- Amazon have now added an automatic offload feature to their devices which can delete apps by itself. Here's what the feature is, how it works and how to turn it off.

After thinking about it, I wonder if when an app is offloaded, it still remains in your apps. Then when clicking to open it will ask to reinstall the app.

Yes, it’s so annoying. Apps I use find their way in the offloads. Go to open the app as it’s just sitting there on my homepage and have to wait for it to download and install again.
Offloading is now off, hopefully this will all stop
Amazon are making their devices less pleasant to use with every update.
I turned the offload feature off three days ago. This morning I discovered it did not matter because a lot of my apps had been off loaded overnight. Most of them had been side loaded to an attached drive. I find this intrusive behaviour to be invasive of my privacy.

Thanks for keeping us informed. For a while now I've tried to keep a list of the apps that I've downloaded, mostly because of having firesticks in several locations. But one thing that Amazon has me wondering about with this automatic offload shite is this: What happens to the apps that people had to sideload, and aren't available through the Amazon app store? If they're offloaded, will Amazon save those, or will you have to hunt them down again? This could be very time consuming, if not impossible to acomplish, if you can't remember how or where, or from who you got them.
It doesn't offload the third party apps.

I have extended the Firesticks memory with a Memory card and installed loads of Apps onto it....I went away on holiday for 2 weeks...and when I came back... all my Apps had been removed...I could reaccess these by saying yes to downloading again...but guess what...it downloaded to the internal memory and not the Usb card....So I had to uninstall the App and re-install....(.However I missed the notice you mentioned above..). Then for some reason....I decided to Wipe the stick and do a Factory reset...No idea why...must have been bored !!! .All my Apps on my extrrnal Drive...weren't recognised...I had to do a Full reformat And add the Apps one by one again....The next day I had your message turn up on the Screen...
I can Strongly Advise ...Turn it Off....otherwise your Apps willl be useless..
Amazon have removed several apps on my Firestick 4k - I’ve turned off this setting but apps were still removed!
No sideloaded apps were removed though, only apps that are available via Amazon - interesting 🤔

That would be app archiving. Amazon Fire tablets do the same, but only with apps available from the Amazon app store. That's why your sideloaded apps aren't deleted - Amazon can't delete them with app archiving
They have found some apps that were stealing personal data, that had made it onto their appstore.
Why doesn't Amazon give you the option to uninstall their crap, like you mentioned.
I have to keep clearing the data on these useless preinstalled apps

Would it be possible to plug the firestick into a PC or laptop and delete the preinstalled files that way....

I check my device and this update off loaded Downloader, not happy. Thanks to this channel I turned off feature and reload Downloader.

Can you please do a video on the best movies app to download, Cinema HD is pretty good, but lot of the films either have no streams at all or the streams just don't load (buffering) or it says playback failed. I'd love a new movies and series app that's really reliable 🙏😊

I saw this about 3 weeks ago,I understood what it meant but didn't know what to do knot being tech savvy,so I turned the stick off. Just got this today
The apps that have been offloaded have a small symbol in the corner of the icon so you realize it, and when you click on the app icon it automatically redownloads. That allows you to see which apps have been offloaded from the home or apps screen without going into settings.
I have 2 2nd gen cubes, 1 3rd gen cube, and 2 4K sticks installed in my home. 'Offload' is installed on all of them now, and it occurred in waves. The 3rd gen cube was just updated about an hour ago and added it.
I personally don't like the feature. Part of this was because I was blindsided by it's addition on one of my 4K (which is in a guest bedrm in my house). I didn't know of the new setting until I turned on that TV and the pop up appeared when I was making sure the firestick was current (with updates) and running smoothly for a guest that was coming to visit (and has no knowledge of how firesticks work). Luckily I saw it and was able to reinstall all the apps and turn the feature off.
The main reason I don't like this setting is because I install the apps I want, and do so knowing there is limited space. I also try to keep my fire devices running smoothly (by cleaning them regularly, and keeping them properly updated) I don't want or need that type of assistance from Amazon.
-If Amazon is really wants to improve their fire devices, and make them more user friendly. They need to change the home screen and allow it to be customized by users. I realize they want to collect money for ads but they could compromise (maybe by putting the ads on a small chyron which the user can put either on top or at the bottom of the screen). Being able to customize the home screen makes it easier for people (especially kids and elderly folks) who just want to turn on the TV and see what they can access and select same. SORRY FOR DRIFTING OFF TOPIC

