Japan isn't the entire world though. The west didn't get PlayStation until late 1996 I believe. So no it's not remarkable. There are like three times as many people in Canada and the USA combined than Japan. Let alone Europe. You make no sense.
@@aelechkothe playstation came out in late 95 in na, you might be getting it confused with the n64, which came out late 96. but it really is weird, after all, it was late in the 16 bit generation, to see games come out for an 8 bit is really odd, the genesis and snes had already sold very well by that time.
I’m sure you’re a smart guy but why say something so obvious? Of course games almost ubiquitously get better as the system gets older. What’s the point of your comment other than for you to somehow feel good aboot yourself?
While it is obvious a console's games would generally get better in time. The comment is underlining the fact nintendo pushed the console for a decade, and still made decent games for kids who maybe werent able to upgrade to the SNES. Also, doing worse ports of current SNES games may actually mean the quality of games worsens in time.
Some people got nothing better to do than find stuff on the Internet to be mad or make a big deal about. I've been there myself man it's not a good feeling.
I remember Wario's Woods being brand new at Toys R Us. It's the only NES game in my lifetime where I truly remember noticing it as a brand new release. Before that I think I just took for granted that all the other games didn't exist at one point and wasn't noticing them come out because I was so focused on SNES and Genesis
Breakdowns by year are an interesting way to talk about these games, it's cool to see where the systems were at a particular point in their lifespan. Love it!
1994 was an evolutionary year in video game history. NES wasn't dead but 16 bit was evolving. I never let go of either. They have their qualities forever.
It's weird that any NES games came out in 1994 at all. Even the SNES was already long in the tooth at this point. To put things in perspective, Japan already had the PS1 in 1994.
Mega Man 6 was great, I'd say probably 3rd best MM game for the NES. I especially liked the exploration aspect of it, there's two paths (or more? but I think at least 2) you can take in each levels, and each path makes you use the transformation powers, it's a well-crafted game with good levels design imo.
I was very lucky enough that I got Startropics 2 Zoda's Revenge and Wario Woods at that time which for those who doesn't know Wario Woods also came out on the SNES in the same Year of 1994. Startropics 2 was the true last NES USA exclusive game unlike Wario Woods which was on both the NES and SNES even though the nes version came first and it's a shame that both games were overlooked because of the SNES. Startropics 2 I really enjoy it but I always prefer the original, as for Wario Woods let me tell you this, it is super addictive I spend many hours playing that game. Fun fact Wario Woods was the last and First NES game that has a ESRB Rating in history.
I was fortunate enough in the mid to late 90s to walk into Funcoland and purchase TMNT Tournament Fighters, Chip n Dale 2 , Bonk's Adventure, and other rare NES games for under $20 at the time. I ended up selling them along my copy of Castlevania Dracula X and Aero Fighters for Super NES and some other very valuable NES games in 2015 to buy my son some clothes for school because money was tight at the time. Sadly my son passed away on Nov. 12, 2020 due to health problems including organ failure at 22 years old and missed the birth of his daughter my only grandchild on January 7,2021.
My brother ordered Zodas Revenge from a store that no longer exists, Consumers Distributing. The game didn't have an official release date to look forward too like we do today, it was just labeled as coming in Spring or Summer. My brother called that store every few days for months checking to see if it came in, im sure he drove the staff crazy haha.
Even though I had pretty much moved onto the SNES at this point and the only NES games I was really buying were used ones, it still made me happy for some reason that Nintendo Power continued to have NES coverage even if some months they were only reviewing a single game.
Interesting, here in south america, all these games were widely available back in the late 90's, including this eluding Flinstontes Game. i heard that in the SNES/N64 era a lot of this "old" games where sold to south american market.
tmnt tournament for nes is the best fighting for nes and one of the best looking game on the system. great work with color pallete, outstanding animation, parallax scrolling, big characters, excellent ost, and superb gameplay. love it
For sure lol. When you are an 80's kid or grew up in the 80-90's you didn't have access to 1000's of games like you do now & get a lot of them for free. I remember my friend only had 6 games total for the entire Nes Generation. Super Mario 1 & Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros 3, TMNT 1, Blades of Steel & World Cup Soccer. That's it that's all he had for that Nes Generation. Then even worse my other friend when I was a kid he only had 3 Sega Genesis games. NHL Hockey, Sonic 1 & Golden Axe. 3 games for that entire generation.
If you were only going to have two games for two years, Super Mario Bros. 3 by itself would hold you over and Zoda's Revenge would be a lot of awesome chocolate frosting.
6:46 The Software Toolworks! so nostalgic- I had a few of their edutainment games on our Win3.1 Packard Bell before getting a Genesis. 🥲 Love this version had a little NES cart
If I heard correctly Capcom wasn't going to release Mega Man 6 in North America. Which is interesting because two of the bosses were designed by kids from NA based on a contest in Nintendo Power.
I remember doing that time when the crash tummies were big. They were specials. I even remember recording one. On TV just to make sure I gotta watch it again later in a even ask for the gameboy version of crash dummies for my birthday and I think they even had a short run Saturday morning cartoon for a while Yeah they became super popular for a minute

