@Shiqna1 Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed! I wish I could have showed more footage too, but my phone didn't pick it up very well and the cabinet was constantly moving back and forth so it was hard to get clear footage. For future arcade games, I hope to have more monitor footage.
@blablupp77 It really is a shame so many OutRun cabs were killed for this game, including this one I played one as far as I know. I really have a love/hate relationship with conversion kits for arcade machines. It's still a fun game, but yeah, more often than not I prefer the original OR to TOR.
@Shiqna1 It was simply more convenient, but the FOV issue and inadequate lighting issues did come into play somewhat. Might try with my camera next time to see how it works.
I would simply love to play all the old Arcade Games, sadly there is no place that has any machines over here (Germany) that I know of. I remember a lot of my pocket money going into OutRunners, Revenge of Shinobi and others I don´t remember the name of. It would be a fantastic trip back to childhood to play any of those in an arcade again. I can still remember the sense of occasion, the smile of my dad when I played, that there was a bratwurst seller just round the corner, that I kept watching the older kids play, open-mouthed, in awe of how good they were... and so forth.
@Digitrax83 I have played those and I enjoy them! They are more like the original Outrun, with forks in the road and such, and are a ton of fun so I highly approve.
@JMMREVIEW It actually does the game a surprising amount of justice! It's got a new drifting and slipstream system, but it fits into the whole OutRun feel rather well. A very fun game, I'd very much recommend downloading it before its license to be on XBLA runs out this December.
@JMMREVIEW Pretty sure you're referring to OutRun Online Arcade, which is on XBLA and used to be on PSN. It's more of a remake/sequel to the original OutRun, with forks in the road, radio station selection and no turbo button or anything specific to Turbo Outrun.
@stickmansamsmith The game came out in 1989, a full six years before the F-50 was produced. So yeah, the F-40 is what the car is based on quite clearly :D
Yeah, that's a converted OutRun, dedicated Turbo OutRun machines were all white, they're also rare as hen's teeth. Seriously, there's only about 10 on record!
I was honestly lucky enough to have played a dedicated Turbo Outrun as a kid in a defunked arcade here in Augusta GA USA and it had the turbo button on the stick, but i was about 6 the the last time I remember playing it. Seriously did not know they where that rare.
Commodorefan64 I think they're rare because the original OutRun was so popular, and if any operators did want turbo outrun, it was cheaper for them to buy a used outrun cab and buy the upgrade kit. But they are one of the holy grails of arcade collectors. That and the pneumatic Chase HQ machines, only five of them and the last one went on eBay for $300,000 !!!
***** Yep as you know just like a lot of the play choice 10 cabs where upgrade kits to Punch Out. I'm in the process now of building a Mini Table top MAME Machine, just need too find someone with the tools to route out my wood cabinet on the cheap lol!
I love the Outrun series! The music alone sets me in a state of nostalgia! Thanks for an awesome review! And I can't wait to see more arcade reviews! Do some really obscure games! They are usually the best!
The outrun series are the most memorable game for me ! I had one in my home a long time where i could switch between outrun and outrun turbo . Awesome game . Thanks for reviewing it !
I've actually played the original Outrun on the arcade model where it was in the shape of a car and would move about as you go left or right. Probably one of the best games I played in the arcade.
I really liked this game "back in the day". Pumped a fair bit of change into it, easily more than the original outrun. Wish I could remember the name of the 3 screen clone. Had one main screen and 2 peripheral view screens. Pretty impressive at the time.
Pumped some quarters in this piece today, sooo good. The cabinet I played was sit-down w/hydraulics, but also had stereo speakers mounted in the headrest. Very immersive! It's at Salem Willows Park, if anybody lives in North Shore MA.
@phreakindee you know what else I find odd about this TOR cabinet? The instruction bezel from the upright TOR cabinet is used on this machine you played.
This entire review should have been about the betrayal system where the love of your life can be found in the opponent's car if you lose a stage. Shocking behaviour.
@phreakindee OutRun Online Arcade was pretty much an Outrun Coast 2 Coast upgrade, which in of itself is a remake/upgrade of Outrun 2, which is a remake of the original. Sorry to nitpick, keep up the awesome reviews :D
Reminds me a lot of Lamborghini: American Challenge. That was a fun game. Tough until you realized you could end the race as soon as you got a high place and not need to even make it to the finish line, heheh.
