There is a combination calculator online that lets you choose if order matters, if items can repeat and if there is duplicate items. "When choosing 6 balls out of 70 (7 pack out of 71 though the core pack is always chosen) where order does not matter and without repetitions: 131,115,984" To make clear that this is not the number where order does matter that number is: 94,403,509,199
The core pack is only fixed by default, but not necessarily. When starting you can choose how the packs are chosen: A specific pack, random or one of 3 random options. You can see it quickly at the very start on the right side of character selection.
The equation for combinations, which eliminates redundancies e.g. AB = BA, is nCr = n! / r! * (n-r)! Where n is the number of options and r is how many you pick. So 71!/7!*(71-7)!. This reduces to (71*70*69*68*67*66*65)/(7*6*5*4*3*2*1) for a total of over 1.3 billion distinct combinations
So one mistake. You don't pick the first pack, it's already the base one. So n=70 and r=6. This gives a much smaller, but still huge pool of over 130 million combinations.
However, you also need to consider that after 3 are picked for you, you can also pick 1 of 3 packs for the next 3 selections. So, technically the formula is [70!/3!*(70-3)!] + some other crap Im too lazy to figure or write out lol. Theoretically though, the answer should be something a little under 130 million squared (assuming DDRmassa did the arithmetic correctly).
@@njstudent155 it's not about which packs you pick, it's about which packs the game gives you to pick from to get the total number of combinations. Giving the player a choice of 3 when those could be any of the packs is equivalent to giving the player 1 pick from the entire possibility of packs when it comes to determining potential outcomes.
Honestly, I tried modding the game for the first time after seeing your previous video and after having a Sealed Sword run as my very first, I knew this was going to be an absolute banger. Keep up the content from it, this mod has near limitless potential and I'm looking forward to seeing all of it eventually.
Ahh combinatorics math. I will try to explain it for anyone unfamiliar, there are 3 main ways to compute combinatorics: variation, combination and permutation. Variations are arrangements of selections of objects, where the order of the selected objects matters. Combinations are selections of objects, with or without repetition, the order does not matter. Permutations are arrangements of objects (with or without repetition), the order does matter. A permutation P(n) is just the factorial of a number, so for example permutation of 5 (or in math terms P(5)) is just 5! = 1*2*3*4*5 A variation V(n,k) is like a more stripped down permutation where you for example are looking in all the ways that you can split 3 slices of pizza between 5 people, where you are interested in who gets which slice. In this example We would write it as V(5,3) = (5*4*3*2*1)/(3*2*1) [but if you are a smart cookie you can see that you can just write the *k*th term of your number series n] which is just 5*4 = 20 A combination C(n,k) is a form of variation in which we do not care about the order of things and we exclude any repeating. C(n,k) = V(n,k)/P(k). Keep in mind that combinations, variations and permutations can get way out of hand even with just double digit numbers plugged into them, but they have been used to make great things happen. A great example of how wild numbers can get is with the question of how many different ways we can have 6 Packs of 70 with The Packmaster. This is strictly a combination because the order of choosing Packs doesn't matter and we cannot have any repeats and it goes like this: C(70,6) = V(70,6)/P(6) = (70*69*68*67*66*65)/(6*5*4*3*2*1) Final answer for how many different combinations of Packs we can get (at least for now) is: *786,695,910* As I said, combinatorics get way out of hand super quickly. tl;dr A math nerd explains combinatorics and figures out how many different combinations of Packs you can get. edit: misunderstood how many packs there are and how many you chose from at the start of a run

I just want to watch slay the streamer of this character eventually where frost picks from 3 for all his packs and does sealed deck, then everyone tries to kill him with bad card choices. It could be interesting.
1:21:00 yeah I'm pretty sure it's because you have combinations and not permutations, so you essentially ignore combinations of packs where they're the same but were picked in a different order. It's confusing probability and statistics stuff, but it's not in the billions of possibilities haha.
