The modern shoegaze scene is super alive. Holy fawn is definitely a good experience of the newest kinda post- shoegaze sound. Whirr, grivo, glassing and dead sun. Where mbv started it broke into the sister genre dream pop where the sound of mbv lays and shoegaze now it this HUGE wall of sound and distortion. If you like the dissociate emotion that shoe gaze has but with more fry screams please listen to glassing.
I'm glad you enjoyed this song. Holy Fawn is by far my favorite Shoegaze band. Really hope you get a chance to revisit them later. I'd definitely recommend their song Arrows from the same album (the next track actually) it's probably my favorite song of theirs and I think you'd actually enjoy it quite a bit. It's got some great melody lines in it, it also shows that Holy Fawn even has some almost black metal in them as well.
Both Have A Nice Life and this band surprised me in a really good way. I can see some post-rock influences bleeding into both songs and I love that. This one in particular sounded like a harsher Sigur Rós track at many times. Really interesting stuff and will have to check more!
Holy Fawn is one of my favorite bands ever. My favorite song by them is Blood Pact, which is one of their newer songs, though I’ve been a fan ever since they released Death Spells.
Haven't heard of these guys but this was interesting. Sounds like a crossover between post-metal and shoegaze. On paper that should be a combination that works quite well. The tricky part would be balancing the heavy distortion and weight of post-metal with the heavy effects and atmosphere of shoegaze, and I think this pulled it off really well. Will definitely be checking out more from them.
This was my favorite of this week as well and was either my favorite or 2nd favorite of when I went and checked out the 10 songs up for the poll (the other was Nothing - Famine Asylum). Congrats on being back on schedule and I absolutely agree that the theme weeks help organize the channel and allow for more thought/insight on each individual track than if everything was a one off. They're also just fun and allow the community to have a voice in the direction of the channel.
Thanks for doing what you do Brian! I always reply before i watch you react so if you said something in your breakdown that I repeat, we just think alike lol This for me really sold the idea that a harsher vocal style can fit in harmonious places. Usually that kind of screaming comes off as so abrasive but in this track it was just as smooth and part of the atmosphere as any other instrument. Probably where it was in the mix, but it worked really well. Kudos to them. Fantastic listen, will be checking these guys out more.
This is the one that hits me the most from the shoegaze theme. Beautiful and exciting harmonies - you get delicately touched - and slapped!.. Sometimes simultaneously.
I just went on a shoegaze kick and found these guys. If you liked them, I highly recommend listening to Blanket. Some of their good ones are "The Last Days of the Blue Blood Harvest" "White Noise" and "Where the Light Takes Us".
I'd love to see you check out something from their album Realms, maybe Colossus or Amulet. It's a bit closer to I guess what you'd call more "traditional" shoegaze, but still very strongly melodic.
I fucking love this band. The vocals being low in the mix definitely threw me off when I first discovered them but the more I listened to them the more I appreciated it and how it adds to the mood. They do a great job on other songs mixing melody and black metal
One of the ultimate shoe gazer bands is Mew (yeah you probably never heard of them). I think you would find their song "Introducing palace players" quite interesting.
Yeah in retrospect I should have recommended them for the poll but didn't realize they'd fit. Not up on the genres as much as I could be. They would have been great. In general I didn't realize that Shoegaze and Dream Pop have some crossover so there's other bands I could have probably recommended that I didn't realize I could have like Beach House.
I mentioned in one of the other videos from this week it's a crying shame Cocteau Twins didn't make the poll. They're not only my favorite shoegaze band, but one of my favorite bands of all-time period.
Songs i would love you to check out! All really good artists. The Contortionist - Expire Iron Thrones - I Once Had the Crown Ever Forthright - Screen Scenarios
If you're interested in getting back to music with shoegaze. You should definitely check out the band Palehorse/Palerider all of their songs are great and they could use some publicity.
You should check out the band Dråpe and songs of them like Pie in The Sky, My Friend The Scientist or There is a House. I think they have much better vocals than most of the Shoegaze stuff. You should also check out Hundredth - Neurotic
Still looking for real reactions not “I know music here’s what this song sounds like” that’s not a reaction. A reaction is what the lyrics are about the point behind the song.
thank you so much for your thoughtful and kind review friend.
Honestly the pleasure was all mine! This was a fantastic listen and I look forward to checking out more.
@@CriticalReactions Their best is 'Take me with you'. Closest I've been able to compare it to is knife prty, but mostly in terms of vibe, not sound.
LOVE Holy Fawn, I'm glad you found some stuff you like in this song! Fun fact, Kardashev and Holy Fawn share a bassist!
No way! That is absolutely wild to me that you two share a bassist. Keep on keepin' on Mark!

I don't know yet your opinion on this, but great pick, Holy Fawn is great and this track as well
"vocals are pushed way down" and thats just the single! listen to the album, they are so deep in the mix its euphoric!

This was the very first song I heard from holy fawn, now I have every album and get to live shows when they come to town. so good.
So happy to find someone I could watch hear this for the first time.
Such a beautifully slow bender of a song. Great vid!

Some good suggestions would be Seer, Arrows, Drag Me Into The Woods, and Candy
I love Holy Fawn, you should check out Grivo, or Palehorse/palerider!

Just found this band myself. They are phenomenal. Nice job on the review/reaction.

I’ve agreed with everything you’ve said. Just got into this band two days ago and it’s been on loop since.
I fucking love this band. The vocals being low in the mix definitely threw me off when I first discovered them but the more I listened to them the more I appreciated it and how it adds to the mood. They do a great job on other songs mixing melody and black metal
"Seer" would be an awesome song to see you react to
Deftones did an acoustic version of Knife Party which is super melodic and shoegazy. live in hawaii i think it was
HF isn't your typical shoegaze band, they have thier unique sound and energy, alt-deft-metal-gaze-post-doom-goth-emo-indie-whatever
One of the ultimate shoe gazer bands is Mew (yeah you probably never heard of them). I think you would find their song "Introducing palace players" quite interesting.
65 Days of Static. The Fall of Math and "I swallowed Hard, Like I Understood".
If you want something pre MBV, check out Cocteau Twins

I love Holy Fawn, my favorite songs are Seer, Vespertine & Blood Pact.
This band is so fucking sick :D Glad u listened to them
Songs i would love you to check out! All really good artists.
The Contortionist - Expire
Iron Thrones - I Once Had the Crown
Ever Forthright - Screen Scenarios
Holy Fawn rulesone of my fav bands, also check B&E by Nothing too!
great band, great song! And great channel!

Now if you ever went back to 4:14 of Sleep Token Thread The Needle you'll know it was a fat rip of shoegaze along with the djent, and pop! :)
That's not a bad idea as a whole, returning to more fringe stuff from the earlier months of the channel and seeing them through new eyes.
@@CriticalReactions That would be really cool, and more suited for a stream imo because you've already paid editing dues
Dopest band last 30 years..
ASK Randy Blythe from Lamb of God
