I don't have the Elites, but I have the regular Empyrean's and I could totally relate to you saying making a sandwich with these on and it feels like life is so much brighter :) I enhanced the phone experience with AQ Cobalt :)
I saw them in a convention literally yesterday, and i now i deeply regret not trying them out. Their booth just sat in the corner being absolute high class and exclusive looking, which kinda spooked my financially-challenged self away
If you are dressed half way nice and act politely, you can go into any high class location and listen to what they have. I've gone into stores and listened to hifi systems that cost well over $100k, and it's interesting and educational to listen to various types of speakers and headphones. The smart salesman out there will understand that even if you can't afford it now, you might someday down the road, and many are just enthusiastic about their products and music. It's also helpful to understand that while the super expensive setups sound nice, you can get some of that performance with a much cheaper system.
I bought mine second hand half price. They sound like pure magic. They make me want to find all the music I can and listen to it all. They make me want to lay in bed and stay up all night listening to them. They truly are all genre headphones. And while they may not be technically the best headphones they are the best listening experience. They are so comfortable, I could fall asleep on a 17 hour flight and not feel fatigued wearing them. The old owner messaged me to buy them back from me. He wanted the elites back after getting susvara. And frankly I don't blame him but I'll never give these up, I'll use them till I die.
this is why I like watching Zeos, his review is barely informative, he's just conveying the emotion and experience he has at the time. and for me, audio is about as much as the emotional experience as it is objectively sound good.
I still remember when a company wouldnt send you a set of speakers after you requested them, and instead of trashing them and reviewing a dozen other things, you went out and bought them and STILL gave them a great review. If anyone deserves a comped Flagship Meze, it's you Z.
Ha, good ol’ L337 days, I never got too into that, but one time, at band camp, a guy I went to school with, invited me to go with him to a “Internet cafe” of sorts, and when we got there, it looked like your old school, half CRT half flat screens, 2002 LAN party. Quite a vivid memory for me for whatever reason
I'm a simple guy. These headphones are out of my budget, but I am very satisfied with my Moondrops. Zeos' description of these headphones are how I feel about the Dusk. The Sparks aren't bad either, as a 11.11 deal I got them with the case for $90. I am no audiophile, but I do know that I like what I'm hearing.
I'm yet to try the Elite's but they are on my radar. I have the copper upgrade cable for the original Empyrean's (same as the one you have there) and they sound lovely; so well made. I also preferred the Alcantara pads with the original Empyrean with the stock or copper upgrade cable. However...I recently got the Silver (Plated Copper) Upgrade Cable from Meze and they really opened up the sound and detail without adding any hint of brightness. I actually much prefer the Leather pads with that silver cable - it really is quite a big upgrade to my ears. I bought them to use with the Elite's when I eventually get them but I really enjoy them on the originals as well. I would try them if you get a chance. It's relatively inexpensive since the headphones were free for you :) Thanks for the review - it's nice to see another confirmation that the Elite's retain the emotion of the Empyreans.
Can you tell me more about the copper cable and what it did compared to the stock and silver cable please? I am thinking of buying the Empyrean. I am looking for pure musical enjoyment. I have been abit obsessed with micro-detail lately when really I just want to get lost in the music.
I learned recently the limits of chasing technicalities with the LCD-5s I had and sent back. Detail matters sure, but if the tunning and comfort aren't enjoyable OTB its not really worth it for me. I kept going back to my Empyrean and LC-XCs which were a relief. I keep thinking about Susvara but get the sense it might be also a bit unfun, even if more resolving.
I’m going through the same thing. I got the elex, and then the ananda, and then the Diana phi and recently contemplating the susvara. This review makes me think about just selling what I have, getting these and just enjoying the music. Something in my brain needs to have the “best” instead of enjoying what I’m lucky enough to have.
I am going through this with the HE1000SE and Arya. HE1000SE are actually easier to drive, but are so revealing that you need to always listen to perfectly recorded music. The Arya are fun and musical in comparison with most things I throw at them.