I did the math, and the number of combinations (order doesn’t matter by definition) is large enough that the only realistic way to get the same combination of 3 packs twice is if you use a set seed, and even then I am not certain about that one. Yes it’s not endless, but repeat combinations aren’t going to naturally occur unless you sink like 100’s, maybe even 1000’s, of hours into the mod
So we know we play with 7 decks. 6 random. 1 core. Is it 71 pickable decks? Or 71 total? The core should not be in the pool. Regardless the number of combinations is in the millions. So we are happy enough to be sure to enjoy unique content.

Imma be annoying for a sec. (Scroll past if you have ptsd from math class) There are 71 Packs but one is the core set that is always included, so there are 70 packs that fill 6 slots. When using google with the search term "possible combinations if order doesn't matter" I get the same result. Now google might be wrong, but since it aligns with the way i arrived at through logic (and that i can explain quite well), i'll let my confirmation bias take over and say this is the right way. :^) EDIT: so lets just say there are more combinations than most people will ever play, even if there are only the 5040 the one dude said.
If you play as Snecko from the downfall mod with the packmaster mod installed you can get the packmaster as an option during setup and have access to ALL of his cards from EVERY pack. Might make a cool video 👀
You can do some silly stuff with packmaster. In the Smithy pack there's a card that upgrades other card in hand, and it can upgrade multiple times, even if the card that you're upgrading is alrrsdy upgraded. If you have multiple of them, you can upgrade your upgrade card. With some "create a copy of card in hand" shenanigans I managed to make a card that's says "upgrade targed card in hand 15 times"
It's hilarious when you then upgrade the "draw 2 cards and upgrade them" card because it then becomes like "draw 8 and upgrade them". And then with the card-copying, you can then copy your absurdly upgraded cards.
@@charcharmunr there's even better version of that card, in a different pack, that I got. It lets you pick any 2 cards in the draw pile or discard pile, upgrade them, and put them into draw pile so that next turn you draw them. That one is legit broken, because you can setup any combo you want.
h*ll yeah, was really hoping to have more packmaster content. if you could just weave new packmaster runs in once a week for a while i think that would be great to keep content fresh
Really enjoying this character. Hopefully much more content to come. Always do what you want to do though, dont feel forced to keep playing if you aren't enjoying it though. We come for the good feels regardless of what game
Now for my non-math comment. Frost I'm absolutely loving this content. I'm really wanting to see the rest of the ascension climb with this character, and it's motivating me to get better at the game. I'd like to ask, could you give us some tips on general deck building? I know that you can't rely on any single archetype unless you get nasty lucky on a run, but what should I look for in general when building? For example, I often find myself having great damage, but never blocking for enough. Or I find myself having great defense, but my damage lacks to the point that the moment I hit a scaling fight, it's over for me. Much love, many waffles.
I've downloaded the mod and did a few runs. It's been very fun! I have to say I've found the Transmutation pack overpowered, it has carried both of the runs I've had with it on its own. Even more interesting synergies between packs than I was expecting.
I only play on my switch so no mods. This mod looks really good and clever because it's modular. Like any random modder could make a pack of cards of their own and add it to Nexus or wherever.
So I know that you have devs looking in the comments. I'm having a little issue with the creativity and anomaly card packs. If a creative strike+ from creativity pack creates an eternal strike from the anomaly pack, the eternal strike will cost 0 and exhaust on play But the copy created by eternal strike copies the modified cost, creating an infinite damage loop. It doesn't feel healthy to one-shot the giant head with 1 card in your opening hand.
I am currently playing with it after not playing StS for years. It's fun. Thanks for showing it off. NO Thanks for getting Vo Do nerfed. The Strength Debuff is now only single-target.
For anyone who IS curious what math is correct: The number of combinations of 7 packs out of a possible 71 is (71!) / (64! • 7!) ≈ 1.3 million. If the order of the packs mattered (which it doesn't) it would be (71!) / (64!) ≈ 6.7 billion. In short, it's a LOT.
