Anyone who claims if you're at least 6ft you should be dunking obviously has never even touched rim, they don't consider arm length which is also a big factor, or the amount of practice for anyone to be able to dunk regardless of height it still takes tons of effort. A very small percentage of people have the athleticism and work ethic to be able to dunk and you commenting on TH-cam that you can does not prove a thing

Jar Jar You may think you can't jump high but anyone can learn. Jumping is a skill that surprisingly a lot of people are not good at only because they don't actually practice it. Technique over everything, then comes strength. Put in work and you'll achieve what you want. Sorry for getting all philosophical on you but it really is true...lol

I always come back to this video to get inspired.
I want to increase my vert but I also want leaner/thinner calves. I have heard some people say try long distance running to try to thin the calves but others say that just slows your progression on your vert. Others say vert training is a way to thin your calves but I'm short and I don't want over bulky calves and that's all I see in guys with my height who can jump high. Now I'm so confused now; should I try the running or just work on my vert? Any suggestions, please???

@@caseofdeez Make the math lol. Even if his standing reach would increase by 16 inches, he´d be nowhere near dunking. And his vertical would decrease, as he would be heavier. Looks like you don´t get that even at 6 foot 2 its really hard to dunk and you have to put a lot of work in it. Being taller also means less vertical jump

5’1 14 i can dunk on 8ft and touch mid to high net I don’t have a way to measure my vertical but i would assume it’s around 15-20in? correct me if i’m wrong.
It depends on your standing reach. There's no way to tell if you are right or wrong because it depends on your standing reach. Standing reach is how high you can reach whilst standing. You then do a standing jump and measure how high your hand could reach. You then subtract your standing reach from your standing jump. For example, if your standing reach is 7 foot 7 inches, and you can reach 8 foot 10 inches when you do a vertical jump/standing jump, you do the following equation:
8 foot 10 inches subtract 7 foot 7 inches = 9 inches. This means you have a vertical/standing jump of 15 inches. Remember though, the lower your vertical jump is than the average is for your age, the more room for improvement there is. Someone with a 40 inch vertical jump won't see as much improvement in their vertical jump than a person with a 15 inch vertical jump if both trained for 6 months. Hope this helped.
Im 13 and 6'3" and I can just hold onto the rim... would be able to jump higher but cause I had severe severs disease and osgood-schlatters I had to stop basketball and volleyball for 12 months 😢 but I'm just starting to do explosive movements like jumping again. In like a month I will be dunking 😁

Yeah grip is a huge thing when you are younger. Two ideas, dunk all you can on 10' with anything. Start with golf ball size stuff. My first dunk on 10' was with a ping pong ball (no joke). To practice with a full size ball, lower the rim. Use a grippy ball also. I use under armor outdoor basketballs. Easier to dunk one handed off one foot if you have trouble with grip. I might make a video of dunking tips at some point, good idea. Good luck!

I can touch backboard at 5,6 but I’m extremely far from dunking because people don’t realize that you have to be able to touch about 6 inches over the rim and you have to practice a lot to learn how to dunk in general.

I was 6'1 at 13. I am now 25 and only 6'4. Don't think because you're tall at a young age that you're going to grow to be some 7 foot giant lol. Some people only have one growth spurt and that is it. Unfortunately for me, mine came really early lol.
