Extra initiative- the feeling that you get when someone asks you “I love that outfit, where did you get it?” and you get to say “I actually got this from a charity shop” is THE BEST!
Dominique is making a huge impact. To be honest, the things she has shared opened my eyes to a new way of living that's more sustainable. Keep it up! You are extraordinary. Thank you! Kudos to Kat Barrell for joining.
last month i was out doing my normal thrifting rounds, and i spotted something. it caught my eye, and i found myself coming back to it throughout my perusal of the shop. finally, i decided to grab the gorgeous dark green dress with velvet bodice and try it on. i wasn’t expecting much because it didn’t have a tag with a size, and on the hanger seemed far too big for my petite body. as i zipped it up, i saw so much potential. i frantically texted my mum, telling her i’d just found my dream prom dress for 11$, but it was about two sizes too big. she convinced me to grab it, and i did. we took it to the tailor the next day, and sent it off to be fixed up. later in the week, i went to pick it up, and with a solemn face the owner told me their intern had mistakenly attempted to iron the velvet, crushing some of it. i tried it on, found it to fit like a glove, and knew i would figure out a solution to hide the crushed pile. they waved the fee (meaning the dress was still only 11$ instead of the ~50$ the tailoring would’ve added), and i was on my way. a few tears later, my mum and i found some beautiful lace appliqué from our friend’s shop, and snagged it for around 14$. we sewed it on, covering the crushed velvet bits, as well as beautifully framing the dress with added flare. my perfect prom dress that i worked so hard on turned out to be a mere 25$, but when i asked my friends about it, they said it looked like it was from a high end boutique. this was a crazy experience, but has been well worth it, and i’m absolutely in love with the results. thrifting can bring about magical finds, this is just my favorite story.
This video makes my heart so warm, you get to do your bit towards making a difference using your platform whilst also having, what seemed like, so much fun! So sad I haven't been able to make it to ClexaCon yet, fingers crossed for next year 🤞🏻💕
Thank you for starting this movement Dom! And Kat for believing and supporting in it too! I for one, am not aware that the fashion industry affect the world in such a disturbing and despressing way. And this video is so informative and also has suggestive solutions that actually helps our home. Hope to see more of this and I'm sure to share it with my friends. I love you both xoxo
I love shopping at Goodwill. Almost all my clothes come from it. No point to spend extra money and it helps people in the community shopping there. Awesome guys!
Where I live a lot of people think of second hand shopping as something embarrassing, even gross and also time consuming. That was also how I used to look at it as a kid. Now I buy used clothes more often than new ones and most of my favorite pieces come I own come from there. It's also so satisfying to find a really dope piece for like a 1/10 of it's original value. What you're starting here with this project is really important and the idea combined with this incredible energy of you both can be a great force :)
You have already been able to inspire me to be more aware of fast fashion and second hand shopping and to be kind with our mother Gaia (Earth). I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and I'm more aware. Thank you
Amazing! Second hand shops have loads of gems. There's this book by Jojo moyes, still me, where the main character Lou has a love for eclectic peices. Which spawns a passion to set up her own shop. It's the little things in life aye!
This right here is so important! I'm so happy that you guys made this video, it's about the best thing you could have done. As a designer I fully understand what you're talking about and if anyone would like to know a bit more about Fast Fashion, I really encourage you to watch the movie "The True Cost", it's eye-opening. Dom I seriously love you, doing this was GENIUS. And I loved your outfits so much, you looked awesome!
You two are so wonderful. I've bought all my clothes & my kids' clothes from 2nd hand stores for the past 20 years. You two are sweet to make that a cool thing!