Great review. I have never seen the arcade version shown in such detail before with a few of its levels. A nice follow-up to Outrun I do think it is a shame about no forks in the road but as long as the gameplay is still there then I guess it is all good. I like the touch of your girlfriend leaving your car for your opponents. Quite amusing.
on the turbo outrun machine you were playing in this video, did the shifter have a turbo button on it, or was the start button used for turbo on it? Since that machine was a outrun conversion into turbo outrun, i bet the start button was the turbo button, am i right?
I went to an arcade that had a Guilty Gear machine, and the cabinet was shoddily converted, the cabinet still said Mortal Kombat, not sure which version if it, and had holes for missing buttons that Guilty Gear didn't use. Oh well, that place was actually selling them as well for 2,000 dollars, even the ones that looked like they'd seen hell. Some even had messed up monitors in them, so I doubt anyone would buy them unless they could fix them up. Still cool, I miss arcades...
Great Review!! Love Out Run and the Turbo version is pretty good too. It's a shame they did away with the multiple routes as that was one of my favourite things about the original. I used to like replaying it just to see what those other endings were like. You're really lucky having an arcade close by where you can play these kinds of classic titles. All of the ones near me tend to have newer and less interesting titles. What's more, most of the units are slot machines. Urrgh!!
@Shiqna1 I think you miss understood me. What I was getting at was, its always nice to see obscure games getting a little more screen play then the popular games. I love my arcade games, and a lot of the games I enjoy, a lot of people don't really talk about! I mean how often do you hear someone say "My favorite arcade games are Zombie Raid, Chiller, The Combatribes, and Blood Storm" for example? Not often. And I also trust @phreakindee 110%, the man does a fantastic review every time!
I always thought the best original arcade OutRun port was the Sega Ages game on Saturn which coincidentally has pretty much the best arcade ports of Space Harrier and Afterburner II.
... Surprisingly I had Outrun on the Amstrad CPC and it wasnt too bad. Oh, and last week I played Outrun in the Arcade! (I found a great place that had WEC le Man and Power Drift beside it!) sweeet! No Turbo Outrun though
hah, looks like it was a original Outrun cab converted to turbo, or they just reused the same style for them, since the one i got looks the same but without the "Turbo" stickers or gameplay.
I once came across a Turbo Outrun cabinet like the one this guy played in this video review, but I don't think it had the Turbo Outrun instruction bezel right above the screen like in this video. BTW i didn't play this cabinet when i saw it because I remember playing it back in the early 90s once at a skating rink, and the music used on the first 4 stages in the game (Rush A Difficulty) made me not wanna play it anymore back in the early and mid 90s. Which was kind of sad because I was a big fan of racing games back then.
However, I observed by watching some Turbo Outrun gameplay videos here on YT that most Turbo Outrun cabinets that were either the cabaret or dedicated cockpit machines had a different music order, which featured "Shake The Street" as the BGM in the game's first section instead. I'm guessing that the early versions of this arcade game had this music order: Shake the Street (Stages 1-4) Rush a Difficulty (Stages 5-8) Who Are You? (Stages 9-12) Keep Your Heart (Stages 13-16) And then later versions had revised the music order as follows: Rush a Difficulty (Stages 1-4) Keep Your Heart (Stages 5-8) Shake the Street (Stages 9-12) Who Are You? (Stages 13-16)
@gamerslivingroom yeah modern arcades are bollocks....it makes me all happy to come across an arcade full of old games...not very often does that happen v_v
I would think with the car this guy drives he can get more than just 1 harlot in the car, if she leaves.... NEXT BITCH COME OOOOOOON DOWN! I also had the pleasure of playing the upright version of the cabinet in my local laundromat and was a fun time indeed. = )
@Shiqna1 Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed!
I wish I could have showed more footage too, but my phone didn't pick it up very well and the cabinet was constantly moving back and forth so it was hard to get clear footage. For future arcade games, I hope to have more monitor footage.
Outrun is still so much fun to play, it never gets old. Great review!
@blablupp77 It really is a shame so many OutRun cabs were killed for this game, including this one I played one as far as I know. I really have a love/hate relationship with conversion kits for arcade machines.
It's still a fun game, but yeah, more often than not I prefer the original OR to TOR.
@GodsBurden Yeah man. Several more arcade reviews on the way, too!
@Shiqna1 It was simply more convenient, but the FOV issue and inadequate lighting issues did come into play somewhat. Might try with my camera next time to see how it works.

