    The Largest Stolen Valor Fraud in United States History was discovered February 2022. Sarah Cavanaugh, AKA Sarah Bregler of East Greenwich Rhode Island, claimed to have been a wounded Marine Veteran with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan where she was engaged in combat, wounded, and later awarded a Bronze Star with Valor. Over the course of several years Sarah used her false wounded Veteran status to scheme Veteran Charities, the VA, VFW and other organizations out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The FBI and VA Office of the Inspector General have laid federal charges against her and the total amount of fraud has been released.

      Some Veterans milk the system. When I served in the 1980s, no one talked about service related disability. When I started working for the VA as a medical provider, I was appalled at the enticement syndrome from certain demographics that think they are owed everything and many of them never served in combat. I had several Veterans with severe PTSD that served multiple deployments to sit holes in the Middle East refuse any type of disability despite the fact that they easily would be rated 100% and several were homeless. I also witnessed several no veterans work the VA for thousands of dollars as well as VSOs. The VA enables this behavior.

I don't need it.

I explained he's not taking free money from the military, he's taking much needed resources away from guys that actually need it. Meanwhile my wounded Korean war vet grandfather can't afford his diabetic shoes and has to wear shoes with holes in them until the VA can help him out twice a year. I’m not a veteran, so my opinion is invalid here. However, I would still like to put out there.
      When I was in high school I was in JROTC, we wore ACUs, and then we got OCPs. We also wore the dress uniform. I was also apart of the Young Marines, and wore the woodland pattern uniforms, I was also apart of the Civil Air Patrol and wore the ABU.
      I was also apart of some after school military groups that were student ran, and they liked us to wear military uniforms.
      However, I don’t necessarily see a problem with wearing a uniform as long as people aren’t using it to scam others out of money, and or any other benefits such as the person listed in this case.
      Wearing it as a costume, or a part of groups that help the community, and or wearing it too look cool is not an issue. The issue arises when people start to claim military service when they have not served whatsoever, and trying to take money away from organizations that give to those who have served.
      Again, I haven’t served, so I know my opinion isn’t valid, but I would just like to throw it out there.

    Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!!!!!!! It never ceases to amaze me the things people, who are to chicken @#$% to do themselves, will claim just to be just like the 1% of us who actually took the oath. It sickens me. Unfortunately, I am embarrassed to admit that I had to deal with a case of stolen valor in my own family, so yes, the subject of "Stolen Valor" really really pisses me off. On a lighter note, love the "[Foxtrot] Games" shirt where can I get one

    Is this what federal agencies actually enforcing the law and protecting rights looks like? Because this actually feels like justice... unlike feds going after certain investigative journalists for -possessing- _trying to hand over_ certain laptops and diaries that _surely_ aren't legitimately tied to prominent well-connected political figures...

    If a man can believe he/she is a woman and compete in sports, than why can't a non- marine believe she is a marine (maybe even a combat vet)? The same level of delusion in both cases.

I have family who served in almost ever branch except the air force, fingers crossed for my niece. My grandfather received the purple 💜. I have family who have actual PTSD. I love my country. I never took that extra step to be a soldier. So to all that served, much respect. And thank you so much for your service.

    I think "stolen valor" should be set as a "special circumstance" provision of law violation. That way, if proven guilty, said valor stealer would have extra time added to each count. Maybe that would deter them. Are all the charities going to do a verification of their clients to ensure they are REALLY vets? The VA dropped the ball on this big time. Should have verified her service since she was probably hired under a "special program" hire. Ah, another charge perhaps?

    • @JamesJamersonIsAGod
      @JamesJamersonIsAGod 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean she was actively forging documents and stealing ID numbers as an insider… not sure how deep of a verification the charities are going to be able to do to avoid something like that.

    • @charleshill1906
      @charleshill1906 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JamesJamersonIsAGod It's literally just running the ID number against the system to get a background check. The same as if you gave your SSN. The government knows when your number is being used in multiple states to draw benefits and it will tell whoever is running the check that the number in question belongs to "so-and-so."
      For example: Your SSN is unique to you. If someone uses it in another state, any state document will have that record of it being used. A thorough background check on someone using that SSN will show that it was used in another state and for what purpose (typically a bank account or government services). All the charity has to do is call up the contact information and check the addresses that are listed on the documentation against one another to find the fraud. This isn't hard shit to do.
