I got the infamous "divorce" from a girl I still love to this day in 84. My brother in law convinced me to go back on the road with him tag teaming and he had a K100 that must of been a mid sixties rig... it used to belong on a fleet called JB Hunt so just exactly which letter of the series I just don't remember except that it was as plain jane as they get inside. Man power everything so it wasn't a lot of fun to drive. I took it home with me to my place and it sat for a good six months then I thought well might as well fix this damn death trap. I took all the interior out as I had my pockets full of money an just hurting from the divorce bad so dedicated my time on the truck. I reproduced every panel and other in that cabin with all new real leather. Blood red and charcoal in and out... done with Emeron paint. It took almost two months of sanding and redoing the exterior... I had hired real good body and paint men so those ten men put in very long days from the start, they all averaged a hundred hour work week for two months getting it ready for final paint. The interior was the same except farmed out to a company that only did kenworth an only the best materials. If it wasn't painted, then it was chromed which included the front axle and the frame extensions because I pulled the small cam cummins engine an while the cab was off of the frame, I installed the 1693 cat engine. The engine was color matched or chrome. All and all, I put over sixty thousand in just the running gear which was the heaviest thirteen speed and two speed axles, the forty eight thousand rated rears.. 3.36 rear gears on the top an the bottom were the 4.11 ratio gears. I was still too high for heavy haul so had the air shift brownie installed also. That eighteen speed would of sure been nice at the time but I hadn't heard of them. Total cost to do it all and have plates and insurance, ready to haul was one hundred and thirty some thousand ... I don't remember the cost of the lighting but it had dual alternators with a standby gen set on the frame. Extra heavy twin steel frame rails with a cab control fifth wheel all mounted on a eight bag air suspension. I remember just before we went on the road, there was a bad storm that put the power out for a good many people for it looked like it would be as long as a month as we had trees down everywhere in the state. I had five houses hooked onto the gen set, a twenty k that just ate fuel but was so dependable. I ran its exhaust inside of the truck stacks. So you could barely hear it running. Everyone worried that I would leave before their power was back on. I must of had ten or more peoples freezers in my yard keeping food cold. I was on a few tv stations for my doing what is right to do. I was a drinker those days. I hadn't drank till the divorce but then turned into a lush. I gave money to folks that couldn't make ends meet. You ask where the money came from?? Well the judge made me sell everything including my business so I had around for my half about sixteen million dollars. It was not a problem for fixing stuff that needed anything. Just because I did the right thing for folks around me, I would walk into a bar and could not spend a dime yet my wife was asked to just leave.. an go as far away as possible... cheating was not considered a cool thing to do. My brother in law and myself hit the road but he got sick...we just didn't know what was wrong. He was married to my sister and they had the best marriage that anyone could ask for. We had left washington and headed empty to california to pick up a special load of freight when we just parked for the night in Roseburg ore., and decided a few beers and a good meal in a hotel was in order... we were not just hungry drivers, we were just bored. We ate dinner and went back to the hotel. Hit the sack and when I got up the next morning, I shook him hollering get out of bed lazy bones... he had passed in the night! He was only forty years old. I was so torn up that I left the truck at a broker joint to come back for it. After seeing my sister torn up.. I knew that driving that rig wasn't for me so just auctioned it off. I don't remember too much about the sale except that the lawyer had his pockets full and I had around twenty thousand dollars for a truck that was much nicer than new. I got stupid drunk after the funeral, I just didn't want to live anymore as he was my brother in my heart, not a in law. I gave my sister a big hunk of money and then went to alaska. I was like feeling that the money I had was cursed so was just handing it out till I had given most of it away. In nineteen ninety five... I got up in a strange hotel... looked around an gave all the booze I had away and have never touched a drop since. I had a nice home in central alaska with a nice little shop and more tools than anyone could ever need. I was helping a older man who was having a hard time with his daily chores so I would go fix his meals an do his laundry up.. make it easy for him to have a nice day. Ray was a heavy large man and so when I was doing his house stuff figured to check on him... he was bored and decided to clean his gutter on his house.. up on a old wooden ladder about twenty feet in the air. I asked him to come down as I would do it for him. He laughs and said "I am just fine an stood on one leg on the wooden ladder, kinda bounced on the rung and it broke! So he is falling and I am right under him so just reached out and caught him. It tore the pocket on his tee shirt but otherwise just fine. It broke my neck in multiple places, and crushed my lumbar vertebra. So after many operations and so close to being broke, went for my seventh operation on my lower back. I never walked again. I had it tough before, and my two dogs were very old so with them put down because of their pain... I had lost the last thing I could lose I felt. I gave my home and shop, all my toys and stuff to my grandson. I rented a cabin from a friend who was quite close to me in so many ways. I still live in the cabin but he passed away in april two years ago. I live on ssi and have to budget everything. I am as close to happy as I will ever be. Now seventy two an close to my next birthday just keep waiting for our savior to take me home

Thanks for posting this. I have an '86 VIT Aerodyne that I am restoring. Mine is about 3 ft longer than yours and I am thinking about shortening it!
Don't discount that early 8 bag suspension, it is a very good suspension! About all that goes wrong with them is the little rubber bushings wear out but they are cheap and easy to change!
They ride really well but your solid mount cab is the culprit if you don't like the ride. When you get that air-ride cab bracket on you won't believe the difference! Air-ride on a conventional is nice but on a cabover it is a MIRACLE!
Please keep posting your progress, there are lots of cabover fans now that cabovers have achieved "Cool" status!

    I like the truck
When I was young I always loved the aerodyn Kenworth trucks I had a poster of
    The 1976 Bicentennial
W900A VIT 200 and that is my favorite truck
Wanted to drive back then until I went to tech school for Diesel Mechanics then after I graduated from HS in 1984 went to a trade school college in Denver, CO
And decided to fix them instead of driving them lol
But would like to get a
    W900L areodyne and
    restore it.
But good luck with the project keep the updates going. 👍🏻
