This totally horrible ride on Nijinsky was the worst of them all. Going round two beaten horses on the outside when there was a clear gap inside, just after entering the home strait, definitely lost Nijinsky the race. Veering sharply to his left 30 yards from the post is where his narrow lead evaporated. This footage focuses on Nijinsky and shows up Lester's many mistakes. Yet to lose only by a head after ringworm and lack of work, a gruelling 1.75 miles in the St Leger only weeks before and a huge loss of weight, and incompetent pilotage in this race shows what a champion Nijinsky was. Piggott says on the BBC that the Nijinsky of the summer would have won - easily in my opinion, assuming Lester didn't balls everything up.

Not Lesters finest day at the office. Nijinsky should have been retired after the Arc it was obvious he'd had enough of a long season.
2:30 Peter O Sullivan probably had quite a few schillings on him. "Nijinsky coming to pulverise them" sounds rather desperate.
Lester was never great around Longchamp.

No idea, but at least he was sent to be the favorite.
The PM win odds were 4/10 and it paid out 1 franc 50 for a place to a 1 franc stake.
