Named my first child Oloyelei, the sound of this name was stuck in my head. I’m born and raised in Washington state in America. Not sure the meaning but hopefully my daughter grows to learn more of her ancestors than I did.

Thank you very much for this here piece. As an Olumegbon who now lives in America, I grew up listening to this one. i can still sing it from start to finish like Okuboro said.
The accompanying picture of Oba Adeniji Adele introducing Queen Victoria to the Idejos on her first visit to Nigeria in 1956 is a masterpiece. You totally killed this one!
    Again, thank you my brother.

THE BEAUTY OF THIS TYPE OF MUSIC IS THAT IT TELLS A LOT OF HISTORY ABOUT ISALE-EKO AND LAGOS ISLAND IN GENERAL. I REMEMBERED MY FATHER TELLING ME TO GO TO OJU IGA AND BUY BEER AT BABA LATI DOSUNMU SHOP WHENEVER HE HAS GUESTS. INFACT THAT WAS LATI KEKERE, THERE WAS ANOTHER BABA LATI DOSUNMU AT THE ADENIJI ADELE HOUSE TOWARDS EBUTE. I AM GRACIOUS TO THIS FOUNDING FATHERS WITH THE WAYS THEY SHARED THERE KNOWLEDGE FOR GENERATIONS TO COME TO BENEFIT FROM IT.

This evergreen record by the legendary Lefty Salami is one of his greatest. Most Lagosians who loves great Sakara music would sing this song from start to finish. Salami Lefty who earned the nickname lefty because he was a left hander was multi talented, a singer, drummer, boxer, soldier( fought in Burma war), barber, carpenter etc. He and Yusufu Olatunji remains my all time favourites. EgbaAlake you're blessed.

Like wise Yussuf Olatunji,Saka Olaigbade(I attended his party very well) Ayinla Omowura,Ligali Mukaiba and so on.

These are the kinds of Yoruba (Nigerian) music that make you have sense of belonging to your culture. Just like Folklore music in US, it is easy to memorize the wordings and lyrics from A to Z. But you have to understand it, to appreciate it. UP EPETEDO, Lagos Island! Thank you, Senator Sanni, for taking me to memory lane.

First, thank u EgbaAlake for posting these classical Yoruba records. I might be hearing the name Lefty Salami for the first time, maybe because I'm not from Eko.
Secondly, a suggestion: Yoruba people of our generation should listen regularly to all these Yoruba classics. If I became governor of a Yoruba state today, I would make the study of these classics part of the school curriculum from primary to university level. How come we stop appreciating our heritage. "Yoruba Ro'nu".
