Getting a lot of hate for this opinion lol. I see maybe I just don’t get the character from how much you guys are showing support for him, I love it! Maybe I just misunderstood him. But this was just my opinion and again, no hate to any of the creators or people with different opinions. Literally just wanted to share my thoughts on the topic.
Don't worry, everyone has their own opinions. I disliked that character, his portrait is very caricature and unnatural. It looks as if he pretending to be a silly rapper instead of being him. And Top's acting was bad. His some kind of resemblance with character doesn't make his acting better.
I think so too. I think his character was meant to be over the top-he was obviously a little crazy. I just don’t know if it was for me, at least not after immediate viewing. May change in time
@ yes! it’s mainly for global appeal so people can understand some of the songs, but also him speaking english in the show is kinda just supposed to make him look more recognizable i think because he’s a pretty well known kpop artist if that makes sense.
Thanos is supposed to be silly, that’s kind of the whole point. He’s supposed to be the comic relief, he’s not serious. He uses the pills to get through the games because he was more rigid before he started taking them. Once he starts using them he lets go of his inhibitions and morality in general because to him, it’s a case of there’s no point in having any of that if you could die any second.
Ah, I can see that. I suppose I’m so used to the “serious grounded reality” in media that a more over-the-top comedic relief is something I’m not used to. Even though in hindsight I’ve definitely met people as energetic and silly as him in real-life. Good take though, maybe need time for it to grow on me.
The term 'rapper' is being thrown loosely in the comments. T.O.P was a former member of BIGBANG and held the ROLE of rapper. BIGBANG is one of the most influential groups in the k-pop industry and are considered a 2nd generation group (debuted 2006) and to my knowledge are still active. His character pays homage to his real life. He wasn't included for 'marketing', but moreso his own little comeback after all the shit BIGBANG has gone through. It's a treat for k-pop fans and BIGBANG fans and is meant for mainly those fans to understand more. Similar to how there are references in Arcane that only League of Legends players would understand.
0:29 so um for second language speakers it can be normal to mix both theyre languages like theyre native or furst language and English.i also think ots a stautes symbol to be able to speak English
i didn't watch s2 but from what i heard he's a washed rapper and everyone you know who's native language isnt english tries to fit the english language in their vocab, that's normal when youre exposed to hiphop culture
Heard. I’m just not used to that and I’ve never seen that before. My family speaks “spanglish” but I always figured that’s just because they still live in an english-speaking country.
people in other countries speak english randomly irl, like in Poland it happens sometimes, but only people who speak english just a little bit do that, when they think its coll and wanna show off, (or when there's a word or a phrasee that doesn't exist in the native language or an inside joke fr. "inside joke")
none of the characters this year were very strong imp especially him but I think they just wrote some random unfunny comic relief character for him so he wasn't supposed to be that strong anyway
I like the character, the only thing I don't understand though is that people defend the character when he literally pushed (killed) people in the first game on purpose. And I don't care that he was high, doesn't justify anything.
People calling him comic relief as if that isn’t obvious, the problem is that none of the other players are actually written well enough so that you actually care about them and therefore need comic relief. Last season the comic relief was the women who killed the bad dude. She was comic relief as well but that was fine because you actually cared about a huge portion of the players that died. The only character I give a damn about this season is the trans women. Like who actually gave af about the crypto sub plot lmao they wasted time on that crap instead of the guys trying to find the island
Yeah, still confused with it but it was funny. I guess it struck me as “this is funny to be funny” and didn’t make sense to me in the story. But maybe I’m taking it too seriously and just having a laugh and some fun characters is okay.
i didn't know he was a rapper irl i guess that explains his bad acing. every time he appeared on screen i looked away because his acting was so cringe to me. i was really happy when he d worded.
so he's a rapper in real life? aw that makes it even worse... imagine if you watched a movie where snoop played the bad guy that was also a rapper... seems like a weird attempt at marketing... he would've been more intimidating if he just had a normal job... like a psychotic barista or some shit
I disagree with you about his use of konglish. I thought it fit his character because he’s supposed to be a somewhat famous Korean rapper who’s obsessed with being cool/hip and America symbolizes that to some people from foreign countries. He’s trying to present an image that screams “I’m not like the other Korean guys.” That’s why he speaks English and dyes his hair purple and does hella drugs and flirts with every baddie in the game. However, I agree with you that his behavior is too cartoonish. It gets to the point that it makes him inconsistent. In the first game, he’s written to be even more ruthless than the bully from season one, but then he never really displays that kind of ruthlessness again and acts like a goofy, cowardly thug the rest of the season. In the end I think the positives outweigh negatives though. His inclusion is even more poetic given the controversy surrounding the actor irl. Casting him in this role is like giving a big middle finger to all the stuck-up, conservative Koreans who tried to ruin this poor guy’s life just for smoking weed.

