Eachine Mirage E500 Vertical Takeoff VTOL Stabilized RC Airplane Flight Test Review

- This highly unusual 500mm RC VTOL airplane easily transitions back and forth between vertical and horizontal stabilized flight. Easy to fly in stabilized flight, but can be transitioned to unstabilized flying for acrobatics. Ignore my discussion of unstabilized flight, as it is not as difficult as I initally thought in this video. Find it here as PNP goo.gl/ULXr7H , BNF Flysky/Frsky goo.gl/gkcUYQ, and soon to be available RTF and RTF FPV goo.gl/sL2ug3
Pros
True vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) RC airplane.
Two 1806 2300KV motors
Gyro stabilizer with three settings, vertical stabilization for takeoff and landings, horizontal stabilzation for horizontal flight, and horizontal non stabilized for acrobatics or normal flying
BNF includes 7.4V 600mah LiPo that gives approximately 15 minutes flight time.
Available PNP, BNF Frsky/Flysky, and soon RTF / RTF FPV
Cons
Horizontal stabilized flight is very flat with turns controlled entirely via differential motor thrust. Eleron roll movement is automatic and not manually controllable in the two stabilized modes. Elerons roll control can only be manually controlled in non stabilized mode.

Quadcopter 101 your crazy rich
The explanation of the differential thrust at the end , was worth its weight in gold , Thank you for going the extra mile ! Well done.
Great review really enjoy all your review. You had a great time flying that thing.
I love it! I'm definitely gonna get one of these.
Thank you! Receive mirrage too and can't understand how to fly. ;)
Need to make review too.. ;)
That looks like it might be a good plane for beginners who are short of take off and landing space!
I can't get this to work. A video of it being setup to the Jumper T8SG would be great. Mine binds but freaks and starts oscillating the servos and powering up the motors without any input. I can hear the servos straining in all of the flight modes and I'm worried about destroying them. Any help would be appreciated.
It's strange that it doesn't use the elevon mixing to make it's turns and only uses differential thrust. That defeats the purpose of having elevons. Also strange that it would flip upside down when putting into vertical mode to land. Looks like it needs a firmware upgrade on the flight controller. Thanks for the review and Happy Flying!
Please, another video flying it in unstabalized mode! 👍
Just did it. Video should be tomorrow.
It'll back more then.
Perfect for FPV.
Is differential thrust really a con, I personally love it as I fly mostly twin engine , otherwise you are on my top 3 favorite review channel for rc planes
When you said it was turning flat, I figured it was using differential motor speeds to turn. What you didn't show at the end, was in Acro mode, where the ailerons function normally, you didn't show what happens when you operate the pitch stick to see if the control surfaces act as "elevons" (elevators & ailerons). If that's the case, it shouldn't be too hard to fly. I'm going to see if there are any other reviews of this showing it flying in "acro" mode to see if my theory is correct. Cheers.
They do function normally in acro. And I flew it again yesterday trying acro and switching back and forth between vertical and horizontal. It's not as hard to fly as I thought in acro. Another video to follow.
Yeah, I saw a guy flying it in 'acro', and it seemed to fly more like an airplane, and the roll rate was pretty good. In the right hands, it would be a pretty hot flyer. Looking forward to your next try ...
WOW! That was fast
Woww it's a nice quad different 👍
Great video, I think it would be better if you would use the controller it can with. Thanks
What dates do you upload so I can be first to comment
Pretty awesome
Nice but costly thing may be not for me.Thank you ever so much old bean.😁
Are you able to assist with the initial setting up please. Have exact same TX Jumper T8SG and the FrSky 8Ch D8 RX. To bind do I use FrSky, FrSky-V8 or FrSkyX options? Can you point me to any resource that can assist in setting up the TX (motor arm/disarm, Differential Rates and 3-Position Mode) switches? I just need to be able to figure it out once as the only experience I have had was with 27Mhz Futaba gear which did not have all these 'features'. T.I.A.
Frsky only. TH-cam search is your best bet for tutorials on setup and switches th-cam.com/video/1stHJF-e5G8/w-d-xo.html
As this uses Deviation software, searching for Deviation switch assignment will probably give you your best selection th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=TH-cam+Deviation+switch+assignment
Thanks for your reply. I did learn that the manual is wrong, managed to bind the RX but am now having to do more research into switch assignments. Where was the best position for the battery? (I have the 600mAh as supplied).
The CG point seems to be about where the wire bundles go out to the engine. Recommend using the wire bundle locations to adjust placement of your battery.
Many thanks for your help, it is truly appreciated. Me (73) and my neighbour (79-3/4) will put what I have learned into practise :-) Dave [NZ]
great vid that is very weird man never seen anything like it
Just another copy of the Horizon Hobby Xvert been there done that 😀. Nice video !
turns like a TIE fighter ;)
This is cool!!!
Can't see getting one of these as the horizon hobby xvert Ready to fly is now only $99 now. Nice Video though
Skip the xvert too. Check out the following. It beats both. th-cam.com/video/gSWnkjQ5h30/w-d-xo.html

where is this high lake you fly at. thank you
Here is exactly where I was at goo.gl/K6QVyX
re plug n play: i ordered the pnp xk a600 and already have the xk x7 controller. i assume i will have no problems binding the plane to the x7? do you see any unforseen problems i might have binding? thanks in advance of a reply.
Sorry, I never tried doing that. Not sure if you will have problems or not?
Bicopter not quadcopter, the wind affects the wing in vertical landing. It flies like the Parrot Swing.
You should make a carbon fibre wing to go under your walkera dragster tilt rotor that would be a better VTOL than this I think
My Walkera would have a hard time doing loops and spiral rolls ;-)
Quadcopter 101 na just put flaps on the wing run it 6 channel lol seriously tho I wonder if it's doable as the dragster is a tilt rotor would a wing actually create lift on it
That maneuver is called ¨The Chinese Immelmann¨ :D
Nice
ha ha I must have a few minutes lag on my alerts here in Australia.
SIR - I did not get a good enough view of this planes ability to go from it's horizontal mode back to vertical mode return to fly around as a drone would. Did not get enough demonstration of thing's flight capabilities and characteristics in vertical mode altogether. Please tape another review.
Here's another th-cam.com/video/SQs3m20rC3o/w-d-xo.html
And one more coming this week.
Thank you.
Styrofoam?
No, EPP. Here's another EPP vertical takeoff drone th-cam.com/video/gSWnkjQ5h30/w-d-xo.html
I got to have one of these
Certainly not first. 👌
Any link to the tx?
That's my Jumper universal transmitter. I use it with nearly everything that can use it these days. More info on the transmitter with links here th-cam.com/video/ksEbk53NQPQ/w-d-xo.html
Yes a plane
Dude...send this to me, COD
At that price, better to get the Strix Nano Goblin.
fyi "Quad"copter means 4...as in 4 propulsion motors ...so its not a quadcopter at all but you could say its a stableized bicopter

Direct rip off of the xvert!
Yep, probably.
