Prestwich and Whitefield have never been in the city of Manchester boundary. They're independent towns that come under the metropolitan borough of Bury. Whitefield itself borders the town of Bury.

The postcodes for Whitefield and Prestwich are both Manchester postcodes, same as Salford. Bury has a Bolton postcode.
