- From Journal of the Outdoor Life By National Tuberculosis Association February 1914:
The plot of this year's picture, "The Temple of Moloch," is laid in a small village, the chief industries of which are some potteries, owned by Harrison Pratt. He also owns a group of dilapidated tenements, in which most of his employees live. Dr. Jordan, health officer of the village, is struck with the prevalence of tuberculosis, and on investigation finds that the unsanitary working conditions in the Pratt potteries, together with the unhealthy state of the tenement homes of the workmen, have most to do with the spread of the disease. He calls the matter to the attention of Pratt, who rebuffs him and tells him it is no use to try to do anything in the matter.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jordan has fallen in love with Eloise, the daughter of Harrison Pratt, and she has become interested in his work, particularly that at the preventorium for children from tuberculous families. Three times Jordan appeals to Pratt, and each time he is rebuffed. Finally, in despair between his love for Eloise and his duty, he exposes the conditions he has discovered through articles in the newspapers, in which he calls the Pratt potteries and tenements a modern "Temple of Moloch," in that they feed young children to the God of Greed. When Eloise, who is ignorant of conditions in the factory, sees the paper she immediately resents what she considers an insult to her father, and returns her engagement ring to Dr. Jordan.
A week later Pratt's daughter and son are found to have tuberculosis. When Eric Swanson, a former employee of Pratt's, who had been discharged because he had contracted "potter's rot" in the mills and was no longer able to work, hears of it, he exults over the calamity, which he views as a sort of personal vengeance. He musters all of his strength and steals away to the Pratt home, where Eloise and her brother are taking the cure for tuberculosis on the porch, and there denounces Pratt, gloating over him and telling him that his son and daughter were originally infected as young children by Cora Swanson, when she served as nurse-girl for the Pratts several years ago. So struck is Pratt by this denunciation and the graphic story of Swan- son, which is affirmed by Dr. Jordan, that he decides to clean up conditions in his potteries and tenements at once.
The story ends with a Christmas scene, in which the engagement ring is returned to the hand of Eloise. and Dr. Jordan receives as a present a liberal check for the employment of visiting nurses, the establishment of open air schools and other anti-tuberculosis agencies in the town.

Sanitation and hygiene is what eradicated disease. Environmental conditions play a big part in well being. Schools today have no windows, little ventilation and same with office and work places. You hardly see anyone open their windows in the home nowadays. The new buses and trains in my area have no windows to open like they use to and I remember the old houses had vents in every room.
Yes, but there is now tighter building envelopes and the addition of mechanical & fabric filtration with certain amount of air changes per hour. What will make that difference even greater is if these buildings/homes/structures have more serious consideration for their maintenance.

It wasn't unusual for people to be so cold the would stuff up every crack that let a draught into their one room hovels, then they would literally die of suffocation in their sleep. Sometimes a whole family would be found huddles together for warmth in one double bed, suffocated in their sleep. That wasn't long ago in the great scheme of things.

Moloch is most frequently referred to in Leviticus. Here is a passage from Leviticus 18:21, condemning child sacrifice, “Do not allow any of your children to be offered to Molech.”

He died for the sins of us all because he is God himself, more specifically he is The Word (Logos in Greek) become flesh. The reason animal sacrifices were effective is because they were received from God, and thus were returned to God. Only something God provides us can remove our sins (e.g. the first animals slain in the Garden of Eden were sacrificed by God for the sin of Adam and Eve, literally covering up their iniquity with the animals' pelts - man's attempt to provide his own clothing, made from fig leaves, was spiritually ineffective)
What greater gift, and thus what greater sacrifice is there than God's only begotten Son?

A lot of people in comments seem to think he's the same as Yahweh. The name YHWH given to Moses, "I Am that I Am", the eternal Alpha-Omega, is 10-5-6-5 in numeric Hebrew, the same as the base pair bridge intervals of our DNA, every living cell, our blood: the tree of life in the body temple. Without getting into fallen angels ("old gods/star people"), nephilim demigods and how sacrifice became a worldwide constant, epigenetics can be a generational curse “...visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.” - Numbers 14:18. People were stuck on it to appease "the gods" even after the Deluge, some culturally while others in secret societies. Tradition and worldviews are hard to break.
God redirected and tested Abraham with his own son Isaac while only animals were accepted as a form of sin atonement afterward. He wasn't bloodthirsty. It's complicated. Jesus was the final sacrifice as the Lamb of God, the blood of the Passover Lamb being the final payment for all our sins. No more sacrifices, except your old life to be born again in Christ (1 John 2:15-16). Christians are about self-sacrifice, the key here. No more bloodshed.
But in epigenetic terms, this is why God chose the Israelites to take out every man, woman and child of disgusting cultures as happened in another way to Sodom and Gomorrah. The story of Lot is a cringey part of the Bible (Genesis 19), but it shows why God dealt with these types of cultures, serial apists and 'morderers', even of children, and that's only part of it. That's also why He didn't want them mingling in a family way. Some scripture for thought:
Genesis 4:10 - “And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.”
If you take the above about DNA and epigenetics then match it with all instances of the word "blood" it will make more sense.
Exodus 20:13 - "Thou shalt not kill."
'Unaliving' someone isn't just violating another's personal rights. It is the same as doing it to God in that sense.
Ephesians 6:12 - "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."
There's a whole spiritual element coupled with the material, science-based side of things, even harder to understand.
2 Peter 3:7-9 - "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