Luckily I live near a terrific modern/retro arcade
@Digitrax83 I have played those and I enjoy them! They are more like the original Outrun, with forks in the road and such, and are a ton of fun so I highly approve.
What an amazing experience playing arcade car racing games!
@JMMREVIEW It actually does the game a surprising amount of justice! It's got a new drifting and slipstream system, but it fits into the whole OutRun feel rather well. A very fun game, I'd very much recommend downloading it before its license to be on XBLA runs out this December.

"No rough playing on these machines OR YOU WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE"
@Cel3ry Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing, but I'll take your word for it!
@stickmansamsmith The game came out in 1989, a full six years before the F-50 was produced. So yeah, the F-40 is what the car is based on quite clearly :D
@GX2Productions Yup! Fraps and D3D acceleration in MAME.
Yeah, that's a converted OutRun, dedicated Turbo OutRun machines were all white, they're also rare as hen's teeth. Seriously, there's only about 10 on record!

rd649 Your point? we where talking about the arcade machine.
rd649 and again we where talking about the arcade games not the home ports, so wrong conversation dude.
I absolutely love the sit down cabinet. Seeing that work makes me want to design the ultimate arcade racer, and having that feature.
I grew up in an era before Outrun 1/Turbo, but the arcade version of Outrun 2 was amazing.
@shurdi3 I just used my Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone to record the machine and used MAME for the gameplay.
Nicely done! I hope there will be more arcade reviews in the future. :)
I've actually played the original Outrun on the arcade model where it was in the shape of a car and would move about as you go left or right. Probably one of the best games I played in the arcade.

Pumped a fair bit of change into it, easily more than the original outrun.
Wish I could remember the name of the 3 screen clone. Had one main screen and 2 peripheral view screens. Pretty impressive at the time.
F355 Challenge? The arcade was pretty amazing with its 3 screens. The Dreamcast got an awesome port (albeit with just 1 screen).
Oh ich loved the arcade machine, and the wheel to choose your ingame music at the start.
Oh, man, I loved playing that version with the hydraulics. It really ate my quarters, though!
That was one of my favorite arcade games.......
Pumped some quarters in this piece today, sooo good. The cabinet I played was sit-down w/hydraulics, but also had stereo speakers mounted in the headrest. Very immersive! It's at Salem Willows Park, if anybody lives in North Shore MA.
Great video. I loved Outrun & Turbo Outrun these were the arcade racers I grew up with. None of that Gran Turismo rubbish ;)
love the snow and night gfx!
this is that classic game from 90s i love it
@phreakindee you know what else I find odd about this TOR cabinet? The instruction bezel from the upright TOR cabinet is used on this machine you played.
@serginietor Mysterious mechanics are mysterious.
i love the sega ones where you sit in the car thing and actually feels like youre racing
Apparently Suzuki is planning more racing games for his YS Net company to develop...
I absolutely love your reviews. Thanks for the hard work.
Hydro Thunder was my favorite arcade game I ever played.
This entire review should have been about the betrayal system where the love of your life can be found in the opponent's car if you lose a stage. Shocking behaviour.
This game was Red Pilled before its time!
I love the Indianapolis background. IT TOTALLY LOOKS LIKE INDIANAPOLIS
*heavy sarcasm
I know right! Driving through the Sahara Desert/Atlanta GA (same thing) was one the most realistic, immersive game experiences I've ever had!
@phreakindee also, that segment with a guy in a corner saying "does this little race car driver want to go home", is that from a movie of some sort?
looks freaking awesome for a 80s 2d game!
yenee94 it was
@phreakindee OutRun Online Arcade was pretty much an Outrun Coast 2 Coast upgrade, which in of itself is a remake/upgrade of Outrun 2, which is a remake of the original. Sorry to nitpick, keep up the awesome reviews :D
@djsmith3000 Well, I saw one :D But I know what you mean. Very uncommon finds, these are.
Nice... I was hoping you'd get to reviewing some of those arcade machines.
Reminds me a lot of Lamborghini: American Challenge. That was a fun game. Tough until you realized you could end the race as soon as you got a high place and not need to even make it to the finish line, heheh.
Great review. I have never seen the arcade version shown in such detail before with a few of its levels. that machine is awesome, to bad you don't see them nowadays.
I love the night sky in this game.
Good job, I have always loved your videos, and always will :)
did the guys that made this also do cruisin usa?
i noticed alot of similarities
on the turbo outrun machine you were playing in this video, did the shifter have a turbo button on it, or was the start button used for turbo on it? Since that machine was a outrun conversion into turbo outrun, i bet the start button was the turbo button, am i right?