to be fair he was high the entire season, and i think him speaking english every other sentence was meant to be corny
I think so too. I think his character was meant to be over the top-he was obviously a little crazy. I just don’t know if it was for me, at least not after immediate viewing. May change in time
he speaks english randomly because he’s a kpop artist (in real life) but also a rapper in the show which makes a lot of sense.
Wait, I’m confused how that correlates to english? Is it normal for kpop artists to speak English? (This is genuine curiosity bc idk)
@ yes! it’s mainly for global appeal so people can understand some of the songs, but also him speaking english in the show is kinda just supposed to make him look more recognizable i think because he’s a pretty well known kpop artist if that makes sense.
@ but it was also just meant to be corny/cringy so lmao

You have to admit he’s annoying asf though

Keep yapping for your own happiness lol 😂🤣🤣 Thanos fkn fire
I’m actually glad I did! Seeing how much love he has I’m realizing maybe I just didn’t see what others see. I probably just don’t get the character.
0:29 so um for second language speakers it can be normal to mix both theyre languages like theyre native or furst language and English.i also think ots a stautes symbol to be able to speak English
I actually really enjoyed his character lol. I guess it's very much down to personal preferance.
Yeah the comments on this video shows much more love than what I’ve seen online. Def didn’t hit for me but maybe in time it will.
"He speaks in English radomly"
I'm Indian, that's how most of us speak.
i didn't watch s2 but from what i heard he's a washed rapper and everyone you know who's native language isnt english tries to fit the english language in their vocab, that's normal when youre exposed to hiphop culture

Really enjoyed the character

i love thanos idc
L take
It’s an opinion that’s valid because he’s an obnoxious and horrible character who threatens to hurt women
I like the character, the only thing I don't understand though is that people defend the character when he literally pushed (killed) people in the first game on purpose. And I don't care that he was high, doesn't justify anything.

For me personally his character is comedic relief 😂😂😂whenever he spoke English i laughed tears of joy but he is a funny butthole
Yeah, still confused with it but it was funny. I guess it struck me as “this is funny to be funny” and didn’t make sense to me in the story. But maybe I’m taking it too seriously and just having a laugh and some fun characters is okay.
for asking how a rapper could be in so much debt just look at yk osiris lmao
seriouslyyy everyone is simping over him but hes a terrible character even if he has like 3 slightly funny moments
He's supposed to be a stupid character lol
Which would be fine if any other of the players were actually written well this season lol.
i didn't know he was a rapper irl i guess that explains his bad acing. every time he appeared on screen i looked away because his acting was so cringe to me. i was really happy when he d worded.
no the character is loosely based on his real life and I don’t think his acting was bad that was just the character. TOP has been acting for years
@anahi_xox
No, his acting was really bad. You can portrait silly character and still be believable
so he's a rapper in real life? aw that makes it even worse... imagine if you watched a movie where snoop played the bad guy that was also a rapper... seems like a weird attempt at marketing...
he would've been more intimidating if he just had a normal job... like a psychotic barista or some shit
Now I will tell u you're video sucks
It was just my opinion on the topic lol. I repeated multiple times no hate to anyone just sharing how I felt immediately after finishing the show.
@@crillosity I respect that ..
