  • An INTERVIEW with the driver of this beautifully presented 1959 VAUXHALL CRESTA Classic Car. He has been an enthusiast for many years and with some humour informed us that he’d like to locate a specially built Vauxhall Hearse for his own funeral. He was also keen to sing the praises of Steve Godden who had done much of the superb and detailed work on the vehicle. It was filmed at the Classic Car Show in Ashford, Middlesex on September 4th 2022.

Great to see such a beautiful Cresta. That is interesting they were designed by Harley Earl and his team ( they bear all the hallmarks of his style). I started work for a Vauxhall dealesrship in New Zealand in 1966. My fist car was a 1960 PASY Velox, followed by a 1962 PASX Velox, PA Crestas were rare here. To me the PA's were the most beautiful and stylish of all the Vauxhalls

I always thought the extra chrome on the Cresta cf the Velox was a bit gratuitous. That is plunked on wherever there is a spare space. That said my dad had wall-to-wall Vauxhalls for years.

Back in the day when you learned something useful from teachers, like what a cool car was. 🙂

That was when teachers wore tweed jackets with elbow patches
      and smoked a pipe .
( That was just the women ! )

As an aside, and a bit of trivia, a Vauxhall Cresta won the inaugural Armstong 500 mile race in 1960 at the Phillip Island circuit. This race later went on to become the Bathhurst 1000.

Had a 1958 PA Cresta in 1962 - paid £365 for it a fair amount of cash in those days. Two tone blue. Fantastic performance, up to 30mpg and the most comfortable ride. Loved the column gear shift and bench seat - if your girlfriend was slim enough you could change gear with your arm around her! Rear wings finally rusted away and it went to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Beautiful, one of my Rockabilly friends had one back in the early eighties. Unfortunately they suffered from rust rather badly so I guess not many are left.

Stunning 3 window, and knowledgeable owner. I have a 62 PA in Venetian Red and Polar White, 13,500 miles from new. I am the second owner.

Lucky you Andrew - recall a ' 59 9,500 mile PA Velox at a private garage collection sale in the mid 90s and it made a record price at the time at I think around £13,000 which I recall made the auctioneer smile !.

17/12 22 My ol' Dad worked at Vauxhall. One evening he bought home some plain printed black & white drawings of the PA Crestas. Employees were given them to take home to ask us then children to colour them in with any colours we wanted to. After a few days they were then returned where they were to be forwarded onto the finishing department. It was fun coloring in with any random colours ! Often wonder if they were used to decide on colour options offered.

Served my time on these cars at a Vauxhall main dealers, rear quarters and top panels were prone to rot welded many in new panels, later versions had a splashguard under the quarter panel to try and prevent early rusting. Still they were a beautifull car.

Wonderful car, so surprised it has survived I had a 1958 PA Cresta but even with much pampering and polishing it just rusted away before my eyes. Pity the owner didn’t know the gears, towards you and up is reverse, 1st is towards you and down, 2nd away and up, top away and down. Surprised about the overdrive as this wasn’t a available as a Vauxhall option on this model.

Always been my dream car. I should have bought one instead of the Routemaster that I bought (ex LT bus driver). Nightmare trying to find a place to keep that and had to sell it.

Beautiful car, my best friend's dad had an identical ' 58 PA Cresta in dark grey over pale grey with red/black leather seats with the translucent ' mascot '- VJJ 118 .Without question , one of the most handsome post-war British cars of all time and although survival rate is poor , it was not surprising to witness the stratospheric rise in prices in recent years as the demand vastly exceeds supply and still very capable for modern use after 65 odd years .

I never understood why Vauxhall took the indicators out of the tailfins in the later models.

Had one on loan from the factory for a potential police patrol car back in the 60s, it lasted about 6 hrs. Not up to it. Pootling around as a family motor no doubt it would survive.

🤣I noticed that! Reverse was usually towards you and up with the ol 3 speed column change cars. Low gear was there with 4 speed column change cars like Austin's, Morris's, & Hillman's from 1960 (in New Zealand) and the likes.