@@chipsnmydip I'm still very much in the honeymoon phase for the Susvara, so it's a bit too early to tell overall preference. Funny, that you always come up with the Meze review when I just don't have the money for them... Meze Empyrean... Elite... The same story... I've got the money, spend it on other things and then you come with a review of a Meze headphone... Daaamn...;))) But I know, I am lucky to even affor the Empyrean used. Thanks for the review!
@@futureforward3153 Thank you for your reply! The thing that I keep hearing, that stax arent even like normal headphones and in a category all of their own, is something im extremely interested in. It would also be about a thousand dollars cheaper than the elites. Are you satisfied with your stax overall? Just talking about the sound here cause the setup would be a one time thing because i dont plan on moving around the house with them.
Focal in general has never been worth the money. They’re built horribly and have numerous qc issues. I usually laugh at focal owners when I see broken headbands on Reddit 😂😂😂
enjoying your channel A LOT! Need your opinion: which amp would you recommend to drive the Meze Audio Elites? I'm thinking McIntosh MHA200. Good combination? And which streamer/DAC would you add to this equation, if it was you? many thanks and keep killing it!
Request for advice. I have some SHP9500 + Syba DAC AMP and recently obtained DT 1990 PRO + Focusrite Solo for gaming (they were on sale ) It came to my attention that I cant properly push the 1990s And after comparing SHP9500 with DT1990 on both Syba and Focusrite I noticed that the SHP9500s sounded better (probably because they are being pushed correctly) I'm wondering if I should return the DT1990 or get a proper stack/DAC amp to push them correctly?
I'm not sure about the working up recommendation, Z. I started with $4K headphones and have later appreciated the value of some lesser priced headphones through the years. The same can be said about cars. I had a new Porsche a few years ago (life's dream) and was much as I love that car, it made me appreciate what the Mazda3 brings for the money.
'I don't care how headphone/speaker looks. all I care is sound!' well that's not me. aesthetics is 50% of the experience for me. when I put something on my head or place it in a room I have control over decoration, that thing better look good to me. AND sound amazing. more than Susvara or Utopia or Diana Phi, I want Elite
I found the Empyreans to sound rather basic and unimpressive, yet very enjoyable and easy like an HD650 for example, but still want to test these. If the technicals would jump closer to the price range and the existing strengths would remain then that would be damn nice.
I traded my Empyrean to an Elite recently. The basic and un-impressiveness make this headphone easy to listen for long period. I am lucky enough to have tried almost all the top tier headphones on the market, but I keep coming back to Empyrean because it is "basic". I would choose rice over caviar if I can only choose one food, it's not about good or bad, just what is conforming in the end.
@@MuhammadKharismawan not enough to really justify the trade give I was too lazy to sell to someone myself. However, if you are buying new, I'd go with the elite.
they really are super basic and unimpressive :'D I heard the empyreans and while they sound good comparing sound side by side to utopias the utopias were really special. like i see the empyreans as an upgraded version of hd6xx's you are so spot on with this, they are kinda neutral and very easy to listen to - which is what redeems them, i also compared the lcd4's and while i dont really like the sound they were also special in a way the empyreans are not in sound. the problem for me with empyreans is that you want them to sound like they look, but they dont. they dont sound bad by any means, i think they are better than the hd800's for my taste (and not really similar) but soundwise they should be priced around the same. Zeos tends to like neutral stuff already so he has a bias there. and these are really easy to gush over, like these are perfect easy listening for the average person who wants a 3500 pair of headphones without any complications or nuance. but to me he does a disservice with some of these reviews. Like i was super hyped to try the empyreans after listening to his review. and seriously hyped to buy them if they REALLY were THAT unique as their price bracket and design suggests. but at 3000-4000 the price is a little gross for the sound you get, in that i felt i was misled a little or there was some slight of hand going on. would i love them yes, would i say no to them definitely not, i would even manage to enjoy them at their greatly inflated price because in all of his hyperbole Z does get one thing right they are easy to listen to and stunning to own. do they look and feel premium and lovely yes. but i LISTEN to utopias or lcd4's and i feel like im forking out a fuckton more money than i should be for these - they just dont seem to be ambitious technically, you dont get that separation, clarity, quality of bass, detail. mostly because these arent trying to achieve it. if this is purely a luxury product review where hey they will cost X because you will get a great product in amazing packaging/quality gucci prada etc. that to me is actually more palatable and honest than telling me about how much effort they put into manufacturing this product and using that to justify the price - even if it does (which it doesnt). just feels a bit snake oily and dirty. you hit the nail on the head. and while this opinion may sound incredibly negative ill say i might still want to own a pair because there is a beauty simplicity and elegance to them still, but its hard to market a product by saying "these really arent that good but still kind of worth it if youre rich" and probably wouldnt get you a free pair from meze.