MM6 is an amazing game. Having spent considerable time playing all of the classic MM games to death and speedrunning them to the best of my abilities, MM6 is definitely worth it. Imo, if you had to play three MM games, 2, 4 and 6 are definitely the most stand out titles with the most addictive gameplay. Sooo good! I wanna play them right now! I know a lot of people favor MM3, which is fine, as it's better than 5 and 1, but I honestly think these people just stopped their run of MM games back in the days after 2 and 3 and that's also where the nostalgia peaked. I only owned MM4 as a kid, and that's probably my favorite for that reason, but of all the other ones, 2 and 6 are where it's at. Saying MM6 is in the middle of the pack is fair, as I'd probably rank it after 4 and 2, but we're talking some of the very best sidescrollers of all time here, so ranking them only along their respective franchise brethren won't quite do them justice. 😅

I used to love playing with the Crash Test Dummies action figures. You put them in a car, smashed them into the wall, and they exploded in different ways… they even made a dog, a cat, and a baby in a car seat…
Cool video. I remember 1994 well, was 14 years of age. I still own Nintendo NES and Sega Genesis and play them both. It's Ismail Abdul up I Pontiac, Michigan
Chip and Dale 2 Is really good and original, all bosses are original- good story, fun humor, good design. It feels like a lost episode to be honest. Played through a bunch of times. I pick this over the original any day.
1994 I was still playing NES, didn't get a SNES until Xmas 1995! Mega Man 6 and StarTropics II are the only ones from the video that I owned. I still have Zoda's Revenge, complete in box.

Now you can play them with save states & put in a lot of game genie codes up to 20 I believe on ever drives & not just 3-5 codes. 2023 & up is better than the 90's.
I discovered Wario's Woods through the Switch online. It's easily top 3 puzzle games of all time for me. Right up there with Tetris and Zoop. Sidenote... after talking to people I think I might have been the only person to ever truly love Zoop
Once mega man X came out I couldn’t go back to regular. The OGs are still great but didn’t care much for the ones after. 3 is probably my favorite next to 2.
1994 was an interesting year for sure. On the shelves you had these games such as Mega Man VI and Wario's Woods, alongside some late SNES games like Donkey Kong Country. But you also PC games like Warcraft and Doom. All of these games would be still on the shelves in '95 alongside Playstation titles as well.
I only played Flintstones recently through emulation. In 1994 I was playing Genesis & Super Nes games. I owned a Genesis in 94 (still do) & played Snes at my friends house which I didn't have at the time, (have it now though) & again played way lesser games than I do now. Far lesser.
I remember playing trolls treasure island back in 93. So 92 make sense. And the only reason i remember is because i bought just star fox a week after it was released and my friend wanted to play troll on the nes instead.
Just did a full playthrough of Bonk on the NES only a few days ago (the Famicom cart, actually). Definitely a lot easier than the TG16 original, but still a lot of fun (despite the weird af bestiality ending).
It's weird that no one ever mentions The Lion King and Aladdin, which were both official NES releases and were released in 1995. The Lion King is the final licensed NES game worldwide. Actually it's not weird, because they were only released in PAL regions, and Americans don't know Europe exists.
I can’t believe that TripleJump rated 1994 as the worst year in gaming history. Many of my most favorite games ever were released in that year. It was the year the NES died and the PlayStation was born.
I actually went out and bought Zoda's Revenge right after release as I was a big fan of StarTropics. Game play was very good, but the story was meh. I liked the island hopping more. The game was supposed to come out much earlier. If I recall Nintendo Power had a teaser in an issue around 1992ish? Somehow it was pushed back and part of me thinks we are lucky it was even released. I remember Nintendo Power editors being impressed with TMNT Tournament Fighters. They couldn't figure out how the programming team pulled it off on the NES's limited hardware at the time.
Once I saw the title card, I went “what’s he gonna say about Zoda’s Revenge?”. Great game. My only complaint of the series is, Mike Jones moves too stiff in the first one, too slippery on the second. That’s it, the only Deficiencies