This is amazing! I've been buying my clothes like this for a few years now, and it's great to see a person I look up to inspiring so many people to do the same! Besides the the posibilities you named, I also have two more: there are some brands that produce new clothes under way better surcumstances. They still produce in developing countrys, but they look for safety and pay the workers a fair amount of money, which is great because these people need the job so desperatly. The Fair Wear Foundation labels are always good. There are also some who produce their products ecologicly, without poluting our planet, GOTS labels those ones. Another thing we have (at least in Germany) are flea markets for clothes, where people sell their old clothes for a (usually) low price. Those are fun, because you get lots of different styles at the same place, and some even have live music and foodstands, so you get the full entertainment program whilst shopping
This is such a good idea! I wish there were some proper big thift stores near where I live, we just have a few small charity shops and they're only really any use when I'm looking for a costume when I'm playing a middle-aged/elderly suburban woman!
i am so lucky to have a sewing machinist for a mum as she can take scraps from old curtains, cushions, bedding and sheets and turn them into new items, like more cushions, curtains and bedding!
I looove Value Village! When I lived in Toronto for a year I was really surprised these big shops even existed. Here in France we don't have that at that level, it's just vintage stores really expensive or really small boutiques.
Loved the video you two, loved the outfits that you picked out. I love going shopping at opportunity shops, finding clothes that would be almost 3 times the price in its original store, and getting it for much cheaper. I used to only go to opp shops to find costume items but now I go there to buy costume items as well as my everyday clothing.
Ahhh I love thrifting. Thrifting is actually trending and it’s nice to know that it also helps the planet. I’m not sure if this is going to be a series, but it should :)
Wow. Welcome to my life. Wifey lives in the charity shops. We are working on clothes fr our cruise ight now. ( Wellmore me as wifey got sorted quick tee hee). Love that peeps are doing this. Thank you for doing this. BTW your outfits look fabbo. :)
Just when I thought I couldn't love them more, they go ahead and always prove me wrong. Thank you for being amazing role models on and off camera. ❤❤❤❤

All my clothes are of second hands because I love vintage clothing so, this is an amazing way to help the Earth.
Some years ago I was living in Seattle and I decided to quit my job, pack up my car and just leave without much of a plan. I ended up selling most of my stuff, and a ton of it ended up at Goodwill. So the next time I settled down I decided to buy as much stuff from thrift stores as I could, because I realized it was just going to end up back there someday anyway! You're right that it's a lot of fun. And it's so much cheaper. It's like, before we go and create all this new stuff why don't we use what's already here? I love you guys; thanks for making these videos. :)
I love thrift stores! But also we must always remember to buy less, avoid consuming tons of things. It is very important to recycle but never forget reducing ;)
Wish there were more places to shop for pre owned clothes here in England. I work as a volunteer at St lukes (a charity shop) in my spare time and those are the most we have. Sometimes you can find amazing things but our shops arnt large and we don't have space to sell loads.
I didn't know that vintage meant that its over a decade old... I thought it meant like second hand. Which is kind of what it is but I didn't think that it was from that long ago. I just assumed when it was like over a week or so that the shop would like just bin it or something. Or even the shop owners would take them and give it to there family. Now I know what Vintage means. Thanks :) :) :) xxx
Here in Australia, it's actually cheaper to shop in proper shops. I have however found ONE second hand store that has most of their clothing under $15 AND it's not broken like most of our second hand stores (I found a cute AF dress last week at a different store, but it was completely laddered and ripped), or if it is broken they give it to you cheaper!! My most ridiculous find I have found in a second hand store is $200 for a pair of jeans because they were "designer" - they weren't..
que lindas ver hacer este tipo de videos. lastima que no obtuvimos muchos mas videos de ellas. se que el canal esta enfocado a otras cosas pero hubiera sido muy lindo
I buy 90% of my clothing second hand and wear almost exclusively Ralph Lauren and other designer brands. It helps if you live in a city with either a lot of yuppies or a thriving gayborhood.
I’m a girl with a lot of curves, so I don’t always find clothing at consignment shops. However, the clothing that I try to buy is clothing that is high quality (so a little more on the expensive side) and is fashionable at any time of the year/never goes out of style. I have pants that I have worn for over 6 years and tops that I’ve worn for over a decade. If they start to wear down, I get them fixed. So, I may spend a hundred or so on a pair of black pants, but I know that those black pants will last, won’t go out of style, and look good on me/fit me well.
this is amazing!!this video made me so happy! i think it is so sweet seeing you guys together and making the world a better place, can't wait for the next video. i can't wait to try and make the world a better place. Does anyone know if Australia has any good places to go??
