  • Jameos del Agua or Caves as Art
The 7-kilometer-long underground labyrinth begins with the Jameos del Agua cave, including another well-known underground area, Cueva de los Verdes. The entire complex was created by a volcanic eruption several thousand years ago. However, it is truly exceptional thanks to César Manrique, who is responsible for almost everything interesting in Lanzarote.
The Jameos del Agua cave is accessible from the road connecting the capital city of Arrecife with the north of the island. On one side, the unbridled Atlantic roars here, on the other, the landscape rises lazily up to the extinct volcano Monte Corona (609 m). The Valley of a Thousand Palms, the fishing village of Arrieta and the Guinate Tropical Park are all within easy reach.
A unique area on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean
César Manrique transformed Jameos del Agua into a unique place worthy of attention. There are two excellent restaurants, an artificial pool with azure water and palm trees, a pond with rare white crabs and a concert hall with unprecedented acoustics.
The cave also includes a photographic museum of the fauna and flora of the Canary Islands and a cafe. All this to the sounds of wonderful soothing music.
