be my next step? When do I start looking into dental school and which is the best? I found your videos just last night and I LOVE THEM!! they are clear and easy to understand and entertaining. After watching your vlog, it motivated me to put in the hard work in school and it will all pay off once I am doing my dream job.

    What ap classes should I take to become an orthodontist, and what majors do you recommend?

    • @ThriveDentist
      @ThriveDentist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Oh, good question but unfortunately I don't know the answer to that as I didn't take any AP classes. I firmly believe that whatever you take you need to try your best and get the best grades possible. Actual degree/classes don't matter that much as long as you have the basics.

    • @Megustaytmucho
      @Megustaytmucho 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nathan Coughlin so your classes “don’t matter that much”, but they still matter correct?

    • @ThriveDentist
      @ThriveDentist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Megustaytmucho I don't want to give you false information so my best answer is I don't know. I know when looking at applicants for Ortho residency we didn't care about their undergrad courses. Also for Dental school, there were people from all backgrounds so I don't think it actually matters but I'm not 100% certain.

    • @zuzu6252
      @zuzu6252 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      So AP classes are for high school, I recommend subjects that you are good at and can score well on AP exams so you can get college credit. It can become stressful if you take on too many though. An important thing to note is that some dental schools don’t accept college credits from high school in the sciences. So for example if you were to take AP Biology and get college credit for it, you could potentially have to take it again in undergrad. So I would take english or statistics or something like that to get it out of the way so I don’t have to take it in college.
      As far as majors are concerned it really doesn’t matter as long as you take all of the dental school prerequisite classes. Most people applying to dental schools choose to major in a science but you can major in anything. In fact, it can make you more of a unique applicant if you major in something else. I’m currently a freshman in college and I’m majoring in business admin and minoring in spanish but also making sure i’m talking all those science prerequisites so it’s really up to you and what you’re passionate about. Hope that could help a little. :)

    an overbite is a problem with the jaw, so if I use braces I'm just moving my teeth not my jaw right?
    should I do jaw surgery to really fix it?

    • @ThriveDentist

      That's correct. Braces will just move teeth but surgery will move your entire jaw.

    question:
    My two teeth stick out when i open my mouth. Probably so that the teeth on top beside them can be seen from different angles. They're not considered significant because they don't show too much or arent too forward.
    If i get braces will they go more back and not be seen as much or is this something that cant really be fixed because ite the size of my top two teeth?
    Sorry if you already mention something like this.
    Oh and also im pretty sure i have an over jet.
