    Tate, very impressive what you've done. I just wish the manufacturers of machines would start to incorporate some of your tech into their machines. By yourself, you are outperforming the major brands in innovation. I wish they'd hire you or let you jump start their lame product development teams. Or alternatively, it would be great if you'd make your board available commercially to DIY coffee nerds that want to follow your lead.

      @@tatemazer Tate, keep this up and you'll get that job. They'd be crazy to not hire you. New product development talent is more rare than you may know. Also, if you want to do this mod to an ECM or a Rocket R58, let me know and I'll send you a new one. I would pay for parts and labor too, but I'd want it when you are done! I'd love to get a Tate Mazer original before you get that job and they make you sign a non-compete!

    LM should incorporate some of your ideas (i.e. bloom, flow rate monitoring) into their app. I recently added the retrofit wifi connect kit to my old GS3 and it adds some of these capabilities (prebrew time, preinfusion time, scheduling, etc). But you've really taken full advantage of the possibilities in ways the have not. Very nice.

    Cool stuff! using the pump to build pressure for preinfusion makes sense. Superauto machines do this (Gaggia and Saeco-Phillips at least). I use the following preinfusion method for my Giotto which is plumbed at 3 bar: 1)open valve 2) wait for drips 3)pull shot. Time from start of preinfuse to first drips is about 6 seconds when things are optimal. (grind, headroom).

    somehow I missed this video so now I've got that bell on... this is such wonderful content I really love this kind of stuff. I have a little delonghi dedica deluxe and it seems to do what you're talking about with a preinfusion and then running the pump and I guess its counting pumps kinda like you were or something because I recently changed beans and it's taking waaay longer despite being set by time according to the manual (it must actually set by number of pumps?)
    anyways love your channel. also if you want to mess with fully automatic machines I'd love to know your deep dive opinions since apparently I'm looking for one for work...

    Absolutely fantastic video and a credit to your skills. However, the last LM app update you can do all these features. Not sure if you have a current Gs3 but you have basically done what the new app/ current machine does with your older machine. What would be really cool is using your skills to do an AV machine with MP function. Basically a Strada EP. 👍

    Nice video. Just as a note, your no pump valve open pre-infusion (bloom) does not act as slayer pre-infusion, since there is no flow as soon as the pressure equilibrated. There will be an inrush of water into the puck until pressure in the boiler and at the puck are equal. The reason you see a slow trickle of flow without any puck is a slow but steady drainage of water from the boiler itself through the flow-restrictor. It is the official reason LM does not implement this, because there is theoretical risk of burning you heating element if you left it drain too long. Cheers!

    • @tatemazer
      @tatemazer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's slayer-ish only because it's long 😅, but more similar to just a regular line pressure preinfusion. That's really interesting information about La Marzocco's reasoning. I'm fascinating by the idea that you could drain the group that way. I've got an experiment to try... 🤓

    • @froggymaier
      @froggymaier ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Long for sure 😃
      And I guess draining is more of an issue for the Linea Mini, draining in the GS3s boiler will only occur as long as the water inlet (for the brew head inside the boiler) sits below water level..

    hi, this is really incredible. I have a La Marzocco GS3 MP but it is from 2016 so no ability to pressure profile. on reservior so no line pressure. i have noticed if i activate the paddle part of the way the valve opens to boiler pressure but haven't played around with that (but i will now that i have seen this). would this mod work for the MP as well? Very cool! I'd like one of your boards.
    Question: Why don't you just go with a BLDC gear pump with full flow/pressure control? Then you could have a decent-style graph where you change the flowrate or the pressure over time by adjusting some sliders?
    I have a mod in the works replacing a vibe pump for a BLDC gear pump. It will be totally analog, so the end result will be a little box with a potentiometer 0-5V controlling the pump and a tachometer display that will show the ml/s which I can derive from the rpm.
    I'd LOVE to have a profile programmed that I could run every time the pump comes on, but that's beyond me. Maybe you can do it and sell me a board? lol.
    EDIT: I see you did that already on your previous machine minus the board control of the pump. Any plans to work on that?

    • @tatemazer
      @tatemazer  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you saw the other video! Yes this video was mostly focused on the idea of the capabilities of a machine without modifying anything but the circuit board.
      The Rocket was a much different story. That machine does control the pump from the circuit board, however it doesn't have any feedback control loops quite yet. Unfortunately the circuit board isn't quite ready to sell, but happy to hear your interest! 🤓

    Full marks for the labels on your PCB. Sounds dumb, but you could splice in a vibe pump and fully modulate the flow for cheap. It would seem like a shame, but if you make it easily reversible, you could see if it's worthwhile rather than going full gear pump $$$.

    • @tatemazer
      @tatemazer  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      😂 that's doesn't sound dumb at all! I'm literally working on that exact idea, my experience with gear pumps is they're simply too expensive and love the idea of having the same functionality with a vibe pump

    GS3 ignorant here. does the gs3 volumetric flow meter include a flow sensor at puck level? does gs3 have pressure sensor at puck level? cool mods and i always liked engineering

    • @tatemazer
      @tatemazer  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! The flowmeter is downstream of the pump and reasonably accurate since it doesn't use an opv to maintain the pressure. I usually see it accurate to about a half a gram. The pressure gauge for the brew pressure is just at the boiler, not the puck. However the GS3 MP version does have a pressure gauge at the puck

    Well I’m disappointed at the high speed of the DF83 flat burr and now I’m searching online for some power controller to see If I can run it at a lower power without killing it. The motor tends to overheat so I wonder if it’s being fed too much power which could make lower power operation possible (since lower power would tend to kill a motor) but after seeing this vid it maybe worth a try. 😅

    • @tatemazer
