One of the ways my daddy gave me a Christmas gift was his favorite veggie in seed form like white radishes n khlorabi. But he also gave me 100 cherry tomato seeds cuz they were my fav. Always given in Christmas card. He did that from my first garden at 13 years old til the year before he died when I was 60. Such a great memory😊
I LOVE the loaded Bible idea. Also add dried pressed flowers for another personal touch. At an estate sale I purchased a recipe book where the original owner had put in personal notes about the recipes or how they changed them up. It was so precious.
Your book: I wish I'd have found this book when I began gardening. It would have saved me from going down many rabbit holes. I don't recall where, but I came across it, checked it out at the library, loved it and bought it - it truly is a wonderful resource :)
Oh Jess, I couldn't resist that color of Greenstalk! 🤣 It went in my cart right away! It's gorgeous!! Thank you for the list, great idea! Hope you and yours stay safe and warm!
You just gave me the best gift! seeing you enjoying your tea in handy work just warms my heart to no end! ❤☕️ I’d like to add one of the best gifts you can give an aspiring gardener is a link to the roots and refuge channel!
I also think it would be fun to just give your family and friends a little homemade coupon that says this is redeemable for me to come help you make your garden bed or plant your garden. Whatever it takes to help you grow your own food.❤
Great video! My husband has been asking me for a wish list for Christmas-wonderful ideas. Just a comment on the Duluth overalls- I think they run really large- I am lucky to live near a retail store, so easy to exchange, but if in doubt-order smaller size (You might even flatter recipient with your choice :) Just a heads up.
Another book I would encourage as a gift is Seed to Seed by Susanne Ashworth. Saving seeds is an essential part of gardening, not just for food security (remember when we couldn’t buy seeds) but also because the seed you save are acclimated to your microclimate. .
Jess I just wanted to say I am LOVING the hair ❤ You absolutely made the right choice! I feel like you have become even more yourself since embracing the natural, it’s amazing. You seem so much more comfy in your soul, it has been so inspiring.
I got my wife the Hori Hori knife and she really liked it. I will keep an eye out for your book for beginners. Thanks for all you do and the love and time you put into these videos. God bless you and your entire family. All the best!
I love my Duluth coveralls! I have 5 pairs of the shortalls that I wear in rotation through the summer (I got 'em on clearance); they've practically become my uniform. I have the navy daisy ones, and every time I wear them in public I get compliments, to which I reply with giddy glee - "AND they have 12 pockets!" I use almost all of those pockets at some point during the gardening season; the hammer loop is great for carrying a fistful of landscape staples, the back pockets are where my gloves go, I carry a pencil and Sharpie with me to label things, and the zippered pocket is where I put my cell phone. Also my pocketknife, plant ties, a pair of clippers . . . Add to that, they're super comfy and durable. I've worn the first pairs I got for nearly three years now, and they're just starting to look worn. I hope Duluth always carries them, but just in case, when my favorite colors go on clearance I buy a couple pairs to squirrel away for later. This Christmas, I'm getting some of my nieces and nephews a few packets of seeds, as Grandpa prepared a flower bed for them this fall. We spent some time Friday poring over Baker Creek's catalogue together, so I could have some idea of what they'd want to grow.
I found beautiful herb label on metal stake for my sister. That was years ago. When my youngest was about 10 we cut art foil into the shape of maple leaves, embossed veins on them, then strung on a garland for her. I decided to fold over the edges even though it was very soft metal.
I call it yard candy all the things that I collect or my family and friends have given me over the years for my yard and my garden. I call it yard candy..❤❤❤
I live in zone 6. l get so disappointed that stores take down their garden items. It doesn't matter if it is not an "active" gardening season, I love to shop 12 months of the year for garden items.
I went to dollar tree a couple months ago and grabbed some seeds went to check out and they were only charging a couple cents. I thought it was a mistake and didn’t want to cheat them, so I questioned it. They took my seeds away and would not let me buy them. I was so disappointed as I wanted those seeds.
I like my soil knife from AM Leonard. I used this for years when I worked in landscaping at a zoo. It still is in great shape. I did invest in another model they had.
I buy a few garden center gift carts so my garden friends and family can go in spring and buy what they want and need. If my family wants a new garden book or cook book, I tell them that that book will be a gift under the tree so they don't need to buy it.
My sister gave me a personalized tumbler with individual pictures of my garden flowers in a grid pattern on one side and a garden saying on the other. I think of her as well as my garden every time I use it!😊
I just got two of your vegetable garden books; one spiral for getting dirty and taking notes, one for relaxing with. I'm new to vegetable growing, grown flowers from seed but been years. The GreenStalk is making it possible for me to garden with my abilities challenges. My friend set it up for me this year and didn't accept my location designation, to a realistic location by the most used door and water spiket.
Thank you for talking about meaningful presents - true gifts. I rarely watch christmas gift videos- but I trusted you would have a focus on giving over consumerism
