    Guys, this video is stunning but it's your banter and verbal enjoyment of what we're seeing that makes this so compelling. Great vid!

    The fish at 2:20 they call Chimaera is beautiful, it makes me think of a butterfly and a stingray.

    • @TheCarbonCreed
      @TheCarbonCreed 8 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      It's a Chimaera, it's actually more closely related to a shark than to a ray. I love their eyes, very haunting.

    • @dyland5847
      @dyland5847 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My understanding is that the chimera is a common ancestor of both sharks and rays.

      @@dyland5847 a more accurate saying is that they would be that sharks, rays and chimera share a common ancestor. Your statement is equivalent to saying Bonobos is the Humans common ancestor, when they simply resemble the same common ancestor more than us :) The more you know!

    Hey y'all! I love watching your exploration! Going to space is all good but we don't even know how to survive in our very own ocean! This is exciting stuff! I do wish you would do more close ups and when you do zoom in don't focus just on their heads! I want to see a close up of the entire animal also!

    I'd say that was lingcod.

  • @ChimeraActual
    @ChimeraActual 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That Chimera is great! I love them, but never saw one use their pec's like that. They're cartilaginous fish, like sharks and rays and probably related way, way back. In that shot you can see that they use those pec's very much like a ray does.
    I count three chimera: the swimmer, the tail of one above the Rockfish at 5:24, and the sweep of the tail at 6:08. Anyone see any more?

    There’s area where we were unable to fish with static nets(or crab pots), because any fish that stops moving, ends up looking just like that dead fish, in just five or six hours, because they are eaten out(just the head, bones and skin aren’t eaten) by what we called sea fleas, and they must be living down in the sea floor, but only in the softer/sandy parts that suits them(we know this from the echo sounder), in their millions, if not in their thousands of millions.!.!.!.!.

      They drop the ROV from a sea ship, usually a research ship stationed out where they are, and they drop it off the back or side to float down.
      Usually you can see a very thick yellow cable - that's the control lead from the RVO to the research ship.

      Not all marine biologists are fish experts. They may specialize in plankton or invertebrates. If they are oceanographers, they wouldn't really study organisms at all: instead they would focus on the physical properties of the ocean.