This mod is incredible, Just pulled off a run with infinites thanks to cthulus madness theme and Quantas manaburst reducing two of them each to zero cost and looping them
Frost probs isn’t taking pack combination suggestions from utube but for everyone else: Shaman, Distortion, Conjour Petra and Chilling Bite as 4 of your pack gives a crazy debuff build that pops off when you get that power that deal damage when you inflict a debuff (Sadisdic Nature?)
the formula for an unordered subset of selected object should be: a - total number of packs b - number of selected packs a!/((a-b)!*(b)!) which is the total number of ordered sets divided by the internal ordering of both selected and unselected groups. which is to say that there are the same amount of options from selecting 3 from 7 and selecting 4 from 4 as the latter is just selecting 3 to exclude. trust me I'm working in algorithm design and play+create card games as a hobby.(one of which has a demo on itch but it sucks ass) with b = 71 and a=7(is it 8 packs including the core set?) using the formula: 71!/(7!*64!) = 5,040 which is the answer given at the start of the debate and is the correct answer. but that is just the number of different pack sets you can have and not total content.
To explain where the "choose" formula comes from, and why n!/(k!*(n-k)!) works for figuring out how many combinations of 7 packs we can choose from 71 (or 6 out of 70 as it may be) The total number of permutations (unique orderings) of 71 packs in the first place is 71*70*69*... = 71!. However, this overcounts by both the permutations of packs that we're picking, 7 (because the order doesn't matter) as well as the permutations of packs that we're not picking, 71-7=64 (because we're not picking them). Thus we divide by both 7! (the number of permutations of the packs we picked themselves, which we treat as all the same) and 64! (the number of permutations of the packs we didn't pick, because we treat those the same as well). Therefore, 71!/(7!*64!)= 1329890705, the number of 7 pack *combinations* that can be chosen from 71 packs. If you're having trouble visualizing how 71! overcounts exactly, first note that when you pick 7 packs, you're also "picking" 64 packs that you did not pick. Imagine that when you pick 7 packs, that they're set in stone for now. The 64 packs you did not pick can have any order, but because we don't care about those orders, we need to get rid of them somehow. Every single selection of 7 packs has the same number of 64 nonpicked packs that we need to deal with, 64!. Meanwhile, because of symmetry, every one of those "nonpicked" selections has also overcounted the picked pack orderings. Each of those 64! "nonpicked" selections has its own 7 picked packs which in the naive 71! calculation have been overcounted by exactly the number of permutations of 7 packs, or 7!. Thus the amount that 71! overcounts is 7!*64!.
Not a professor but I got an A on Discrete Structures so I guess uhh… Since order doesn’t matter and you’re choosing 6 packs with no repeats (because Core pack is always there) from 69 packs, we use the choose formula because we’re counting sets of 6 elements. So the number of possibilities is 69C6 = 69! / ((69-6)!*6!) = 119,877,472 total possible combinations of card packs
By the math and probability on the possibilities and combinations, it's very easy to reach the conclusion that the content is pog, and whatever minutia comes along is completely useless. lol

Even more interesting synergies between packs than I was expecting.
Alignment and Flow is the OP combo I found with this character
I tried the mod after you first streamed it and HOLY… haven’t felt this excited to play more sts
I only play on my switch so no mods. This mod looks really good and clever because it's modular. Like any random modder could make a pack of cards of their own and add it to Nexus or wherever.
My big takeaway from this video is that Olexa will never be able to understand his own card
So I know that you have devs looking in the comments.
I'm having a little issue with the creativity and anomaly card packs.
If a creative strike+ from creativity pack creates an eternal strike from the anomaly pack,
the eternal strike will cost 0 and exhaust on play
But the copy created by eternal strike copies the modified cost, creating an infinite damage loop.
It doesn't feel healthy to one-shot the giant head with 1 card in your opening hand.
I am currently playing with it after not playing StS for years. It's fun. Thanks for showing it off. NO Thanks for getting Vo Do nerfed. The Strength Debuff is now only single-target.

Loving the pack master content
Frost is actually just TH-cam with all of his TH-cam content. But I agree that chat can be a bit of a TH-cam at times
What a bunch of youtube fellas amirite
@@otter1428 totally TH-cam my TH-cam friend
Honestly, i think distortion is gonna be one of my favourite packs, i just really dig the vibe.