I just ordered a Singxer SA1 on Amazon. The only headphones I have are B&W P7. I want it, SA1, mainly for a preamp. I've got an Avantone CLA200 Amp & Tannoy XT8F towers. My Tannoy's have been in their shipping boxes about 2 years never used. Why? I can't afford this shit.
When was the last time you got lost, and I mean really got LOST in your music. Like the song ends, you open your eyes, and for a split a second, you don't know where you are, because a second ago you were floating in the music you were listen to. I've never had any experience like that before the elite. With the elite, I often start off listening to music while doing something else, but then slowly, I am seduced by the music. Entranced, I would come to mb 4-7 songs later, only to find myself stop doing completely w/e I was doing, I open my eyes, and for a split second, I would be lost. Like zeos said, the elite will not be the most technically amazing headphone, but I think the elite is the most enjoyable headphone.
Dude, this video kinda blows. You're checked out, and clearly biased. Also you don't compare these to anything. You're just seemingly unwilling to even bother trying to articulate how they sound anymore. Whats the tonality like? How do they compare to the empyreans? What's the resolution like compared to other Planar flagships? What headphones might you use more often over these?
@@FolstrimHori audiophile headphones would be over if meze did the construction, cables etc for a susvara or Shangri la, I would honest to God sell me car for that kind of headphone.

Based on everything I've heard about these, I still find it hard to believe that they'd be better for gaming than EQ'd HD800S. Without EQ tho, I could see how it'd be more immersive (better bass).
@@ZReviews I've seen several threads recently on: "best high-end cans for gaming?" I get it -- many young'ins aren't interested in home theater as they don't have a space for such (real estate is stupid expensive these days), so they're trying to find ways to be more immersed into the Metaverse.
@@asplmn I game on my meze elites...not on purpose I just started using them for everything. Sounds incredible. When playing games I have previously played for hours I'm hearing whole new sounds within the sounds.
The old hd800 has got way better technicalities and Sound than this overpriced romanian trash meze. If you like this Sound sig buy an used hd650 with tubes and some eq then you get a better lush listenning experience for the 10th of the price ..
@@sebanambrus9265 hD800s sounds horrible in low end than even the xm4s tws. No bass and simply horribly thin sounding. Arya and clears are way better than those bass less trash cans. Keep talking about technicalities and keep HPs that can't even produce decent low end which even a 150$ HPs can reproduce And yes, I heard HD600 and 650s. They don't even come close no matter how much you spend on amps. Why should anyone bother about some low end overhyped sennheisers that can't even come close to Sundaras and Edition Xs?
The problem with the end product is that they could produce the same metal stuff without milling. Tons less money and time (more money). Milling a block of metal to provide this little metal is a huge loss that can be solved with a press/form and in quality speak, a mill after. Purchasers pay this useless cost. Purchasers also pay for the useless box. R&D is what causes expensive costs in small companies. This company shot the costs up even more because they did things that don't provide a single benefit to the user just because they could. I bet this could have been done exactly the same for half the price, and it was upcharged because of the special care. It is a knowledgeable hipster selling a product. Sure, they did their work to find quality audio, but they went above and beyond to make a mount because why not.

I was wondering. You loved Edifier S350DB. How about S360DB?
