I'm half Austrian and this movie is about my ancestors. They overdo it with the bishops here. Too many of them. And when I married, they wanted me to do this very entrance to the altar but I refused. I'm not following my husband down the aisle. If he wanted me, he had to wait for me. In the end, I had this entrance with exactly the same music and my mother and mother-in-law by my side but my husband had to wait for me at the altar. It was the 20th century and not the 19th. Emperor, king or not, if he wanted me, he had to show endeavours. I'm not sure if I lived in Sisi's time, maybe I would have complied. But I live now.

Brazil' first empress was an Austrian archduchess who married in Wien before coming to Brazil. She became probably the most influential and important woman in Brazilian history, even our national colors were chosen by her.The yellow on the Brazilian flag is Austrian,it is the house of Habsburg yellow, and an homage to our Austrian empress! I'm Austrian and this is how the girls are married off in my family, whether they want it or not. Some old rhytes are still there although aristocracy has been abolished. It's all politics. Franz Josef certainly fell in love with her and with time, he loved her but she didn't love him. It was his will to marry her and she had to comply and be grateful that the Emperor of Austria loved her. She had no choice. I know this movie in and out and still watch it, but reality was different.

@@elizabethpease947 Yes I realize that its a film an not a documentary, however, does seem to be a very odd musical choice for the film makers. Even if they don't know what was actually performed at the Imperial wedding ceremony the could have chosen something from one of the composers to the Imperial court rather than something that was written a composer to the English court in a foreign language. No one at the time would have permitted music written both by and for Protestants at an official Catholic Imperial wedding.

Music's all wrong, it's the Halleluya Chorus from Handel's Messiah. Protestant music at this most Catholic of weddings!

Not to mention that no groom lead a bridal procession and until very recently no woman would have accompanied a bride to the altar. If their was no suitable male family member or court official she would have walked alone. It also seems unlikely that there were that many cardinals, bishops or abbots in the entire empire let alone at court.