Had it turned off for a few weeks then turj the stick on and they have offloaded the stuff on my usb drive all my sideloaded stuff has gone so I don't think it matters if its turned off they seam to be able to still offload them somehow, absolutely raging that they removed all my sideloaded stuff from a ubs drive.
yes got 1 fire tv and 2 fire tv stick, all 3 got the offload update
It hasn’t happened on mine yet although when I started it up it did have that up I just clicked back and everything was fine checked what you said and there was nothing. Ron.
How does it know if app data monitor is turned off.
First, I don't have a Fire Stick as yet. I'm still in the deciding which version I want to get.
If there was only a DVR with off-air antenna input included, then that would be the one.
I want to be bale to record off-air channels not (it would need a tuner tor two) and would like to set schedules to record off internet channels.....
That being said, if the stick is actually based on Android, which I believe it is, then this new function of off-loading appears to be Amazon's version of the already, long time option on Android, called,
"Remove permissions if app is unused." "remove"... "off-load" same thing.
I discovered this "feature", which, by the way, is enabled upon install ,when I discovered apps disappearing when I may not have used them in a while but still wanted them on my smartphones.
I literally have to go to every app and disable it.
It's a pain, but I suppose that in the rare instance, it's ok to have on.

Oh, I forgot. There is also another option on Android (for smart phones anyway) that has been around for a long time.
But only some apps are eligible.
That is, when there's an external SD card installed, you can "move" the app over from internal memory to the SD card and the app still works.
What I've noticed of late, however, is that more apps are NOT eligible for this option! I haven't researched into why this is the case.
Again, not having any Fire Stick version, I don't know if any of them can have an SD card installed or not and if some can, what options/functions are available for them.

Peyton even give me an on and off switch they took my downloader they took my TV mate it took a bunch and they would not come back it took me hours to delete and then bring them back and upload them again it is a pain
i think even if i choose max 3 -4 ott the storage gets filled up so quickly. this is a welcome feature but honestly nobosy cares.
I have noticed that my firestick has been crashing and restarting quite more in the last 3-4 months
I have the newest fire stick 4k max and this option has been disabled. Called Amazon customer service and they said it has been removed 😳

on the new firestick there is no way of turning of auto offload when I click on storage
2:00 "what if ... you can't remember what apps it removed?" Well it Offloads them rather than removing them completely. They still show in Manage Installed Applications, so you don't need to remember, do you? I have the feature on my Firestick 4k (original), and I quite like it. I do agree though about Amazon apps like Amazon Kids, Amazon Music, and Amazon photos; I want to offload them but it won't do it.

It depends. I happen to have many important 'Bookmarks' for websites that I find extremely useful.
Many of those websites I found only based on miscellaneous articles I read or videos I watched. I would never be able to remember where I got them, if they disappeared!
Additionally, I have certain changes I made within the Silk browser 'settings' (recommended, based on readings and video research).
If I UNINSTALLED this app, I would LOSE all of this important info!! This would be a very big deal to me, indeed!
However, if you have never bookmarked anything in the Silk browser, nor adjusted anything in its Settings ... then it would be no issue for you. When you reinstall it, it would just be a fresh version of what you had before.
Think of your smartphone and whatever browser you normally use. I bet you have a multitude of Bookmarks that you've saved over time. Sure, maybe you don't use them as much as some people, but I bet you'd hate to arbitrarily lose them all (short of it being your specific intention to do some 'housekeeping'), right?
I dont if this is a common thing, but on a separate note, every single time i load my stick the amazon kids has cached to 10.92 mb , its never used and its the only thing that does this out with apps i use , anyone get the same ?
It’s a feature that’s 5 years too late. If all the newer devices are gonna be coming out with 16 gb of storage then it’s not really a problem. Had this on my 2 gen cube about 2 weeks, turned it off straight away. A good solid 9.0 for the joke. World class👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I have only one 3rd party app and while using it, it's the only one that I get warnings about low storage and asking me to remove apps which can at first be ignored, but shortly afterwards, you get a critical low storage warning that you have to go into the app menu and supposably remove apps as if by magic the storage has dropped to less than 500mb, whereas I know that I have at least 2gb. The only way to sort it, is to reboot the firestick. If anyone else is suffering this issue or knows how to stop it, it would be appreciated as it only happens with the 3rd party app and nothing else as I'm sometimes several hours on yt, yet I can get this issue anywhere from 30mins to a couple of hours of using the app.

Just come across this BUT when I clicked on Continue, my screen went blank. Took out FireStick from HDMi and tried a different HDMi but still got a blank screen! How can I get my Apps back?

I turned the offload feature off a month ago and today I got a msg with a new screen where amazon is selecting apps for me to delete. The screen keeps trying to force it's way onto my system. Has anyone else had this happen? Shout out.

The offload is only for official apps. Yes it should be available for the Amazing apps as well but it's getting more like you are only renting the device and have to do what amazon wants!