Dom, thank you so much for everything you've done. I've always wanted to go vegetarian purely just because I like animals, but I never actually thought i'd be able to- but now I've managed to convince my mum to let me go vegetarian (as long as I learn to cook and buy my own foods) and I want to go vegan once I move out of my house. Your videos have sent me down a spiral of documentaries and youtube videos on how to save the planet! I'm going to start buying second hand from now on. My family was never one to care about the environment, but because of you, I've become the biggest nerd lol. My friend and I have started becoming big nature nerds, so we've started meeting up in all places around our area to clean up. Not so typical 14-year-old things to do with friends lmao, but we both love it and talk the whoooole time about our passion for the earth and animals. I've introduced her to your videos as well, we're going second-hand store hunting this Thursday after school! Because as of now I don't actually know where any stores are. I would have never even had any second thoughts about buying clothes within the fast fashion industry without you. You are so amazing, using your platform for the good. Bless xx
that’s one haught friend you have there dom
Sarah McGrath AHAHAHH
Awwww the way Dom rub Kat's arm for being too cold😍
I used to work at value village...I would've PASSED OUT if y'all walked in
My favorite thing is that I've seen Dominique in a lot of these outfits in cons.
Extra initiative- the feeling that you get when someone asks you “I love that outfit, where did you get it?” and you get to say “I actually got this from a charity shop” is THE BEST!
When Aquarius & Aries woman worked hand in hand: power couple.
@@cooliewoolie5820 You're right, they have the same age, it's mind blowing
i am shocked that dom is aries but i guess it comes out in kindness and her nervous fast talking
This is an inspiring video from two amazing women. Thank you Dominique and Kat.
Dom and Kat are awsome
I know it’s two years late, but I love your profile pic!
They are the best!
Dom trying to warm Kat at 2:01 is so adorable

Sorry i have a tear in my eye, so proud of you two and happy because my fav two people on tv had this initiative
last month i was out doing my normal thrifting rounds, and i spotted something. it caught my eye, and i found myself coming back to it throughout my perusal of the shop. finally, i decided to grab the gorgeous dark green dress with velvet bodice and try it on. i wasn’t expecting much because it didn’t have a tag with a size, and on the hanger seemed far too big for my petite body. as i zipped it up, i saw so much potential. i frantically texted my mum, telling her i’d just found my dream prom dress for 11$, but it was about two sizes too big. she convinced me to grab it, and i did. we took it to the tailor the next day, and sent it off to be fixed up. later in the week, i went to pick it up, and with a solemn face the owner told me their intern had mistakenly attempted to iron the velvet, crushing some of it. i tried it on, found it to fit like a glove, and knew i would figure out a solution to hide the crushed pile. they waved the fee (meaning the dress was still only 11$ instead of the ~50$ the tailoring would’ve added), and i was on my way. a few tears later, my mum and i found some beautiful lace appliqué from our friend’s shop, and snagged it for around 14$. we sewed it on, covering the crushed velvet bits, as well as beautifully framing the dress with added flare. my perfect prom dress that i worked so hard on turned out to be a mere 25$, but when i asked my friends about it, they said it looked like it was from a high end boutique. this was a crazy experience, but has been well worth it, and i’m absolutely in love with the results. thrifting can bring about magical finds, this is just my favorite story.

Finally, a cause that I think is much needed in our time. It's all win win. You save money & the environment.

I can't stop smiling because of Dominique’s cuteness 😍😍💞
Be kind with our mother EARTH ♥️♥️ I love it... 😊 😊 😊 I will do it!!!
Thank you Dom & Kat. I tend to buy most of my clothes from second hand and vintage shops, then customise them. Great video!
