Happy new year guys n girls❤
2024 was my worst year ever (even made a lil vid on it)
But one of the positives was more home assistant tinkering🫶🏼❤️
Thanks to you & other TH-camrs

Merry Christmas Pethaps next year an idea for a video would be investigration the lowest power hardware / gpu you can get away with for using ollama with homeassistant.

    • @GlennPierce
      @GlennPierce 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

Ideally I would like a really simple small AI model that deals with natural language commands turning on / off devices reporting temps etc all related to a smart home. This should be able to be run locally on lesser hardware. It would fallback to cloud for general purpose questions. So maybe
Homeassistant sentence handling -> Local small smarthome model -> CharGPT
If the local model was good enough obviously get rid of homeassistant sentence handling.

The biggest improvement to HA to massively grow the user base would be the addition of Homey Pro style flows, ie the ability to create advanced automations using a drag and drop visual interface. That would make it easier for all users but especially for non programmers, making HA more accessible to everyone. The extra users would also encourage more manufacturers to directly support HA make the platform more reliable for all.

That is actually a really great idea!
I've got a 2 year old at home & I think I might give this a go for her birthday.
I doubt she will complain at a whole week of presents instead of one lousy morning.
Thank you for making my home smarter & myself smarter too! ⭐

Lewis, I don't understand what you mean with timer entities in HA. They've been available as helpers for as long as I can remember (?)

Had exactly the same question. Timers exist as helpers and entities otherwise I have some very odd HA install O.o.

Thanks Lewis! Out of curiosity, are you still using Minimalist for your mobile dashboard or are you now using the 'new' dashboard capabilities released last yer? If you have made a change, perhaps you can consider publishing an updated 'how to' on dashboard building. The two you did for Minimalist and Mushroom cards were very useful for people like me.

Local voice with the preview is a bit slow on my 4 thread NAS. I have a 12 thread server with plenty of RAM, can I offload the local voice processing to it somehow?

Would love an easier way to update a scene. I often click a button on a dashboard to apply a scene, but then make small changes using the controls for the involved lights (still on the (mushroom) dashboard). Now, If I want to update the scene's settings (ie the value of the devices included in the scene), my fastest route to achieve this is:
    get onto a computer
    go to the scene
    make a copy (duplicate)
edit the duplicate, copy it's yaml definition
    go to the original scene
    edit as yaml
paste and fix top two lines
A lot of steps instead of a simple "Update scene with the devices' current settings".

I don't get Dashboards. Why do they collapse and expand by "row" when everything is laid out in Columns? Seriously, if Dashboards where laid out in Rows, then new rows would start below the tallest section in the previous row. But instead, it's laid out ensuring sections below directly abut sections above of that column. Very confusing. I don't use.
