The original Halo is ethereal and alien, albeit in a way that is not so much disconcerting as it is wonderous and strange. Old Bungie had this atmosphere down pat, I think, oweing to their lineage with Marathon and what they accomplished there in aesthetics and writing. I can't think of a game property that better embodied the early 2000s and offered some glimpse into science fiction futurescape that we never got to experience. Something slumbers in the halls of Halo's level design, aesthetics, and soundscape that goes beyond mere nostalgia.
