When I watched "The Bullet Train" at a Japanese movie theater in 1975, I didn`t recognize that minitures of bullet trains were used in this footage. It`s quite amazing!
Taken out of context, if you know anything about the pressure drivers are under to stay on schedule over there, this clip feels like it could be just another day on Japan's rails. XD
Ordered the Blu-ray off the back of this clip and the original trailer - was not disappointed. I'm surprised that a 2h 30 movie could be this suspenseful and gripping the whole way through. Also, the miniatures are fantastic and the shots of the 0 Series are gorgeous.
CGI can very well compete with models if done right. But the Bullet Train movie with Brad Pitt, although based on a Japanese novel, was a film made by American filmmakers for an American audience, both of whom have zero clue about trains, consequently it was totally unrealistic (trains dashing through tight corners, people standing on top of the train next to the high-voltage catenary, trains occupying the same track with ATC apparently doing nothing, one train miraculously lifting up another and with no severe structural damage to itself, and so on and so forth).
@@DaneelroPerhaps the real question is: Did David Leitch, the director of Bullet Train, even wanted realism in the first place? Given the cartoonish and outlandish tone of the story and action, realism doesn't seem to bother him that much in the first place.
At the time, the Japanese National Railways refused to cooperate in filming a Shinkansen explosion movie, and as a result miniatures were used in the filming. In Japan, when it comes to special effects, the image of Toho is strong, and its rival, Toei, was not very good at special effects.

We shall all bow before the winner of this race to the bottom… Or maybe wait for Portugal and Italian entries. But I’m pretty sure someone stole the tracks to resell the scrap metal and nobody even noticed schedules got worse than they already were… Thanks neocapitalism, thanks the European Union, you sure can turn anything to sh1t better than a pig bowel movement …
I don't understand a whole lot of Japanese or know about trains or BulletTrains but I do know that you're not supposed come flying through a junction exchange at a million miles per hour lol
You'd certainly never guess that they used models rather than the real thing could you 😁 Actually, I presume it must have been made with at least some cooperation from Japan Rail, perhaps proving that they do have a sense of humour 😁
There was a device on the train, if It went under 80 kilometres per hour, it would explode. It’s similar to Speed, which is a film that came out later.
So this is a film about a train that has to keep its speed below 80kph, and if its speed drops below 80 a bomb goes off? Should have been called The Train That Couldn't Slow Down!

The care that went into those miniatures is quite amazing. Just look at the catenary wires. Must have been quite the project to build
i only noticed when it went over the switch
Yah it's very obvious on small screen like in 0:58 the trains are wigly
Practical effects and minimal CGI did look amazing. That's how 2001 Space Odyssey & First Star Wars Trilogy remain classic.
I look at model trains a lot so I immediately feel something is off during the Shinkansen footages

Still a better movie than the recent Bullet Train one with Brad Pitt! CGI can never compete against real models!
Why are you comparing the two? Other than that they're both set on a bullet train, they don't have anything in common?
They're entirely different movies

Why do i have vibe from movie Speed. I guess Speed was made on this story, only instead of train, you have bus.
If a train switched to the other track using the points at that speed, I'm pretty sure it would derail.
In germany it happens all the time....and nearly with every train.😬
Just a normal day in Japan when they dont want the trains to be late.

I was thinking a different bullet train movie
The Japanese version of Speed
Speed is the American version of The Bullet Train.
It says conductor in the info, did something happen to the engineer/train operator?
They look like model trains
They are. They had to use them as, it would probably not be a good look if they really had an incident.
You'd certainly never guess that they used models rather than the real thing could you 😁 Actually, I presume it must have been made with at least some cooperation from Japan Rail, perhaps proving that they do have a sense of humour 😁
Фильм не смотрел, но вопрос - а чего они линию не отключили, без электричества он бы остановился всё равно)

Is it that it'll explode if it goes under a certain speed?
YES
They were on 2 septrate tracks why didnt they keep going

Movie technology was way behind times but a lovely movie nevertheless
And I rather doubt that the track circuits would clear to allow the points to be moved *that* quickly after a train had passed 😰

Why didn't they cut the power supply ??
There was a device on the train, if It went under 80 kilometres per hour, it would explode. It’s similar to Speed, which is a film that came out later.

Bcoz it's a Shinkansen.

JAPAN NO.1
1 min beide züge fahren in die selbe richtung!
So this is a film about a train that has to keep its speed below 80kph, and if its speed drops below 80 a bomb goes off? Should have been called The Train That Couldn't Slow Down!
Actually the title was "The Great Shinkansen Explosion" 新幹線大爆破 (Shinkansen Daibakuha)