When it comes to cookbooks I have 2 suggestions, both by Alice Waters one is called Fruits and the other is Vegetables. Alice is the one that inspired me to marry my foodie self to my gardener self. Her restaurant Chez Panisse is world renowned. She is a pioneer in the clean organic eating and featuring heirloom varieties! I love her, and her cookbooks are wonderful , leaning strongly on Mediterranean influences and some Asian cuisine. Highly recommended!
I live in S Florida and have a bunch of the Duluth short overalls, absolutely love them! They are so comfortable, have tons of pockets, and when they get dirt on them it comes right out- my older ones look as good as the newer ones. Roo aprons and red gorilla buckets are great ideas too, use mine all the time.
The best gift was that last 30 seconds of your outro. You have the greatest gift of thoughtful speech of anyone I know. Happy Gift-giving, dear girl. ❤
Thank you ordered your book. Already have the planter. I just bought 2 over-alls and pray they will fit over my hernia’s. Gotta get outta here soon as am buying my own gifts. Loved this video. Hearts and Flowers coming your way. ❤️💐
I saw something on Facebook that said the best gift for plant people is not more plants, but pots and I agree 100%. I would love to get medium and large-sized pots. I love the Birdie's Beds (I'm also an Epic Gardening affiliate, lol). I'm waiting to see how they hold together over the Midwestern winter. A garden book that I really like is The Layered Edible Garden by Christina Chung. She really leans into permaculture and encourages you to think long term when it comes to growing food.
Great video! Such great ideals! I have 2 greenstalks and love them. Apparently, so do birds - one made a nest in an upper pocket with my lettuce in and hatched 3 babies. I had to rethink watering it so I would not disturb the family. I saw the newest color and thought of my daughter. She does not garden but is trying to convince her.
I personally like the little garden signs with sayings on them to add to my garden. I place them at the ends of the beds or where I can. And your seed box - containers were missing and not all in the same direction. AAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!. LOL
The biggest places where the greenstalk would shine, IMO, is a bright window when one can't grow outside and for balconies/urban backyard. With the lazy susan thing for the bottom, could go by once each hour to turn it a little bit. I have a bay window that I would grow herbs in if I had one. I'm going to second the cobra head weeder, as well. It will do good for dandelion, clover, and creeping buttercup.
Thank you so much Jess for this list!! Great ideas!! I love the "loaded bible" idea!! Going to definitely gift a couple out!!🙏❤️. ( I also am ordering some coffees and loose leaf teas from Beulah!! Take care and God bless you and your family always!!🙏❤️🙏
1) yay! Love lists like this. 2) already bought the magenta Greenstalk and a bunch of accessories, took a chance and used ROOTS10 lol. Going to do winter experiments with it in my backyard igloo. 3) GIRL! You hair is fab, so on point! LOVE IT! Hope y’all had a great Turkey day ❤Donna Jean, Quincy, MA
I heard you say that you have a Wilson family background. So do I! My grandfather was a Wilson from Cynthiana, KY. Not sure of their origins. Funny! One of my favorite tools is the soil scoup. It is a hand held shovel with a serrated edge in the shape of a scoup. Great for planting containers!
I just saw that green stalk has these mini greenhouse clip-ons for seed starting! They would make a fun stocking stuffer for someone who already has a green stalk.
You should have viewers send you painted rocks and use them in the walkway or something like with the irises. That was a really good idea with the irises.
I’ve been hitting up Walmart’s clearance isle for 50% -75% off garden stuff like mole repellent, fungus sprays, tons of fertilizers, etc. My favorite time to shop for the fertilizers for next garden season! I’ve also found fruiting trees/bushes on clearance at Lowe’s in late October here in zone 6.
I have an opinel garden knife on my wish list, and some new felcos. This was fun to see how many items I already have: Greenstalks (that magenta!!! I really don't need any more...), the seed packet box (3 - where I also put my sticker collection)), cobra head weeder, hori hori, metal raised beds, and the rare seeds catalog (among others). I'm not allowing myself any more books until I purge some of my tomes from my collection that are not active. I would add a good pair of garden utility scissors. This was fun, and now I'm wondering, where IS my hori hori knife???
Great recommendations! You have amazing restraint. That new Razzleberry Greenstalk color had me at hello. I ordered that bad boy so dang fast, hell or high water couldn’t stop me.
Migardener has a big sale going on right now. I would also say your book on first time homesteading and also Rosemary Gladstones's books on medicinal herbs are both books I use often.
Just a heads up that Luke is offering big discounts on seeds, seed starting materials & soil amendments, et al through this Black Friday weekend at MIGardener. Most of my seeds come from there and are already much cheaper than others. So with the coupon code, theyre practically a steal.
my favorite seed companies are Seeds for generations/MI gardener/Botanical interests/Territorial (garlic)/some times Hoss/ and Baker creek!!! and i have most of the books Jess mentioned (I read cookbooks cover to cover/so I am weird) anyway to each our own!!
Hi sweetie, love the color of those canvas coveralls. Hey.... wish u wld bring the green stalk 2 yr store. They do not send 2 Canada yet! I've been waiting since 2018!
Oh! the volume is high! Not complaining, just saying. That chapters thing some people do on their videos. I don't know how it's done but it would be useful on this video.