Love your reviews, keep up the good work ! Have you tried the Emp II with the Singer SA-1 and how is the marriage ? Same question for the amp of the RME ADI-2 DAC FS ? Which one do you prefer ? Thanks !
Pink Floyd lost for words. Door slamming intro. I had similar reaction once with the Hifiman he6se, it was crazy....
this is the headphone ever
I absolutely loved them.
Funny, that you always come up with the Meze review when I just don't have the money for them... Meze Empyrean... Elite... The same story... I've got the money, spend it on other things and then you come with a review of a Meze headphone... Daaamn...;)))
But I know, I am lucky to even affor the Empyrean used.
Thanks for the review!
Now i dont know if I want these or the Stax L700 Mk. 2 with a good energizer.
Anybody have some recommendations?
@@futureforward3153 Thank you for your reply! The thing that I keep hearing, that stax arent even like normal headphones and in a category all of their own, is something im extremely interested in.
It would also be about a thousand dollars cheaper than the elites. Are you satisfied with your stax overall? Just talking about the sound here cause the setup would be a one time thing because i dont plan on moving around the house with them.
congrats, good review.
The sound is massive and the holographic imaging is turned up to 11 on these.
well whats the doug score?
If you have a figurine of Whiz (Wiz?) it must be very hard to keep from toppling over all the time.
So these headphones..compete with the TRI STARLIGHT 4’s ..as being the IEM’s version of the Elites?
I'm still shocked by the amount of plastic on Utopias
Focal in general has never been worth the money. They’re built horribly and have numerous qc issues. I usually laugh at focal owners when I see broken headbands on Reddit 😂😂😂
2:00 youre saying the entire wall of speakers is Schiit? Lol
enjoying your channel A LOT! Need your opinion: which amp would you recommend to drive the Meze Audio Elites? I'm thinking McIntosh MHA200. Good combination? And which streamer/DAC would you add to this equation, if it was you? many thanks and keep killing it!
I have the Elites and they are simply amazing!!!
What amp do you have?
Request for advice.
I have some SHP9500 + Syba DAC AMP and recently obtained DT 1990 PRO + Focusrite Solo for gaming (they were on sale )
It came to my attention that I cant properly push the 1990s
And after comparing SHP9500 with DT1990 on both Syba and Focusrite I noticed that the SHP9500s sounded better (probably because they are being pushed correctly)
I'm wondering if I should return the DT1990 or get a proper stack/DAC amp to push them correctly?
These or GL1200?
"Empyrean Isles", lovely album by Herbie Hancock. 👍
For some reason, last year I set a reminder on my phone to comment on this video today. Can't remember why.
Zeos' must be the voice I've heard the most in my life.
Not complaining at all.
So these are replacing your Peacocks?
Actually they sound different enough. Peacock are definitely more aggressive
Nice!! Have these or any been compared to the Hifiman Diva Pro? I haven't seen any review on them yet
Imagining $100K cash in that suit case
'I don't care how headphone/speaker looks. all I care is sound!' well that's not me. aesthetics is 50% of the experience for me. when I put something on my head or place it in a room I have control over decoration, that thing better look good to me. AND sound amazing. more than Susvara or Utopia or Diana Phi, I want Elite
I say that AND I sometimes believe it. I think how something looks affects how people hear a thing.
these look a little ridiculous on your head but great on a stand
Dollars to donuts which is the most worth wild purchase; these or the Buchardt A500s?
@@HangOnHangOff does that mean it doesnt change that much?
@@MuhammadKharismawan not enough to really justify the trade give I was too lazy to sell to someone myself. However, if you are buying new, I'd go with the elite.
they really are super basic and unimpressive :'D
I heard the empyreans and while they sound good comparing sound side by side to utopias the utopias were really special. like i see the empyreans as an upgraded version of hd6xx's you are so spot on with this, they are kinda neutral and very easy to listen to - which is what redeems them, i also compared the lcd4's and while i dont really like the sound they were also special in a way the empyreans are not in sound. the problem for me with empyreans is that you want them to sound like they look, but they dont. they dont sound bad by any means, i think they are better than the hd800's for my taste (and not really similar) but soundwise they should be priced around the same.
