My mother was a highschool guidance counselor for most of her career, and some of the stuff she needed to go through with students was unimaginable. If you want you could also do a cross comparison between the Scooby series that had dark undertones and Shows that had crossover with Scooby that had mature elements that did it better then what Velma did. There was an episode on Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law and even Supernatural that did a crossover that I seen respected the Source material better then Velma.

Why does Velma hate therapists? Idk but I had a roommate who told me that she has seen multiple psychiatrists, and they never called her back. I didn't know at the time but later on when I learned about personality disorders, she was a textbook case. It's possible that Velma/Mindy feels rejected by many therapists who have not been able to help her. I know this is very generalized, but personality disorders, and/or sociopaths and narcissists, have no insight into their own behaviour. It would also explain why she was voted "most revenge-y" in the yearbook.

This reminds me of Allen Gregory albeit very loosely. The main character was too much of a jerk to put up with and it had a cynical tone with some crass off humor. Although in that show Allen was narcissistic on purpose and I think even that managed to make me laugh more times than this. I had a buddy with a car that broke down in so many ways simultaneously, that we couldn't figure out what happened. I guessed broken motor mounts, he felt the transmission slipping etc... If you want you could also do a cross comparison between the Scooby series that had dark undertones and Shows that had crossover with Scooby that had mature elements that did it better then what Velma did. There was an episode on Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law and even Supernatural that did a crossover that I seen respected the Source material better then Velma.

Why does Velma hate therapists? Idk but I had a roommate who told me that she has seen multiple psychiatrists, and they never called her back. I didn't know at the time but later on when I learned about personality disorders, she was a textbook case. It's possible that Velma/Mindy feels rejected by many therapists who have not been able to help her. I know this is very generalized, but personality disorders, and/or sociopaths and narcissists, have no insight into their own behaviour.
It would also explain why she was voted "most revenge-y" in the yearbook.
This guy calls us a bitch. We love it. He's light hearted, joking even. He has enough love to at least attempt to search for a reason to like Mindy Kaling's show... Yet, dispite his best efforts to stretch the benefit of a doubt... He comes out empty handed.

This reminds me of Allen Gregory albeit very loosely. The main character was too much of a jerk to put up with and it had a cynical tone with some crass off humor. Although in that show Allen was narcissistic on purpose and I think even that managed to make me laugh more times than this.
All of the humor in this is just explained out like the most cliche and lazy stand up routine you've ever seen.