Considering that both the Saturn and the Playstation released in '94 in Japan, it's remarkable that there were any NES games at ALL.

I remember playing trolls treasure island back in 93. So 92 make sense. And the only reason i remember is because i bought just star fox a week after it was released and my friend wanted to play troll on the nes instead.
My Tg16 Bonk Loyalty made me not pick up the NES version back in the day. I only saw it twice. I do have Bonk 3 so I'm not all Bonked out
same.
This guy is the king of showing games. He has obviously never played and trying to talk about them.
Didn’t Zodas Revenge make the cover of Nintendo Power?
I've gotta check out that Cereal Cafe...hope you sell ROMs for us folks who transcended beyond physical to digital retro collections... 😁
It's linked as well. I have them on my itch.io channel.
@@JohnRiggs found them and put them in my Launchbox and on my G Cloud to try after work.
Wario's Woods is amazing!! I was surprised by how much I like it :)
Just did a full playthrough of Bonk on the NES only a few days ago (the Famicom cart, actually). Definitely a lot easier than the TG16 original, but still a lot of fun (despite the weird af bestiality ending).
for sure. You can beat it the first time you play it, but it's still fun.
Easier than the original? So it takes 15 minutes to beat instead of 20?
It's weird that no one ever mentions The Lion King and Aladdin, which were both official NES releases and were released in 1995. The Lion King is the final licensed NES game worldwide. Actually it's not weird, because they were only released in PAL regions, and Americans don't know Europe exists.
I had Alfred Chicken for NES as a kid lol😂 it was definitely fun
I dont remember the crash dummies PSAs, but i had the action figures and I remember watching the 3d animated cartoon
Kind of wild they were releasing NES games up until a year before the first PlayStation was released.
Missed opportunity to bring out the 7 Grand Dad meme.
Also, no mention of Wario Woods being the only NES game to have a rating by the ESRB?
*2:41* classic unscripted moment. This is why we love Riggs lol
Incredible. They were still doing NES games when the Sega Saturn was released...
I can’t believe that TripleJump rated 1994 as the worst year in gaming history. Many of my most favorite games ever were released in that year. It was the year the NES died and the PlayStation was born.
no way! So many bangers on SNES, it's far from the worst year in gaming history.
It's the best
I can still watch the skating montage from Gleam The Cube in my head at any time!
Wooooo! Another video! Always great!
You said dash galaxy as I was thinking dash galaxy 😂 👾🙌
I actually went out and bought Zoda's Revenge right after release as I was a big fan of StarTropics. Game play was very good, but the story was meh. I liked the island hopping more. The game was supposed to come out much earlier. If I recall Nintendo Power had a teaser in an issue around 1992ish? Somehow it was pushed back and part of me thinks we are lucky it was even released.
I remember Nintendo Power editors being impressed with TMNT Tournament Fighters. They couldn't figure out how the programming team pulled it off on the NES's limited hardware at the time.
Startropics 2 is one of my favorite games.
Once I saw the title card, I went “what’s he gonna say about Zoda’s Revenge?”. Great game. My only complaint of the series is, Mike Jones moves too stiff in the first one, too slippery on the second. That’s it, the only Deficiencies
Every time I've heard (and hear) someone make mention of Alfred Chicken throughout my life, I picture ASTRO CHICKEN from Space Quest III.🤣
…these came out only two years before the N64. That’s really wild
Great🍾 🔥🔥🔥
By 1994, the NES was obsolete to the point where it would’ve been embarrassing to purchase a new game. No one I knew was still using their NES in 94.
"Alfred Chicken is a registered trademark of Twilight" 😅😂