@@HangOnHangOff I am buying Meze tomorrow, like you said- if someone is buying new, he should go for the Elite. Should I ?
5:52 i do that daily at work (i mean not parts for headphones but im basically a machinist) so i know exactly what you mean :)
Where are the sound demos on Patreon? I’m completely lost on that
Click the link above, the Patreon app doesn’t seem to show it
There should be a pinned post that has all the links to all the places and things. Some people have a hard time on mobile.
26:25 according to my playlist you currently have 465 headphone and IEM reviews
How do they perform with tubes Z?
I was like ooh, those look nice, I wonder how much they are. Fkn christ they're 4 grand. I'll stick to saving up for sundara's lmao
How can you POSSIBLY be objective with a comp-ed set of headphones!
I guess they could name the next one "The Empyrean Turbo"?
lol zeos are you joking? 'i don't gush' yeaaaaaa ok. do you know who you are broadcasting this video to? we do watch your other videos, you know :P
Wow, gotta try these down the line
I wish the elite was anywhere NEAR my budget
What comes after the Elite? The Elite pro plus X.
So these vs peacocks? Obviously 2500 more, but out of curiosity?
Dude, this video kinda blows. You're checked out, and clearly biased. Also you don't compare these to anything. You're just seemingly unwilling to even bother trying to articulate how they sound anymore. Whats the tonality like? How do they compare to the empyreans? What's the resolution like compared to other Planar flagships? What headphones might you use more often over these?
Honestly having tried these (very briefly) I wasn't actually that blown away, built fantastically but too steep for sound quality imo.
That's what I understand the general consensus to be.
Excellent build, with sound quality that isn't nearly its match.
@@FolstrimHori audiophile headphones would be over if meze did the construction, cables etc for a susvara or Shangri la, I would honest to God sell me car for that kind of headphone.
@@gimeurfridchiken4615 oh god yes
You spoke alot of truth in this one
I don't like their look but I really want to try their sound
Xperia 1 III?
The other thing is, headphones sound better over time because of burn in. So imagine having these & they only get better.
Hello everyone im looking for a pair of iems that are good for the music of the carpenters and marvin gaye. Budget of $100. Also zeos can you make an updated video of your iem box.
Try the Thinksound Rain series. The wood does great things for female vocals. Great imaging.
step it up to $200 and go 7hz.
Wait do you have two musicians Pegasus’s???????
Three, they are breeding.
32:30 I think you said you can "pm me" but it definitely sounds like you said you can "pee on me". Would you like to clarify your position? I may consider increasing my tier..
Love you big z
These or Stax?
These for usability
These
yeah they look amazing, but sound?? i will go with crin assessment
Crinacle is as bad as Zeos
Based on everything I've heard about these, I still find it hard to believe that they'd be better for gaming than EQ'd HD800S. Without EQ tho, I could see how it'd be more immersive (better bass).
Is this really the argument the kids are having these days? $4000 vs $1500 headphones for gaming?
@@ZReviews I've seen several threads recently on: "best high-end cans for gaming?"
I get it -- many young'ins aren't interested in home theater as they don't have a space for such (real estate is stupid expensive these days), so they're trying to find ways to be more immersed into the Metaverse.
Keep talking about technicalities and keep HPs that can't even produce decent low end which even a 150$ HPs can reproduce
And yes, I heard HD600 and 650s. They don't even come close no matter how much you spend on amps. Why should anyone bother about some low end overhyped sennheisers that can't even come close to Sundaras and Edition Xs?
As an owner of a klipsch hp-3 I feel heartbroken :(
@@futureforward3153 I know right :) still that's what audio journey is all about I think
I'm half convinced this is a secret ploy by Meze to earn all the Z brownie points and undermine all their competitors.
Haha, and it works
Zeos: I don't want to go around putting headphones on people. Could go to jail.
Me: I would accept headphone pats.
Sooooooo, hi Zeos
Maybe someday... But I l still like my 99 classics.
