That was amazing! You can see how much the original cast members love the songs and the music, even though it's been 50 years. When the music starts they can't help but clap along with it. That kind of infectious joy is why I love music and theatre so much; I hope I can be like them when I'm old.
I was in the original on Broadway and this was a reunion and a fundraiser for Equity Fights AIDS! We were put up In a hotel and I roomed with Reri Grist! What a voice. She san “There’s a Place for us… and left the world with hope!!! I was ‘Swing girl”. That meant I had both a Jet and a Shark costume and essentially understudied all female dancers in the show! I was invited to attend the Spielberg opening in Hollywood! 2 other original cast came too! Grover Dale and Carol Lawrence! They threw spotlights on us and introduced us! NO! I did not like Spielberg’s version. He ripped off all the original choreography with no acknowledgement to Jerry Robins or Peter Genero’s choreography! And changed the script a lot.
I’m just drying my eyes, after watching this video crying out of joy, to see the original Broadway cast of West Side Story. With all due respect to all of the cast, I cried harder when my Broadway idol diva, Miss Rivera dancing as Anita, like the queen she is! I want to thank every single person in and created the original production of WSS, for introducing this brilliant stage masterpiece to the whole world, and continue to watch and enjoy this show on stage or the 2 movies. RIP Larry Kert 😪🙏

Real Artist , The only Musical Movie that made a Mark , unbeatable cast , Dancers and singers, I still remember my role as Bernardo , dancing Classically.
This brought a tear to my eyes ! -----The reverence & respect shown to the original members, was overwhelming. And for such a great cause. I lost my brother to HIV-AIDS on my 40th B-Day, 9/24/86, & am dedicated to supporting AIDS research in any way I can. ----------What a wonderful cause !! -----------------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o

And Tony Mordente passed this year as well, who was Chita’s ex-husband, who was in the original Broadway production and the fabulous 1961 movie.