A moving game cabinet? Wow. I've never seen that before.
It reminds me 2 sega arcade games: Hot Rod and Rad Mobile.
Great Review!! Love Out Run and the Turbo version is pretty good too. It's a shame they did away with the multiple routes as that was one of my favourite things about the original. I used to like replaying it just to see what those other endings were like.

I played outrun a long time ago it was awesome
I PLAYED IT IN AN ARCADE!IT WAS AWESOME!
@Shiqna1 I think you miss understood me. What I was getting at was, its always nice to see obscure games getting a little more screen play then the popular games. its like a sequel to nfs the run,you get from SA to NY in the run,and in outrun turbo, you get from NY to LA :3
@Quimbyrbg i bought mine for 1000 SEK, which is about 153 USD, from an old, closed down Arcade hall i used to visit during the summers as a kid.
I always thought the best original arcade OutRun port was the Sega Ages game on Saturn which coincidentally has pretty much the best arcade ports of Space Harrier and Afterburner II.
Fantastic game..
Sweet review
That is fucking SWEET!
If I ever get rich enough to be able to blow a few grand on one, I'd LOVE to get a dual cab sit-down Outrunners machine.
... Surprisingly I had Outrun on the Amstrad CPC and it wasnt too bad. Oh, and last week I played Outrun in the Arcade! (I found a great place that had WEC le Man and Power Drift beside it!) sweeet! No Turbo Outrun though
Please Add subtitles!
Will you do Outrun 2019? Great review btw
hah, looks like it was a original Outrun cab converted to turbo, or they just reused the same style for them, since the one i got looks the same but without the "Turbo" stickers or gameplay.
I'm pretty sure that if you scan the license plate of the Ferrari on Outrun with a smart phone something amazing will happen.
how do you record this?
Force feedback was an interesting idea.
4:15 This is practically "Need for Speed - The Run" but backwards xD
@Expack3 MAME.
@phreakindee Absolutely, he must be a superhero of sorts.
This games kicks so much ass!
BEST MUSIC EVER
I played this in an arcade.. fuck yeah
Failing to insert more quarters before the timer runs out.... Everyone's been there at least once.
God dam Porsche drivers, every time.
LGR, check out Outrunners!
I love outrunners, to me it's a wörthy sequal.
holy shit he sounds like a completely different person
where is this arcade
game has amazing music
You have the voice of a critic.
Pretty sure this was remade on XBLA
@phreakindee Yeah thats the one I mean, looks like they "modernized" it which isnt always a good thing! (I havent played either)
I once came across a Turbo Outrun cabinet like the one this guy played in this video review, but I don't think it had the Turbo Outrun instruction bezel right above the screen like in this video.

Keep Your Heart (Stages 5-8)
Shake the Street (Stages 9-12)
Who Are You? (Stages 13-16)
0:28 i nearly lost my mind !!
Cool I have a newer version on ps2 awesome game to relax to
@gamerslivingroom yeah modern arcades are bollocks....it makes me all happy to come across an arcade full of old games...not very often does that happen v_v
ARE YOU PARTERN NOW!!!!
@insanecow11 whoops, in that last sentence I meant re-imaging (I think, lol)
this was my shit. arcade reviews are boss!
And Dallas isn't the Gobi Desert. Japan sure loves American geography!
OMG I want an Outrun machine, but not before I acquire a Daytona USA machine first.
Outrun games were very unforgiving, you had to make no mistakes or pay (literally) the price
the zx spectrum 128k version was the best one
There's something weird about how the mechanic just carries arround the engine as if it were a wrench at 5:10
I like "Outrunners"
I would think with the car this guy drives he can get more than just 1 harlot in the car, if she leaves.... NEXT BITCH COME OOOOOOON DOWN!
I also had the pleasure of playing the upright version of the cabinet in my local laundromat and was a fun time indeed. = )
"Will put a smile on even the most jaded gamer's face"
This voiceover while you sit playing the game with a blank face
ZERO FUCKS GIVEN
