I’m going to go with the one who has the most parts availability and cost of ownership is lowest. Ineos has a more rugged design but euros usually cost a lot. Especially with a BMW engine.
As a Grenadier owner and lover, I think you have been very fair in your appraisal of the Grenadier. In the real world I fully understand why Toyota would be your logical choice. Great support network and a legendary reputation for reliability. At the same time, my Grenadier provides me with a similar vibe when it comes to reliability. Dealer support is another question. Best of luck to you and family, going forward.
Growing up our parents had a two-door valiant with room for maybe four, that's it. The number of kids in the family was irrelevant. We sat on top of each other and were happy to get out of the house. BTW there was seven of us.
For your current family size, I’d go 3 rows with captains chairs in 2nd row. Easy access to 3rd and lots of space, it’s been the best set up for us with 3 kids. G550 with Exec package? Sequoia?
Based on his time to take delivery and the three row requirement that narrows it down to the new Mazda Prius Raptor AT4-R. You can take that to the bank.
Hard to beat a minivan for practicality, lol! I am a fuel range nut as well which is why I buy the F150's with the 36 gal tank. I Added the LRA tank to my JL which boosted my range from 280 to 450. Fox makes a great riding shock. It is hard to beat the longevity of a Bilstein. Most other brands require frequent rebuilds.
We raised our son in a mini cooper S in 2007 When he turned three the new countryman was in the market on got one. Now my son is 16 and I bought last week the Land Cruiser 1958 and he said to me he want a small car ! Each family has different needs
I have a HE LC, adding a LRA tank was a game changer. The 12.5gallon lets you keep your spare underneath still. Keep the 200 and Grenadier, trade the 250 and get a Lexus TX. That’s our main family hauler and we love it. Edit: I have adjustable Kings on my LC and they are dope. Get them from Ben at Filthy Motorsports he will make sure your spring rates and valving are everything you need. Super smart guy with tons of 200 expertise.
On the 200.... Icon No... Dobinson MMR - good choice (3 way adjustable)... I am doing a KDSS Kit to allow unto 35"s on a 2" lift, check Mud for the thread next week on it.
OME BP51 for the 200 series no need to look at anything else. Have them on mine and they are absolutely perfect. I wouldnt switch to anything else no matter the cost.
@@BenHardyCarsso what will you get. I have a BRaptor but was looking at the GX 550 Overtrail+ and the Sequoia TRD Pro. I am torn. Thoughts I think you have either had all of them or driven them all. I am not doing much off-road.
If I was going to purchase a quality aftermarket shock I would get an adjustable shock to meet my driving demands, old man emu shock is a basic shock but something adjustable is very nice, I’m a big supporter of fox shocks and I don’t know if they have anything available for your vehicle yet also another shock to look at which is totally re-buildable is falcon adjustable shocks they’re very well known in the jeep industry, What you’re getting when you spend the money on an expensive shock is something without stiction meaning the shock goes in and out of its chamber without friction it uses high-quality metals/aluminum and heating processes so there’s much less expansion and contraction along with extremely high quality non-stiction seals but a high-quality shock also needs to be rebuilt over time because of the non-stiction components where a cheap shock you just bolted in use it until it’s gone, but I would definitely get something that’s adjustable there are companies out there that do their own valving etc. and I just don’t understand why they don’t make all shocks adjustable with compression and rebound dampening, Some shocks have high and low speed compression adjusters and a few also have a rebound adjustment and the most important is the shock is running cool instead of a cheap shock that gets very hot.
Icon is better for daily driving. A bit more stiff, will eat highway bumbs better. Kings will be more soft, will have more wobble over bumps. I vote icons even tho they don't look at cool at the king shocks. They are better for daily driving.
Congratulations on the future addition to the family. I like the look and vibe of the Grenadier and would lean that direction. But you can’t go wrong with a Land Cruiser. Still missing the Bronco videos! Good luck! 🍀
When my wife was pregnant with our second, we went everywhere because we assumed we wouldn't want to do anything with a newborn and a toddler. We ended up taking both of them everywhere we went, had the opposite effect.
Hertiage will hopefully be a long term keeper. Shock wise, I think it really depends on what you are looking for in terms of your off road use. 2" OME is obviously the standard for these types of builds. Personally, I would start with leveling the front out first. Doesn't cost much and will give a sneak peak at what you think about a lift on a 200. I did this on my mine and felt like that was enough for my use case. Tricking this out for off road and using it as a daily really takes its toll if you are constantly hoisting yourself in and out and not hitting the trails.
For the LC200, get the Dobinsons MRR suspension. They consistently have the best springs(variable rate) and the shocks are fully adjustable for compression and rebound. I like Kings as well. I'd keep the grenadier. It is so cool. Dump the prado.
Ben, as you said you can't order the one you want in the spec you want, that sounds like a Toyota/Lexus. In that case, I'd keep the Grenadier... if only for some content variety.
With respect to Old Man Emu or Ikon. I put a lift on a 4Runner which I built almost identical to the one Jason Koertge used to have on his channel, and as expected the 4Runner was a beast. That being said it was also noisy, as in the components would click and pop and I did have a shock fail after 6 months. Fast forward to a Jeep Gladiator that I put an Ikon lift and shocks on…waaay better quality components. Never heard a peep out of any of the bushings, control arms, shocks or springs. And everything fit perfectly. Just my take on your question.
Get your wife a Subaru Wilderness Outback for the great safety features and if you really need a 3rd row right now, go with the Ascent. You want something easy for her to load car seats more. Lost my faith in the new Toyotas and their reliability.
@TJ-8 i would not have bought old toyotas because they were overpriced and have no features. I would say the new forester looks good and is more practical than the crosstrek in terms of space and cargo area.
Meant Outback ( corrected it) Crosstrek is too small. Outback has a more sporty look than a Forrester and a lot of room in the back. Either way, make it easy for the Mom. It's hard to reach in big SUVs to hook in car seats and get in and out of them with a baby/ child. Keep a separate SUV/ Truck vehicle for you Ben.
@TJ-8 I mean yeah outback isn't bad but I personally like the forester more than the crosstrek don't know which I would pick out of forester and outback.
Congrats 🎉🎉🎉 - Keep the Grenadier. I am thinking about getting Nimbus for my Grenadier, you should try them for the Toyota. Would love to see your review.
Yup, the AHC does wonders for comfort of rear passengers, esp. in corners on high-way. To get that level of stability you would need very firm springs on US-spec KDSS LC200 with zero lift. With AHC, you get both worlds. I have both KDSS LC150 and AHC LC200 and I know which one will not make rear passengers vomit speeding through corners and mountain passes in Europe :- ).

We have 5 cars, 2 are EV's which do 90% of the daily driving and they are both charged from 1 - 120V Level 1 charger with no issues.