Dude tried the mod. That Transmute is insane.
Alternate title: Frost Prime goes to jail.
For anyone who IS curious what math is correct:
The number of combinations of 7 packs out of a possible 71 is (71!) / (64! • 7!) ≈ 1.3 million.
If the order of the packs mattered (which it doesn't) it would be (71!) / (64!) ≈ 6.7 billion.
In short, it's a LOT.
Greatly enjoyed this, thank you :3
This mod is unbelievably TH-cam, it’s awesome
TH-camd with the sauce
Frost is a total TH-cam for this
Flow Pack + the Ethereal pack is so strong. It's a very easy infinite.
frosts card unironically carried my run yesterday thanks bud
I was playing last night and also had a run with multiple Frost Prime powers. It is such a good card, even if its a little slow to start
Got here before the math comments pog. Throwing my own answer in the ring for 131 million combinations.
Fell in love with the character after seeing the Marisa pack, can’t wait to see more!
71 different packs? thats like... DOZENS of combinations
Love your content and loved playing the mod myself!
54 day frost evolution
I returned to Slay The Spire & beat the game 4 times due to this mod, Mcthank you. Also yes, your card is poggers.
the formula for an unordered subset of selected object should be:
a - total number of packs
b - number of selected packs
a!/((a-b)!*(b)!)
which is the total number of ordered sets divided by the internal ordering of both selected and unselected groups.
which is to say that there are the same amount of options from selecting 3 from 7 and selecting 4 from 4 as the latter is just selecting 3 to exclude.
trust me I'm working in algorithm design and play+create card games as a hobby.(one of which has a demo on itch but it sucks ass)
with b = 71 and a=7(is it 8 packs including the core set?)
using the formula:
71!/(7!*64!) = 5,040
which is the answer given at the start of the debate and is the correct answer.
but that is just the number of different pack sets you can have and not total content.
Honestly sketchy salesman music kinda dubious
To explain where the "choose" formula comes from, and why n!/(k!*(n-k)!) works for figuring out how many combinations of 7 packs we can choose from 71 (or 6 out of 70 as it may be)
The total number of permutations (unique orderings) of 71 packs in the first place is 71*70*69*...
I love how the chat doesn’t shut up lol
With my professional opinion, there are at least 7 combinations
Not a professor but I got an A on Discrete Structures so I guess uhh…
Since order doesn’t matter and you’re choosing 6 packs with no repeats (because Core pack is always there) from 69 packs, we use the choose formula because we’re counting sets of 6 elements.
So the number of possibilities is 69C6 = 69! / ((69-6)!*6!) = 119,877,472 total possible combinations of card packs
There are 70 packs he said I thought (not including core set)
@@Subpar1224 If it’s 70 packs not including core pack, then it’s 70C6 = 131,115,985
Starting with 8 Frostprimes sounds fun
I downloaded, beat and started farming packmaster runs because of you. Never change brother.
Oh man I cant wait to see more of this. Also I dont know how you do it but how do you play Runic Pyramid with a 20+ deck hahaha.
WE WANT MORE OF THIS MOD FROST
Hi, it's me, one of those people who is playing StS Packmaster because of Frost Prime content :]
I'm just gonna say there's a LOT of combinations of packs. I'm not even going to try the math.
Packmaster is now officially my highest Ascension character. It's just so much fun!
I’m loving this mod it looks so cool! And loving the content frost ❤
i love the pacmaster so much, would love to see more content on him, um, peglin poglin
peglin poglin peglin poglin
I’m glad to have a card named after me in the Alignment pack
By the math and probability on the possibilities and combinations, it's very easy to reach the conclusion that the content is pog, and whatever minutia comes along is completely useless. lol
1:22:50 ...because let's be honest! WE ARE FKING IDIOTS! XD
So true... XD
Hello, im a hobbyist mathematician. Can confirm that there are more than 22! Combinations
Play more of this character please
Actually!!! The math to find how many combinations is…
1+1 =2 and u can’t convince me otherwise
