- What? I forgot to do writing samples? Yes. Mostly just ran out of time :-)
This is Day 13 of the 2022 Diamine Inkvent Calendar! As usual, I'll be looking at the day's tiny bottle of fountain pen ink, doing an ink swatch on a few different fountain pen friendly papers, comparing it with similar colors, and this time I'll show you my attempt at a painting with this ink.
Some of the Music in this video is from Hooksounds.com. If you're looking for this type of music for your videos, check them out with my link to support my channel: www.hooksounds...
I like it!
I liked this one. Beautiful for night's sky paintings.
Agreed :-)
I ope my day’s inkvent ink and then watch your video of the day before’s. Just love these videos. And thank you for being so Christmassy 😊🎄⛄️
Thanks Sheila! Doing these videos really helps me get into the Christmas spirit 🙂
Love your videos!
As I work through the Inkvent calendar, it's great to compare my experiences of each ink with yours.
I love that you're going into greater detail, and trying it on other paper types that I don't own.
This is my third year enjoying the Inkvent calendar, and it seems to just get better and better with each passing year.
Very nice ink (love blues too and anything to do with the night sky…) your painting is fabulous! And absolutely reminds me of those dark desert areas where those millions of stars can shine! 👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks! Probably would have been a little less psychedelic if I had done it with a plain glittery ink, but the results were pretty fun.
What amazing photos, and beautifully represented in your painting by this ink
Very nice painting.
Thanks 🙂
I love your high quality videos 🎉 also awesome awesome comparison to other inks, really gives perspective on what to expect
Thanks! Glad you're finding them helpful :-)
I love this ink.
Hey Marsha :-) It's a beauty, isn't it?
@@thewetpen Yes it is. 💙
Bonus: You showed a swatch of '2 Minutes to Midnight Blue'. I love that one too, and I don't see much about it.
Oooohhh...interesting....its sparkly in different light!! They should call them sparkle inks...I just don't understand the chameleon name. But beautiful color!! Now I wonder what they look like under blacklight.
Yeah... REALLY sparkly. Probably more than the video shows. But still pretty subtle color changes.
Oooohh ooooh wow. The lighting change was fun.
It was more dramatic than I expected, really :-) Still not a whole lot of color shift, though.
Beautiful painting!
Wow! I think this is the first time I've been able to see the color shifting on these chameleon inks. Thanks for this, I'll have to play around with these inks in different lighting.
The trick for me is to use a small light source, and just a single one... but I'm continuing to experiment.
I loved this ink. I have a weak spot for pretty and interesting blues (and shimmer) so I will definitely be getting a full bottle of this one. I also loved Spiced Apple Memory Lane and want a bottle of those lol. Doing Inkvent has been so much fun and I’ve linked a bunch of the inks, but so far my favorites have all been shimmer lol, we shall see what the next half has in store for us!
I have not really developed a soft spot for glittery inks yet, so I've been enjoying this calendar but don't have too many inks added to my list yet... maybe two :-)
@@thewetpen I really wanted to love Spruce, but the scent gave me a headache dispute how pretty the ink itself was.
I have never been to Arches National Park, but I have a ton of photos and some very similar to your pics. GREAT PAINTING, too😊☺️. Thank you for your daily videos, inspired me last year to get my own Inkvent this year and I was excited to see what you had to say about the chameleon inks as I saw your note on the other. 😁
Thanks! It sounds as though I still don't have the full story on these chameleon inks... apparently some sort of movement is necessary. Getting there.
I have diffuse light in my house too, even in the garage, so I would not have seen that glittery gold (it seemed gold on my screen) that showed up under that other light and I would never have thought to shine an LED flashlight or something like that on it 😉😉😊 I will be interested to hear what else you find out. These inks are what got me back into fountain pens again. I used them almost exclusively in the late 80s and early to mid 90s but the care needed with them and small children don't mix so I put them away. Now that I have discovered this ink and dip pens - oh my! I could spend a small fortune! 😂😂
Your photos are amazing. I still dont get these chameleon inks either. Marketing must be at it again. Loved seeing the painting.
