    I’m a housekeeper and they placed me in labor and deliver. I’ve been there for a year now. I got hired as an OR tech and I’m excited.
    Because I have helped out, they explained to me about a lot of things and I’m grateful to get started as an OR tech because I know all the nurses there that is my family at Memorial Hermann

    Currently in the pre-nursing program for rn thinking about switching to surge tech. Having trouble with Chem already on my 3rd try so Ik it’s gonna be practically impossible to get into the program now and I’ve been feeling like a major failure because of it.
    Will probably take the sterile tech certificate class this fall to get certified since it is practically the same as a surge tech just not as much responsibility I guess👀 that way by the time I start the actual classes for the surge program I have the “experience” from the sterile classes and can already be certified in the area and hopefully get a job for sterile to get my foot in the door.
    And it made me happy to see u could be a tech in labor and delivery considering labor and deliver and Nicu were my fields of interest for nursing. And then maybe by working in the field as a tech I can really see if nursing is still in range of wanting to go back to retry.
    Now this may be a dumb question but could I be able to do traveling with this profession as well? And so sorry for this long comment😂 I needed a quick vent out

    I’m new to the field and I’m discovering labor n delivery tech jobs on here but there’s none listed in dfw..curious what area are you in?

    • @user-xz6bp9eq9p
      @user-xz6bp9eq9p ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You probably have to be a CST to work in l&d as a tech in the DFW area. A lot of places do not hire PCTs for L&D and instead hire CSTs who can do the same job as a PCT but also scrub for c-sections. You may try looking into mother/baby jobs if you’d also find that interesting. A lot of places will not hire PCTs for L&D but will for postpartum. For post partum, PCTs typically do a lot more baby stuff too, like baths, hearing screens, plus stocking. It’s a fun job.

    How were you able to get into this specific unit? I’m a CNA and I work in home health but I’m interested in the hospital setting and this is the unit that I want to work in

    • @makiyabanks
      @makiyabanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      since I have previous hospital experience I think it was a stand out for them. Youbwould have to check the job description and see if they require previous hospital experience but I would try working at a hospital starting out as a regular tech and maybe transition to maternity once you got some experience with it