maybe if you have young kids..there own gardening tools like a kit so when you go out or if they have their own spot..they have their own gardening tools and gloves ect
I didn't know that you had put out a book! So far my gardening experience has been pretty bad. I'm hoping that reading your book will help something click to help me be a better gardener. Thank you Jessica. I'm watching your video right now. I do have that seed box. LOL!

For Hanukkah last year, my daughter gave me a mug that has the caption “Proud Plant Parent,” with a picture of a plant on it.

Awww! What a thoughtful post, Jess!!
Such a Beautiful Insightful Lady🥰💚 Wonderful thoughtful gift ideas💝 Thank You!!!
Great gift ideas. I especially liked all of your ideas for the new gardener.
Shepherd Hooks...for wind chimes, bird feeders, hanging baskets,etc...❤😅
Haha. Love Cook Eat just sold out on the big A, 48 minutes after you posted and just as I tried to put it in my cart. That's too funny.
My son bought me a GreenStalk for Mother's Day about 4 years ago. I bought your book about the same time. ❤❤❤
Have you considered looking for a store that is mainly gardening? They don't close. I find these local places better than ANY chain store.
they do that here in my area too in Florida and we are year round gardeners..they actually throw away seeds after june or so
I went to dollar tree a couple months ago and grabbed some seeds went to check out and they were only charging a couple cents. I LOVE your hair!!! I love that you are embracing your natural color. ❤❤
Oh, I also did that for my friend's birthday one year! Went to her house and planted her a raised vegetable bed!
I have both your books and absolutely love them.
I agree your book should be on this list I have it and love it
*JUST BEAUTIFUL PARABÉNS PELA PRODUÇÃO VOCÊ FICO LINDA💯👏🏻*
This is the first I have heard of your patreon and I have watched every video since February!!!

Cash is so much better than gift cards. What a great gift ideas! The recipient is gonna be thinking about the giver while they're in full hygge mode!

Excellent list. The organizer and seed money is a really good idea. I'd add a local sowing/planting calendar or other helpful guide too I think.
Thank you for sharing this Jess! 💚

You said 5 years and…..😮 what?? Where has that time gone? 🤦♀️🤦♀️😊
Hello from outside Springfield, Ohio.
Do you have old videos on the freeze dryer?
Hey, Jess!
Where is your hurricane helene support ????
Hi Jess!!
I tried to snag those gardening overalls but they’re almost all sold out already… I think you may have started something lol
Hobby Lobby has the photo boxes for 14.99 regular price year round.
Jess, i clicked on the peapod necklace in the video description and says page not found 😢... perhaps it isnt available in Canada?
link to the pea pod necklace does not work Jess..
Thank you for letting them know, you may be the reason it's working for me now.
Try it again, I just did it and connected to just that item.
I was looking for the overalls ... there are quite a few different styles, and I can't tell which ones you have. Insulated or uninsulated? But kther than that, there are "gardening" "fire hose" "double flex" and "flexpidition" ... which oonneesss !?!?
Uninsulated! These are the gardening ones
@RootsandRefugeFarm THANK YOU 🥰
maybe if you have young kids..there own gardening tools like a kit so when you go out or if they have their own spot..they have their own gardening tools and gloves ect
I didn't know that you had put out a book! So far my gardening experience has been pretty bad. I'm hoping that reading your book will help something click to help me be a better gardener. Thank you Jessica. I'm watching your video right now. I do have that seed box. LOL!
Hi Jess 👋 Grow Cook Eat book link is incorrect! The link posted is for the hori hori!
Oops thank you I’ll fix it
Where is the Greenstalk info please 😊
2cd hello cousin
What kind of mug is the one you are using in this video? The shape is very feminine!