The painting & photos are beautiful! Very cool starry night sky effect. This ink reminds me of Diamine's Happy Holidays, one of the inks they had in their very first Inkvent I believe...2019?) So beautiful, I picked up a bottle of it which I've barely used. These highly saturated shimmer inks can be tricky. I'd love to be able to create beautiful art like you did. For regular writing though, I'm like a 4-year-old - they end up everywhere - even on my dogs! 🤦🏻♀️ I wish I were exaggerating...😳
Ha! Yeah, that's exactly why I don't do any painting live on camera. I don't have much space in my apartment, so trying to set up a camera over my desk would just be a recipe for disaster... ink all over the floor and everything else.
@@thewetpen Oh I get it! Besides, your videos are already pretty sophisticated and awesome just as they are so I think you're good!😁🤘🏻
“I like pretty much any blue ink.” Me too brother, me too. 😂. Beautiful painting and photos. I do like Upon a Star.
Thanks :-) I have an entire Col O Ring full of blue inks... probably more than necessary ;-)
I'm a sucker for a dark blue ink, and this one looks very interesting indeed. Would have loved to see a writing sample, but I'm sure I can find one online. Or I'll just have to take a chance and buy it. 😁
Yeah... my video was already halfway uploaded when I realized that I had forgotten to tack the writing samples (that I had forgotten to do) onto the end this time. I should have started working on these a month ago :-)
@@thewetpen It's amazing .. videos that you make in a hurry are still 1000x better than most other fountain pen ink videos out there, Matthew. 😉
Thank you for the great series! Can’t wait for the next video. I swatched this one on watercolor paper (as I use my inks in painting) but the red sheen and beautiful glitter barely showed up. So was a bit disappointed there as I had high hopes for this one. Will just have to keep giving it a go on other papers
I always have thought that it makes the most sense to swatch on the papers that you'll actually be using :-) Good luck with the next ones!
No colour shift at all been really dissapointed with all the chameleon inks and the sheen ones
@@sueallen952 have to agree with you. Sadly the colour shifts just don’t show up on the papers I use for my art
Great review on the Diamine Inkvent Calendar... Nice and short... Right to the point :) What's that beautiful fountain pen on the left of your swatching papers? A Ranga?
Actually, that's a PenBBS 323 in their Galaxy acrylic. Absolutely one of my favorite pens... not only is the acrylic beautiful, the shape is really comfortable in the hand.
Thanks and Happy Holiday 🌲
I think there is still some confusion about the glitter. It only shows the real effects when you move. I posted a story to demonstrate. Goes from bright pink to teal.
OK, as soon as I get a little time, I'm going to finally look up your post.
@@thewetpen I will say it's really hard to film. Hard to keep everything in focus and get decent lighting while moving.
:( My Calendar had a mix-up. My ink in door 13 was the same as in door 3. So 2 bottles of Solar Storm. Unfortunately because I really do like day 13's ink.
Oh no! I'm sorry. T've heard about this sort of thing happening a few times, now, and last year someone was just missing a bottle completely... but he wrote to Diamine and they sent the missing bottle. I bet they would for you, too :-)
@@thewetpen OH I'll have to try doing this! Thank you very much for the advice, friend.
My swatches actually have an even more dramatic colour shift! When looking at the shimmer from top-down, it looks bright greenish, then when looking at it from the side it shifts to a lilac purple colour.
I've just read that I'm still doing this wrong. Sounds like more movement is necessary. Getting there :-)
Yeah, I still don't really get the "Chameleon" name. The effects are so subtle and varied that creating a category for them feels pointless. I don't get why they all have to be glitter inks too. When I'm thinking of possible candidates for "Chameleon" inks, I think of inks with significant color changes like Platinum Citrus Black or most inks from the Sailor Yurameku line, which can look remarkably different depending on the paper.
Agreed. Maybe they'll get some feedback and switch things up next year.
Unfortunately, having to use a specific lighting to show the glitter, is not exactly what I would call Chameleon. I think Day 7 is a better example of the effect.
